Wilson has a 109 qb rating, leads the 4th ranked offense, and plays with the 6th worst defense. Wilson is the only reason that team is a playoff team. Not exactly apples to apples. In 2011, Sanchez had 4 4th quarter comebacks. In 2015, Bortles had 4 game winning drives. Great defenses were the main reason why. I’m pretty sure Allen is better than them but again, the stat can be really misleading. Some of these games could have been over well before the 4th with better offensive production (not all on Allen obviously). but plenty of big moments coming up and hopefully he can become a Wilson type qb in the future. But if we had Wilson, we might be the afc favorites.

Todd McShay Mock Draft 1.0 - Video

McShay killed Jevan Snead. He’s the worst. -
Not trying to defend him but he did say it was his best game. I think we get a little emotional defending our players (which is reasonable). I readily admit Allen scared me as a prospect. I’m still not completely sold but I do think he has shown he can be at worst an average starting qb in this league. But if you watch the top guys, it does look a little different. But the great news is we are beating who we should beat and made the playoffs without a miracle. Allen will have plenty of chances to prove himself (though he will be kept in check from the coaches to a certain extent). I think we have taken advantage of a pretty weak schedule but we won the games we should have won. Now, this will be really fun to see where we really match up. I can’t remember being this truly excited as a Bills fan in a long time.

2017 revisited...McDermott or ALynn for HC??

Allen was given more of a chance to succeed than EJ!!! ? Sammy without injuries would have. He played in a high school offense here and was really good. He broke his foot and rushed back. -
I swear before the season, everyone talked about how overrated the pro bowl is. Tre White is a lock. I think Hyde will be an alternate. I don’t think people know Phillips enough and Edmunds might get an alternate but he should be a lock for years to come. and Trent Murphy will be an alternate behind Chris Kelsey.

I guess the counter is that you shouldn’t need a 4th quarter comeback to beat Duck with 3 ints (last one was desperation). The Opener against the Jets is a blowout in the first half if not for the defense. We are 22nd in points and yards. again, we are 10-4 and that is awesome so I don’t want to nit pick. But there is a lot of room for improvement. This defense is the MVP and is allowing Allen to grow into the role. It’s a good situation.

2017 revisited...McDermott or ALynn for HC??

Yeah, I don’t know the point of this. The Chargers sucked before Lynn. Are we going to bump this if the Chargers are better next year? McDermott gets this team to play hard every week and it is a very sound team that doesn’t beat itself. I also think Lynn is a good coach who got the Chargers curse this year with really bad injuries and holdouts. This is crazy but both guys could be good coaches. Yet if Reid wins a SB, he is a HOF coach. It’s amazing what win does for a resume and the KC defense hasn’t been completely awful the last few weeks. They are playing pretty well (their running game sucks though). -
1) the Kelly comparison is completely invalid because it’s a completely different nfl. This era is steroids to qb stats. 2) as much as I would love to see if Allen can carry this team, there is no way that is happening this year. We have won 10 games with Allen as a game manager. No way they are going to change things now. And I have a feeling that is from the head coach.
-
I think where we are at is we have a young qb who plays with a really good defense who has become a solid game manager. He has big play ability, especially with his running right now. Allen isn’t being asked to win games but rather not lose them. And if we keep the game close, he has shown ability to led late drives to win them, which is big. i think where some people have questions is if he is truly a franchise guy who is young and playing to his team’s strengths (ala Brady, Big Ben, Wilson) and grow with more experience. And The other side are the Bortles, Mitch T, and Sanchez (he’s better than Sanchez). We probably won’t have an answer this year because I think the team is very comfortable with the current formula. As someone who has certainly had questions about Allen, I’m just going to enjoy the ride and hope for the best.

Still want to see Allen win a game where the defense isn’t able to keep the opponent under 20 points, but while it wasn’t pretty at times, he made big plays at clutch times. I think if the offense was more consistent we won’t need the comebacks in the first place but he has shown a knack for it so I tip my hat to him.

PTI- Tony admits he was wrong about Coach McDermott
C.Biscuit97 replied to foreboding's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow. This is a hot take. Imo, it is the best sports show on tv. and our team has finished with a negative point differential the first 2 seasons under McDermott. I wonder if he was a special type of coach or just a Good DC. We do have some flaws and play a bit too conservative for my tastes. But McD also has this team playing hard and they don’t beat themselves. But it’s ok for someone to change their mind with more evidence. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? -
Dear lord, some of you are so sensitive. There were plenty of positive comments they said about us.

Houston would be a juicy matchup for us in 1st round...

I don’t get the point of this. Obviously, it’s a message board but why. Houston is inconsistent but to say they aren’t good is dumb. They just took down one of the hottest teams in the nfl and beat KC and NE on the road. They have a top 10 qb and arguably the best receiver in the nfl. White can hopefully take out Hopkins but then they have 2 solid receivers as well. Their d isn’t scary but if the Texans score 21 points, how many games have won like that? I do agree with this. There aren’t many qbs I fear less than Tannehill. -
Yup. That some people will never admit that Allen struggles with accuracy. I’ll step out of the thread because I dare have a critical point on Allen.
-
And I believe a big part of the problem with drops is Allen with sometimes lack of touch. It also shows up on YAC with balls the receivers can’t catch in stride. Brady has a rag arm now but he puts the ball where guys can catch and run. It’s a problem with guys with big arms. Hard to just turn it down. Losman had a missile but couldn’t calm it down enough. I think Allen is better but he’s more of the problem with drops than you are willing to say.
-
So you don’t think Mahomes is a better, more accurate passer than Allen? It’s not a confidence that both of those players had the best seasons of their careers with Mahomes. The problem with some fans and I believe the coaching staff is they try to make Allen into something he’s not. He is never going to be a Brady pinpoint passer. But he can still be really successful if you tailor the offense to him like Baltimore does with Jackson. Obviously, there’s risk but imo our offense should look more like Baltimore than prime NE.
-
This is why some fans underestimate. Some qbs throw more catchable balls. I always feel drops is a stat that people want to lean on for Allen. He has never been a particularly accurate since high school. So either he consistently plays with terrible brick hand wrs or he doesn’t throw the most catchable balls. I bet there are plenty of rocket armed qbs who have a lot of drops. The difference between those guys and say Mahomes is Mahomes has excellent touch on his balls (sounds dirty). Seems like you’re passing the blame from Allen. I remember numerous crossing patterns where the ball is behind the receiver that they manage to get their hands on (but for any receiver going reaching behind while going in the opposite direction is extremely hard) that might count as a drop. allen has improved in the underneath passing area but he still isn’t consistently good enough.

If you count Tyrod getting benched for Peterman, that says more about McDemrott being completely clueless on offensive football. It is one of the worst decisions in the history of Bills football. So mind blowing dumb and I was far from a Tyrod fan. and others have said, it should be total tds, total turnovers, and total yards. I think why they do separate them is because running tds can be fluky.
