When are week 18 game times going to be set?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'd say doubtful they'd do that. Doesn't seem like there's as many playoff deciding games this year as in the past. Most teams could be already decided by the tend of this weekend excluding Jax-Tenn. Mainly teams will be playing for seeding only week 18 -
When are week 18 game times going to be set?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Stadium Wall
From what I recall the week 18 schedule is usually announced late during the Sunday night game, maybe around 11:00 PM. Likely NBC wants to be able to promo the game they will be showing before signing off, but everything else is also announced with it. This is kind of a unique situation as don't recall in past years a Monday night game having such importance on seedings. Who wins Monday night could change the seeding a bit, but but not like any single one of those games will be a play in game. Worst I could see happening is they decide to schedule the Bills Chiefs, Bengals games all for 4:25 on Sunday, but more likely the Bills will be at 1:00 on Sunday IMO. Found a link form last year that confirms my recollection, was announced late during Sunday night game on Jan 2nd of week 17 schedule and a 2nd link stating will be announced this Sunday night. Unless the Bills Bengals game is such a game changer, would imagine this will hold true. https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-announces-week-18-saturday-games-sunday-nighter https://www.inquirer.com/eagles/nfl-week-18-schedule-predictions-odds-eagles-giants-playoff-picture-20221230.html -
Mitch Morse Clears Concussion Protocol
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to babulator's topic in The Stadium Wall
Bills lead the league in rushing yard per attempt at 5.3 yards but are 14th in rush attempts. That is partially deceiving as much of that is off long gains by Allen. But also seems like the Bills either gain 10 yards on a run or are stopped for a loss so not sure rushing too often is a good idea. Overall when their passing game is clicking I do think that is more sustainable long term to move the chains when too many rushing attempts for no gain. That was where Moss was supposed to help as a player who'd move the chains 3 to 4 yards most times he touches the ball or on a bad attempt 2 yards or so. With a player like that you could often be looking at 3rd and 5 which helps but often when the Bills would try to run, they'd then have 3rd and 8 or 9 instead. PS One thing I thought is bad the way the NFL counts rushing yards for QB's. Barring designated runs by the QB, If they are caught behind the line due to scrambling it counts as a sack, but once they cross the line it's positive yards. So basically anytime Allen scrambles he's going to get credited for positive yards or it's a sack, he can't lose. -
Mitch Morse Clears Concussion Protocol

Yes, but even the week prior he played against Miami and they ran the ball well that game too. -
Just think of Saturday.... as in Jeff Colts fired their coach, won the next game. Many times when a team fired their head coach, they play better, particularly the first game or so, Carolina has been playing better of late. Could be very true in Denver as from everything that's been written, Hackett was a real mess. Have to say, read a couple articles about Hackett being fired, but don't recall reading at all who is interim head coach??

And with VanRoten on the field too? Hard top imagine he's an improvement, but the numbers don't lie -
These teams you mention with two top WR's for the most part drafted at least one of them and then may traded for the second. Bills have already done that with Diggs so as others have said time to draft and develop the 2nd one. Most of those teams too Miami and Bengals for certain, will be interesting to see what they do when those rookie contracts end, will they be able to sign them all? Maybe Miami can as they don't also have the big $$ QB at least not yet and doubt Tua will be become one of them either.

All your juicy Odell Beckham gossip

Agree, but also think OBJ was hoping to pick up some pocket change for this season. But that doesn't appear to be working out for him. He could always try a Go Fund Me page! -

From what I read if a team signs him they'd either have to immediately place him on the 53 man roster, but then kind of have a wasted roster spot till he's actually ready, or place him on IR so he can ramp up to speed. But if place on IR he has to stay there for 4 weeks. Assuming the Bills signed him tomorrow and then get the #1, he'd be eligible to some back for the SB, no earlier. If signed after this week, he's out for the first three playoff games. Think at this point OBJ is done for the year! -
But didn't heat least come out of the game in that one?
-
Agree you have to protect him, but there has to also be actual roster spots for the player you draft. I've seen threads stating the Bills should draft 5 lineman. If they do, come September, they are either cutting two or three or having all the backups be rookies, both of which would be very poor ideas. You have likely one opening at guard, two if Morse were to retire. If that were to happen, I'd fill one spot with a good FA vet signing and one with a rookie and also draft one more rookie as a backup and to potentially start in 2024. I'd draft them fairly high, either 2 and 3 or 2 and 4 so are getting someone who should become a solid player. The other three spots Bates, Brown, and Dawkins likely will be the same in 2023, and even if you want to make a change, replacing any of them with a rookie, plus a rookie in another spot isn't likely going to make the line better in the near future. That may be the best answer for 2025, but not in the near term which can't be over looked either.

Recall with about a minute left in the Bills Giants SB, Kelly took a shot, bad enough he had to call a TO. Likely today he'd have been pulled from the game. Also thought without that hit Bills may have won the game as would have one more TO left at end, likely could have gained a fair amount more yards and maybe kick would have been good. Wonder if they could install accelerators in players helmets. Determine some type of value, if reading exceeds value, tape is reviewed and if player actually hit head on play, he's pulled at a minimum for evaluation and maybe above some value or if second time concussed he's out of game??

Tyler Bass is the Bills' best pick of the 2020 draft
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
They may make the qualifying offer, but not match. With White plus two rookies Elam and Benford that look real good, Jackson becomes more a luxury for a team that doesn't have much money. True only been 3 years for Jackson, but only 1 for the other two and in one season have looked almost as good, sometimes even better than Jackson. Jackson has just been a bit too erratic at times it seems. When talent level is close, teams tend to go with the cheaper option. He could back, but likely only if he finds he's not worth as much as he may think he is and accepts a team friendly deal from Bills. But this is likely Jackson's best chance at getting a big contract, so likely he gets it elsewhere. I kind of see him in similar mode to Lawson and Phillips, contract ran out, gets big deal elsewhere, in 2 years back to Buffalo. -
Motor and Cook NFL Best RB tandem?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to RenoNVBillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
They've played well, but I don't feel Singletary is the perfect complement to Cook as somewhat similar. Even Hines is somewhat the same. I'd rather see them get a more power bruising type back, like Moss!! LOL Do think that type of player would be better match with Cook IMO -
I'll bet if you looked at the top 6 teams in the league you'd find a similar thing. different positions, but either young guys who didn't improve as much as hoped for or aging vets at some positions I like your draft selections too. I think WR is bigger need than line as Bills are a passing team. As weak as the line has looked at times they really only have one starting spot open as they are not giving up on Brown who has only played 2 seasons and had no training camp or pre season due to recovering from injury. They may bring in some competition at tackle, but is his job to lose. If Morse retires, then could see them more likely bringing in a vet guard or center short term and draft center guard, but could see them moving Bates to center for 2023.

Do the numbers say it all ?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
True but the way I see it the Bills lost to Miami at the point in the season when they were playing best and the very next week Bengals beat them. Bills beat Miami at the point where they've lost 4 straight. And that Titans win and to a lesser degree the Jet game doesn't look all that good these days. If the Bills can revert to their early season offense, I'd feel much better about Monday. I just feel Bengals offense of late is looking more solid than Bills and have more weapons. Is that true over the past 6 or 7 games? -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not sure how you count, but two games were by three points, and two others 8 points which is a TD and 2 pt conversion away from a tie. The two games that they won by more were still close till close to the end so Bills games have been just as close IMO. Bengals beat Miami when they were playing at their best and Chiefs are 2 good wins by them, rest of their wins were against teams not playing that well. Then again could make the same argument about the Bills and who they've beaten and who they lost to. If the Bills offense was playing now like they were the first 5 or 6 weeks of season, I wouldn't be too worried, but right now Bengals offense seems to be clicking better than Bills at least from the eye ball test. -
Status of the AFCE going forward
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
If Miami does try to jump back into QB race in 2024, they likely will still be too good of a team in 2023 to have a good draft position in 24. Be shocked if they are drafting in top 15 less a trade and even with a trade, it would have to be like 2 or 3 #1 picks or maybe throw in Waddle or Phillips to get to say the top 2 or 3 in the draft. Unless they get real lucky and find someone who doesn't look that good and falls way down in the draft, they may still have trouble finding that guy. do agree think they will give Tua another year and try to figure out what else they can put around him. Without that 7th round draft pick, think the Bills will struggle mightily to improve next year! -
Is the QB position a roadblock to expansion?

Don't disagree with anything you say except it hasn't stopped them yet from expanding to the current 32. -
NFL Week # 16 - Bills at Bears - post game thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
Maybe except Bates didn't play last week and they ran well when VanRoten moved over to center. So could ask are they a better running team when Morse isn't playing center?? But most accounts feel Morse has been the best lineman all season?? -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall
So here's a crazy thought... maybe.... Are the Bills a better running team when VanRoten is playing? Played all game and ran the best they have all season. Last week played in the 4th quarter when ran real well too.
