  1. Does make you wonder if there was some lingering injury. He knew it, Rex knew as did the team, so the issues he had last season are somewhat understandable so they are giving him another year
  2. To me this is the big one. QB's aren't able to mentally process things fast enough due to the speed of the game. On the other hand to your point of 10 good/ 10 middle and 10 bottom; maybe it's just simple math. Back in the days of Joe Willy, Sonny Jurgenson, Starr, Unitas, etc there were less teams. In the early 70's I think there were about 26 teams which is about 20% less. Plus seemed back then the bad teams with bad QB's were terrible all around and without FA stayed that way. In 1970, if you were a fan of say Philly, Pitt, Atlanta, NE, Cleveland, who cares about the QB as the rest of the team was pretty bad too. More of the good QB's came from the AFL side of things too if that has any underlying meaning??
  3. I agree there is a shortage, roughly only half the teams have legit QB's. Makes me laugh when posters here say TT will never be a franchise QB and the Bill's need to replace him. Yeah great idea, there's a good chance they are correct, but with who? If it were that easy all the teams would have good QB's. As to your solutions, wouldn't say no, but maybe there are better alternatives. For years I've been stating the best option are Stepford QB's I don't think it's the rules as much as it is defensive players are getting too big, too fast, and too god for the QB to be able to mentally and physically compete with them. Couple that with coaching and schemes getting even more complicated as teams coaching staffs now spend 12 months coming up with new concepts to further confuse the QB
  4. This holding out thing is so 1900's. Just don't see it much anymore with players under contract. Likely could have been some subtle changes in the past CBA or two that made it tough and little incentive to hold out while under contract. Slotting for rookies likely has alot to do with it
  5. Got to be more too it. Could have been something Rex was trying to get Dunbar to buy into and he just wasn't. Finally Rex had enough.
  6. Well the only problem with this thought is for all we know, Rex has a already cut the play book in half.
  7. 30 years, that's since 1986 Since we mad the playoffs was it 8 out of 10 years in the 1990's I'm a bit confused to say the least?
  8. Since he was only here one season, probably he shouldn't have used the word historically, but 23 out of 32 is the bottom 25%. That would be like calling a "D" student a good student. I think a number of responses here called it right, Rex felt he could teach his scheme to the current players and make things better. That didn't work. It's been stated many places that one of the biggest detractors to this was Mario, I'd be very surprised if he didn't cause many more issues in the locker room over this than has even leaked out. What's been stated publicly may only be the tip of the iceberg. Why do i think that? The fact that the #1 overall pick who had some good years in Houston (maybe not warranting the #1 overall pick but still good) was let go to become a FA is telling. In hind sight we should have ran for the hills. And that could be a lesson, when someone who's an amazing talent is a FA, unless the former team had incredibly bad salary cap issues, there's a reason for it.
  9. No problem with the Bears as that's in the middle of downtown so many other options particularly around public transportation.
  10. I think it's not a stretch to be better, think you're underestimating the improvement rookies can have in their 2nd year. We also had ton of injuries, Murphy's Law says that has to improve. The injuries did give backup more playing time so again that could help. I can't think of a season in recent memory where we lost as few impact players from the prior year in FA. We've lost Williams who did close to nothing, Bradem, and probably Rambo. That's not too hard to replace even with weak replacements. I think the biggest mistake Rex made as a coach last year was tweaking the defense, but not completely changing it to his own D. He tried to play both sides of the fence, just put one toe in the water as they say. Seems fro mwhat I've read, this coming year he's playing his defense and has Rob there to assist and also Rob can help i nthat he's the one guy who wouldn't be afraid to stand up to Rex or tell him no! So I don't think it would take much to see improvment
  11. It's kind of like Lebatard and Stugatts. Get Lebatard away and Stugatts is also OK to listen too. Stugatts is also like Bulldog in that when together, seems Stugatt's biggest job is to laugh out loud at all of Lebatards dumb remarks and jokes. And you would be correct in assuming I don't like Lebatard. I was thrilled when he took over the 10 to 1 time slot as I'm at work then so no radio to listen to then and didn't have to listen to him driving home any longer.
  12. Just like I said the Bills/ Rex invited Antonio Chrom. in as courtesy and it's good PR to keep up a good relationship with him. Mario W stated he's be willing to take a pay cut to stay was nothing more than Mario trying to be the "good guy". Fan's shouldn't rip for leaving as he was willing to take a pay cut, it's all on the Bill's. In reality he knew there was no way the Bills would ever agree to it so he's just trying to make himself out to be the hero.
  13. Personally I'd bag all this nonsense and go for the kiss! And hopefully end it with Kim saying Terry who??
  14. That's impossible, there's a 20 + page thread titled we have the worst salary cap in the league. Likely the Jet's may have figured out Fitz can win some games, probably more than Geno could, but he's not a franchise QB so better to move on, go with a year of Geno stinking up the place get a high draft pick next year and maybe get a good QB. Though not very good odds and no idea if there will be a true franchise QB available when they pick, and even if there is, better than a 50/50 shot the guy flames out. I'd be happy with him here as a backup to TT. You can win games with him, just not in long stretches as once opposing teams see recent film of him, they can stop him.
  15. I think Overdorf got a bad rap over the years. He was just doing what RW and Littman instructed him to do. Now the handcuffs have been removed.
  16. So what other moves can we still make as far a logical restructures? Glimore and Glenn have been mentioned, are there any others? I've heard Lawson's name mentioned a couple of times. Would re-do of Kyle Williams help or is it a case with Kyle to save cap $$ they'd need to cut him?? Anyone else making high $$ that likely isn't wort hit?
  17. May be time for the OP to start a new thread; "Bill's are in best cap shape in the league for 2017 season" But am certain we'll never see something like that as doesn't align with his agenda.
  18. I'd be willing to bet that more than half the $$ they spend on FA pick ups end up under performing. One thing I believe Marv Levy said a long time ago, most often FA hurt the team they are leaving more than they help the team they are going to. With $80 mil will be very easy for them to overpay for talent. For the most part FA that become available are available for a reason, they really aren't as good as they seem to outside eyes, or there's something going on that the outside world doesn't see. For example a guy like Decker who went to the Jets and got big money. He looked much better in Denver whet he had D Thomas on the other side and the good Peyton throwing him the ball. He did better this year now that he has Brandon Marshall across from him and didn't have Geno Smith throwing to him. But the Jets paid him like a #1 receiver, but he really is a decent to good #2 depending on QB play. Jag's may sign alot of that.
  19. Yeah maybe Glenn is planning a big 4th of July celebration!
  20. You're probably right as doubt anyone can be that stupid!
  21. Completely agree!! You don't need 71 YO coaches. Coughlin was a very good disciplinarian, he seemed to have had more losing seasons than winning years. The only reason he ever lasted as long as he did was every 5 years or so right about the time he was ready to be fired, he'd get lucky the team would get hot at the right time and win the Super Bowl and that bought him another 3 or 4 years of middle of the road. If the story is true about being forced out, I'd say it's about time.
  22. Back maybe in the first few years that they started having the byes, I do recall one year they had two byes. And they did for the most part have them spread out.
  23. That's part of the game, make him an offer he'll never accept. and if somehow he did, well then it would be a great deal for the Bill's. Plus last year they tended to have more money to spend than this year.
  24. Lot of this is just politics. Rex invites him in, tells him the Bills want to sign him, but strangely they just can't agree on a contract. Once he signs elsewhere Rex calls him up, wishes him luck and tell him how he wished it had worked out. Keeps him and Rex on good terms as you never know where either of them may be a year from now, or maybe the Bill's need CB help later on.
  25. I've thought about this too over the years and would be OK with some concept along these lines. Another thought I had was to allow bonuses to players that say perform in the top 5% or 10% but that doesn't count against the cap. This would be money given to players who are really good, but doesn't hurt your cap.
