Both of those positions were absolutely addressed. A new QB was brought in, granted it wasn't Aaron Rodgers, but if you know where someone like that is available, please let the Bills know. The O-line has 2 new starters, that's 40% change You had a rookie last year who showed promise at RT that you'd expect him to improve more, that didn't happen, maybe the illness has been bothering him all year or maybe he isn't going to get any better at all, but he was just playing through it. Eventually got so bad he had to sit. Is it the front offices fault for not anticipating one of the starters was going to develop Crohn's Disease? Did the changes work out as well as expected, actually most would argue those were two areas that the changes made worked out much better than anticipated, particularly with Richie and TT

While I certainly agree with the comments about the undisciplined style, lets give it another year with players who can play the D he wants to implement. Should he have been happy playing the same style defense as last year rather than what he wants, sure sounds great, but hat's not the way life in the NFL works. And even if he had, with injuries and some players a year older, (i.e. the Williams brothers) really doubt we'd have had the same level of success as last year anyway. The only person in NY who wanted to run him out of town was the ex GM who did a real good job of setting him up to fail, the owner supposedly wanted him to come back So yes as fans most of us will be more disappointed this season as we all had much higher, probably unrealistic expectations, admittedly fueled in large part by Rex himself.

Gilmore Injury Updates: Placed on IR
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
While certainly this year has not worked out the way anyone expected in regards to coaching, of the last four people to coach the Bill's which drew more excitement that Rex's hire. Rex made one huge mistake in thinking he could take the players we had and adapt them to his system and immediately be just as good if not better. As has been pointed out last few games things have got better. Will be shocked if you don't see other styles of players brought in this off-season. Think you need to give it another year before ready to give up. If you and many others are really correct and Rex truly is a terrible coach, got to give him credit for one thing, pulling off the greatest charade to get hired using smoke and mirrors. -
Schwartz declined, admittedly not sure how hard Rex tried to convince him to stay. But that's all part of bringing in a new coach, not often do other coordinators stay, biggest reason is often they interviewed for the HC position and were turned down so they tend to have a chip on their shoulder, and more often the style of the new HC clashes with the old coordinators scheme. From Rex's side I'm the new HC if things go south here in Buffalo, I want to know it wasn't because I let someone else run the show. When you factor in the injuries, key D line a year older, not to say they would have been as good as last year. When you were as good as they were, the odds are higher you'll get worse than better. For the people arguing that Rex should have kept Schwartz, a better argument could be if the Bills' loved the defense so much, they should have made Schwartz the HC

The MMQB: Is Tyrod Taylor "The Guy"?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agree, that is the biggest area he needs to improve on. Getting physically stronger wouldn't hurt either. Could the Bills do better at QB, sure, but the odds are stacked against them just because there aren't nearly enough true franchise QB's around. So you have to make the best of what you have. Also unless you really get a Brady Rodgers, Manning type, the next level while good, command to much $$ to be able to afford the pieces around them, but aren't quite good enough to win consistently with less than stellar talent. -
I think that's the issue, Rex looked at all this talent he was getting and figured how even better they will be in his brilliant scheme. His ego told him that he could easily get the players to adapt to his ideas and the D will be even better. To be honest not sure his ego is bigger than others in this respect, think all coaches think they can solve all of teams issues, otherwise they'd never have taken the job. Positive thinking is great, but also need to be realistic.

Eagles picking up silent snap count
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to l< j's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Don't forget too, we did just cut Mulligan. (Was trying to think of a cleaver way to work it in that we took a mulligan) He often was in for blocking, at a minimum likely would have had a much bigger role on Sunday once Clay went down. Instead we had Gragg, was O'Leary even active? don't recall?? -
Plain and simple, it could be his best offer, if it is likely he comes, if not, he'll go elsewhere. You could make the argument well it's better for him to sit out a year, but these guys worry and justifiably so that once they sit out, they are forgotten quickly.
-
For LaCanfora to say ODB is better when he has Manning throwing to him vs Manual, Orton, and TT is just plain stupid on his part. No way you can equate one to the other. I could more see the argument made if you don't have a great QB, why make the trade, though even that I personally don't agree with, but it's a harder point to argue against.

Neutral Zone Violation
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes but according to the rule then and now as soon as the O lineman moves that is considered "harm" so then a foul is called. Conversely if he gets back both then and now and no one moves no foul. Still no one has shown what has changed with respect to the rule. Sounds like what has been stated here is a team figured how to use the rule to their advantage and get five free yards. -
Neutral Zone Violation
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So did the rule change or did a team finally read the rule book and figure out that if we move they will flag the D To me seems like smart coaching. I've always wondered why teams didn't do this all the time. so when the D line jumps over the line to try and get an advantage in the pass rush, then goes back, you feel it's up to the offensive lineman to do everything in his power to make sure he doesn't move. If teams get smart, we may see alot more of this, but will stop quickly once the defense starts getting penalized often enough, then they will stop tying to jump the snap. I see the rule is "quoted". Let's see the "old rule" since everyone is saying it's changed. Seems to me nothing has changed, just a team taking advantage of it and likely more to come. -
Gilmore Injury Updates: Placed on IR
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
How many years has he been here?? 6 or 7, know he's on his 2nd contract. He had one good year at CB, think it was the year his contract was up. He's made a number of bone headed moves over the years, high draft pick and never lived up to it. -
Neutral Zone Violation
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You can't be serious?? A do-over, what is this 5th grade? The D-lineman is trying to jump the snap count. he was wrong so why shouldn't he be penalized, else he's getting an unfair advantage. Can someone explain what rule allegedly changed? As far as I know the rule today is the same as it always was, if the D-lineman can get back without causing any movement, no flag. But if there is movement, then penalty on the D. I've often said for years whenever watching games, why doesn't the center automatically snap it whenever there is movement across the line, then it's a penalty. Looks like finally a team is getting smart and maybe is taught as soon as that guy comes across, you move so they have to call the penalty on the D. Smart coaching. You don't want a penalty, don't jump. Obviously the O-line is taking a risk by moving as the ref may swear he saw them move first which then would casue the D-line to jump and call illegal procedure rather than the correct call. But if you do that all the time whenever the D jumps, in the long run you'll probably come out ahead on the calls, but the refs will get some wrong. -
Keep Woods, but more as a #3, bring in a 6'-5" WR who can catch as the #2 Woods and Hogan as 3 and 4 would be fine

Pegula's interference Freddy/Rex
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The problem with Rex is like most coaches, they all have big ego's and Rex may have one of the biggest of all. So Rex comes into town drooling of the defense he's inheriting and thinking to himself how much better they will even be with my amazing scheme. The players will love it and be even better, my scheme is so good, doesn't matter what the players natural strengths are, my system trumps all that. Hey it worked once before when I took over the Jets! -

Pegula's interference Freddy/Rex
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to billsintaiwan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Where is this written that Pegula was behind cutting of Fred?? Even the Rex hire, there is no way you can convince me that he would have hired Rex if either DW or RB said no. They were alI on board too. I like Whaley and do hope he's brought back, hiring Rex probably was a mistake, but blaming this on Pegula for getting involved is laughable. -
Agree with most of your comments wit ha couple of comments: #3, think it's just more a case of the Eagles D line just being so much better than the Bill's O-line, that's one area that needs much improvement #7, agree though not sure if it was all on TT or was the play calling putting him in that position where there weren't any other options. Did any one run short routes? Certainly something he needs to learn, but with only 11 starts, lets see if it's an area he can improve on.

Pick on Ertz Reception?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed, but not like I've seen 27 other teams doing that either. Most times, the OL freezes, and no call or the defender did completly rattle him to the point he did move, where as in this game do think the Eagle players were smart enough to deliberately move. That's the only time I've seen a team do that, not even the Pats seem to instinctively do that. -
2 plays to get 8 yards...
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Certainly too much easier to complete the long pass in the 2nd quarter when teams have to respect short gains. That is the biggest worry I have in TT completions of 5 to 20 yards. But with only 11 games starting, certainly willing to give him another year to see if he can learn that himself. -
Pick on Ertz Reception?
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
When I watched it live my initial reaction was it was a pick. After watching the replay I more saw a case of the Bill's player crashing into the Eagle who not even sure was moving at that instant. Granted the reason he crashed into him was because the Eagle player put himself into a position to get in his way, but when that happens rarely will you get the call. From what I've sen to get the pick call you need to get in the way of the DB, then keep moving to continue to be in the way of the defender as he attempts to go around you. Didn't really see that happen here. On another note, with regards to the four off-sides, I've always wondered why more teams don't do that whenever a defensive player jumps, immediately jump up or snap the ball as guarantees you'll get the call. Too often you just hold your ground and give enough time for the D-lineman to get back on-sides, then there's no call either way. -
Can we at least agree on this? (Tyrod)
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So what better options are there? The Bills are not getting anywhere near a top five pick, probably not a top 10, so you're not getting anyone likely to be the next Manning. Even with the #1 pick still not much better than 50/50 that even he'd be the next Manning if you look at history of draft picks Can you get the next Rodgers with a lower pick, sure but I'm not so sure Rodgers would be anywhere near as good if he'd been asked to start from year #1, in that case you'd want to stick with TT a couple years anyway. The odds are much greater if you change QB's the next guy you get has a much better chance of being the next EJ or Ryan Leaf than Manning. Not saying they shouldn't get a development guy, but until that guy starts out performing TT in practice and other situations, stick with TT -
Changes will be needed
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You may not get a 2nd rate guy, but you'd get a guy who likely wouldn't choose Rex s a coach, now he's stuck with him for at least a couple of years. Actually would not at all be surprised to learn that there's a clause in Rex's contract that states something to the affect, if the Bills bring in a new GM, he gets to approve the choice and/or be involved with the selection as he'd have been smart enough to not want to get into the same situation as he had with the Jet's with a GM that he felt hung him out to fail. So put in a clause that makes him part of any changes, particularly since he knew when he came here DW only had one year left on his contract. I'm not so sure it isn't near the top. Fix the O-line get a #2 receiver and you've solved most of the problems on offense. It may not be the #1 problem but do think it's close to the top.
