Doesn't Whaley have to retain Taylor?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think there's a real possibility that Whaley could be gone in May after the draft, believe front office contracts typically expire after the draft anyway. If he doesn't go then I agree with kdiggs, he's here for awhile. TP appears to be the kind of guy that doesn't like constant change so think he will give both McD and DW time to fix this. McD supposedly signed a 5 year deal, think he'll be here for at least the first 4. And think he'll give DW the time to get the players they feel they need. If the rumors are true that Rex was more a, TP choice than DW, again I think that gives DW a bit more rope. It also typically gets messy when you have a coach in place and bring in a new GM, unless you happen to find a GM with a long history with the HC so baring some really terrible draft choices, think DW is here as long as HC which I think is 4 years. Sounds like you're assuming DW is on thin ice. The only people who've stated that to be true is the media and many posters here. -

Got to ask, is there any owner in the NFL with an ugly wife? -
Do not rush the OC hire

Agree, that's why I suspect he's already in place, just not announced yet. Root for the Steelers on Sunday! -
I think there is a chance DW could be gone after the draft as from I know front office contracts typically expire May 1st after the draft for the reasons being that person has done all the scouting. If he doesn't go then , I think he'll be around for a few years. McD signed a five year contract. I think he'll be given four years to turn it around as I don't think TP wants to do another coaching search if he can avoid it, would rather give McD time to fix things. If in two years, things are no better, can see TP more telling DW OK you need to fix the roster. If you fire DW and keep McD, then you get into the ugly messy situation with a GM in place who didn't hire the HC. So unless TP really feels DW is doing a terrible job in the draft or FA, I think he will be here as long as McD is. Glad to see Rex gone as he really made a mess of too many things. However with the leaks that he's going to be fired at year end, him being told he can't play TT, really can't blame him much at all to ask TP lets get this over with now. Didn't Dick Jauron do the same, left with about 3 or 4 weeks to go. Perry Fuwell was named interim coach and Bobby April was furious he wasn't named interim coach as his position was officially the assistant HC

Do not rush the OC hire
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
On Thursday when McD first was announced as coach, the rumor was his LB or DB coach at Carolina would become the DC. That didn't happen at all, so other than the media saying it was McCoy, who knows if he was even seriously considered or not. I do agree likely the reason nothing is being talked about for OC is it's all agreed to who it will be but his team is still playing. And agree it likely is one of the two from KC. Why else would you hire the OL coach if you don't know who the OC will be? -

Last I saw he was Jean Val Jean! Just watched it a week or two ago as a matter of fact. Some of things posted do amaze! -
Actually we have no one on the staff named Cromer!! But that's besides the point. The fact that so little has been said officially about the OC and we already hired one position coach Castillo without an OC in place makes me feel it's highly likely the OC is already known and is one one of the teams playing this week so can't yet be announced. . Based on a number of comments made likey is one of the two in KC.

So here's my prediction, there have been a number of articles stating how the Bills and DW have moved on from TT evidenced by benching him for the finale. Personally I just see it as away to keep their options open. But the media has decided we are moving on. And so it was written!! So if the Bills do decide to keep TT it now will all be due to McDermott and how he was smart enough to realize we need to keep him and somehow managed to overrule DW to keep him and all the praise will go to him.

If they are thinking of either of them, I'm sure unofficially they have received an OK from KC that Buffalo can have him.

Potential Bidding War over McCoy?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the Rex firing goes much deeper than that. In a nut shell, he was a hot mess and they figured out even bringing him back for another year wasn't going to change the 10 or 12 men on the field, the penalty's, the constant boasting with nothing to show for it, the hiring of Rob, and a few other classics I'm probably forgetting. Defense could be fixed, but not these other things as go much deeper. That I think is really what got him fired! -
Big names didn't get jobs.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well it could be true but ONLY for the coaches on that staff who have contracts expiring that year. But that's a big if. And what I don't know is if teams going to the Super bowl after the conference championship week games, (this year starting Jan 23rd) will go to any of their coaches that they want to retain and offer and hopefully get signed extensions done before the Super Bowl, so then no one is ever made available as all under contract. But completely agree with your point in that billsfan75 was implying that you can basically just get all the coaches from your old staff to come over to new team regardless of contract status. Years back recall most assistant contracts are only for two years, not sure if that's still true, if so, then 50% would have expiring contracts every year. -
From what I've read contracts for assistant coaches are all on two year contracts. So that would mean once they guy signs a contract, it's only one off-season he'd be locked in for. Granted that could be the one year he'd have got the chance to move up, but often seen where a HC wants a guy, he signs him and just kind of creates a new position on his staff for him. So if the guys is under contract wait one year and sign him to a newly created position, kind of what Rex did with Rob.

Kyle Posey: Debunking the Tyrod Taylor Myth
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There I fixed it for you to be more accurate of the situation. That does make a big difference. Yes you can learn something standing on the sideline, but then you need to be on the field to see if it actually works. Another name to add to that list would be Vinny T. He was terrible for the first 10 years or so. -
I'll be very surprised if it's Lynn only because rarely have I ever seen an in place coordinator interview for the HC position, see the position given to someone else, then stay on in his old position as OC. Yes I understand he's under contract and technically doesn't have a choice (just like Jim Schwarz), but it just doesn't happen as too much bitterness and disapointment and at this level you want a person who is 110% happy with the McDermott hire and can't see how Lynn would ever be.

Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to realtruelove's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah but unless Lynn professes how he wants to be here in Buffalo, the team that decided not to make him their next HC, now they want him to continue on as the OC. Yes I get it that he's under contract, but at this level, unless the guy for some strange reason has 0% bitterness towards the Bills, no regrets at all, he'll be gone. Can't recall of other times when a guy presently on staff interviewed for HC position of same team, was not selected, but then went back to his old position on the staff. It just doesn't work that way -
So you're saying trashing a plane, punching a hole in a wall , not doing interviews postgame, and going to Miami the week before the game makes them a bad sport?? Boy R U picky!!

Ghost of Mangini, Crennel, and Weiss
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think this may have alot to do with it. Unless it's a team going wit ha complete re-build, then maybe a month behind isn't as bad. But not so sure either of them would want to get into a total rebuild. I do also think many wonder are these guys really good or is it all BB pulling the strings behind the curtain. -
3 Best and Worst Whaley Moves
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I guess I'd arguee that Clay and Hughes are more a case of the coach not utilizing their skills. Hughes in particular has shown to be good, prior Rex. -
So here's a situation where a coach from the offensive side of the ball was promoted to HC, spent all this time all season in meeting with the rest of the offensive staff, but yet he turns around and fired the WR coach. And yet there are people here that don't understand why if a guy like McDermott were to become HC that Lynn wouldn't just automatically stay on. McDermott is a defensive side so he needs an OC, so Lynn would be a natural. Just like when Schwartz parted ways from Ryan a similar thing will happen here likely. Sometimes a few are kept on, but usually only if they had some type of prior history.

Jags hire Tom Coughlin as executive

You know you're right, does look a bit like a heavier older version of TC. Will be TC in 10 years!
