Obviously we'll never know, but if Marrone and Schwarz had both stuck around, what are the odds the defense would have sustained the same level? IMO not that high as we didn't have many injuries in 2014. As was pointed out by many the D was great at rushing the passer, but other than that average to maybe a little above for the most part. So really doubt we would have had the same level of success as we didn't have a whole bunch of all pro players around on D, but did a great job of rushing the passer to make up for many other things. Everyone is ripping Rex and blaming him for everything that went wrong in 2015 as people were expecting big things. Granted his boasting helped fuel the fires big time!! But in reality as was pointed out elsewhere awhile back, the odds of the Bills doing well after losing your starting QB and HC were not good regardless of whom the coach had been. The Bills were also in a rather unique situation that you rarely see, how many teams have ever finished 8-8, on an upswing and now are hiring a new coach. Can anyone give me an example of when that's happened? The only time you ever see an 8-8 coach replaced is when they just had three or so prior 12-4 or so seasons and now getting worse. So now the coach get's fired and you bring in a new guy to rebuild. Here we're bringing in a new guy and expecting him to show immediate improvement with a QB who just retired too. The two things I will blame on Rex was all the boasting and yapping of the mouth, that didn't help things with the fans, but really can't see how it would have made any difference at all in the actual games played. The second mistake he made was not stating right from the beginning, we're running my D and if anyone isn't happy with that, let me know and we'll replace you. But again that's a tough sell on a supposedly improving team which again goes back to the uniqueness of the overall situation he and the team were in.

I'd be fine with the Hartline and McCown trade, but somehow doesn't sound all that even from Cleveland's side. As to the right side of the line, can't keep giving up on players after one season. Henderson played decent his rookie year, thought he even was rookie of the month in Sept or something. Last year I chalk the whole season up to his sickness. Granted it was only announced in late Nov, but I'd imagine he was having problems with weight lose fatigue back in September already as those things usually take months to determine the cause. Eventually it got to be too much for him to play through. Miller was a rookie started out decent, got nicked up and play dropped off by year end. But as often is the case with rookies, their bodies aren't yet use to a 16 game schedule, plus pre-season. So would also give him a year. If you want depth as a swing backup, I'm fine with that. TE we have many on the roster, would rather see what Jack junior can do after a full season under his belt, but wouldn't be against bringing in a guy like Vernon either.

Wow so Levitre who left before Whaley officially became GM is his fault but all the credit goes for signing Richie goes to Rex. After stating that you have zero credibility. There are many amazingly crazy things posted here but this is got to be one of the most ignorant things I've read. I'd ask who should be GM if not Whaley, but asking you that question is a complete waste based on your ability to reason.

Why and how is he leaving? He can easily be franchised next season. The only risk the Bill's have in not signing him now is if he does light it up this coming year, he'll be worth even more. But using your logic signing him now still wouldn't work out either for the Bill's as if he signed a deal now worth his level of play and then plays better this coming season, he'd need to have his deal re-done again to reflect the level he played at for one season. Supposedly Richie Incognito was low balled by the Bill's, he was even a FA, he could have easily pouted and said I'll show them and signed elsewhere. But he didn't so what evidence do you have to make you think TT will do that and go elsewhere?

Nepotism is not unusual in NFL
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I believe this is really not the case. If RW or the GM wanted to fire Ronnie Jones he could have anytime he wanted. He didn't need Wade's permission. But in most cases the front offices position is well you Mister HC hired this guy so it's up to you to fire him or not. I'm not going to do the dirty work for you, but I could. If you don't fire him I'll be very disappointed and it's one more nail in your coffin if and when I may decide to fire you. RW then tried to play the insubordination angle and tried to fire Wade with cause and not have to pay off his contract, but it didn't work. I do agree with your overall point though that nepotism and hiring your buddies is typical in the NFL as it is in most places in general in life. The NFL is no different than anyplace else. -
Carpenter restructures.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to FireChan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Does make you wonder if there was some lingering injury. He knew it, Rex knew as did the team, so the issues he had last season are somewhat understandable so they are giving him another year -
To me this is the big one. QB's aren't able to mentally process things fast enough due to the speed of the game. On the other hand to your point of 10 good/ 10 middle and 10 bottom; maybe it's just simple math. Back in the days of Joe Willy, Sonny Jurgenson, Starr, Unitas, etc there were less teams. In the early 70's I think there were about 26 teams which is about 20% less. Plus seemed back then the bad teams with bad QB's were terrible all around and without FA stayed that way. In 1970, if you were a fan of say Philly, Pitt, Atlanta, NE, Cleveland, who cares about the QB as the rest of the team was pretty bad too. More of the good QB's came from the AFL side of things too if that has any underlying meaning??

I agree there is a shortage, roughly only half the teams have legit QB's. Makes me laugh when posters here say TT will never be a franchise QB and the Bill's need to replace him. Yeah great idea, there's a good chance they are correct, but with who? If it were that easy all the teams would have good QB's. As to your solutions, wouldn't say no, but maybe there are better alternatives. For years I've been stating the best option are Stepford QB's I don't think it's the rules as much as it is defensive players are getting too big, too fast, and too god for the QB to be able to mentally and physically compete with them. Couple that with coaching and schemes getting even more complicated as teams coaching staffs now spend 12 months coming up with new concepts to further confuse the QB

Bills fire DL coach Karl Dunbar
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to CNY315's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Got to be more too it. Could have been something Rex was trying to get Dunbar to buy into and he just wasn't. Finally Rex had enough. -
Buddy and the 46: 85 Bears
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well the only problem with this thought is for all we know, Rex has a already cut the play book in half. -
Since he was only here one season, probably he shouldn't have used the word historically, but 23 out of 32 is the bottom 25%. That would be like calling a "D" student a good student. I think a number of responses here called it right, Rex felt he could teach his scheme to the current players and make things better. That didn't work. It's been stated many places that one of the biggest detractors to this was Mario, I'd be very surprised if he didn't cause many more issues in the locker room over this than has even leaked out. What's been stated publicly may only be the tip of the iceberg. Why do i think that? The fact that the #1 overall pick who had some good years in Houston (maybe not warranting the #1 overall pick but still good) was let go to become a FA is telling. In hind sight we should have ran for the hills. And that could be a lesson, when someone who's an amazing talent is a FA, unless the former team had incredibly bad salary cap issues, there's a reason for it.

good news on the ralph..
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dwight in philly's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No problem with the Bears as that's in the middle of downtown so many other options particularly around public transportation. -
I think it's not a stretch to be better, think you're underestimating the improvement rookies can have in their 2nd year. We also had ton of injuries, Murphy's Law says that has to improve. The injuries did give backup more playing time so again that could help. I can't think of a season in recent memory where we lost as few impact players from the prior year in FA. We've lost Williams who did close to nothing, Bradem, and probably Rambo. That's not too hard to replace even with weak replacements. I think the biggest mistake Rex made as a coach last year was tweaking the defense, but not completely changing it to his own D. He tried to play both sides of the fence, just put one toe in the water as they say. Seems fro mwhat I've read, this coming year he's playing his defense and has Rob there to assist and also Rob can help i nthat he's the one guy who wouldn't be afraid to stand up to Rex or tell him no! So I don't think it would take much to see improvment

Not Another Schopp & Bulldog Thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to sir andrew's topic in Off the Wall Archives
It's kind of like Lebatard and Stugatts. Get Lebatard away and Stugatts is also OK to listen too. Stugatts is also like Bulldog in that when together, seems Stugatt's biggest job is to laugh out loud at all of Lebatards dumb remarks and jokes. And you would be correct in assuming I don't like Lebatard. I was thrilled when he took over the 10 to 1 time slot as I'm at work then so no radio to listen to then and didn't have to listen to him driving home any longer. -
Mario to sign with Miami? [UPDATE: Signed]
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to boater's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Just like I said the Bills/ Rex invited Antonio Chrom. in as courtesy and it's good PR to keep up a good relationship with him. Mario W stated he's be willing to take a pay cut to stay was nothing more than Mario trying to be the "good guy". Fan's shouldn't rip for leaving as he was willing to take a pay cut, it's all on the Bill's. In reality he knew there was no way the Bills would ever agree to it so he's just trying to make himself out to be the hero. -
Report: Fitzy to hit the market
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's impossible, there's a 20 + page thread titled we have the worst salary cap in the league. Likely the Jet's may have figured out Fitz can win some games, probably more than Geno could, but he's not a franchise QB so better to move on, go with a year of Geno stinking up the place get a high draft pick next year and maybe get a good QB. Though not very good odds and no idea if there will be a true franchise QB available when they pick, and even if there is, better than a 50/50 shot the guy flames out. I'd be happy with him here as a backup to TT. You can win games with him, just not in long stretches as once opposing teams see recent film of him, they can stop him. -
We have the worst cap situation in the league?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Overdorf got a bad rap over the years. He was just doing what RW and Littman instructed him to do. Now the handcuffs have been removed. -
We have the worst cap situation in the league?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So what other moves can we still make as far a logical restructures? Glimore and Glenn have been mentioned, are there any others? I've heard Lawson's name mentioned a couple of times. Would re-do of Kyle Williams help or is it a case with Kyle to save cap $$ they'd need to cut him?? Anyone else making high $$ that likely isn't wort hit? -

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
May be time for the OP to start a new thread; "Bill's are in best cap shape in the league for 2017 season" But am certain we'll never see something like that as doesn't align with his agenda.
