Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the best part of Whaley signing the extension will be reading Sully's column this week. And Vic may be a close second! -

NFC wildcard game 1: Seattle at Minnesota

I just lost the TV broadcast of the game. NBC is out, is it local to where I live or all over? I'm watching via DTV, but even OTA nothing -
AFC Wildcard game 2: Steelers at Bengals
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
At that point the refs weren't going to call any dead ball penalties, Porter shouldn't be on the field, but not going to get called. At that point nothing is going to get called for dead ball fouls, ..... until you bump the official. The nit's a different ball game.. Granted it was not intentional, but that will be called regardless of situation. Certainly the Steelers instigated it, but doesn't matter. -
AFC Wildcard game 2: Steelers at Bengals
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
And they did. At that point it's highly unlikely the refs will call any dead balls either way. They've put their ear muffs and blinders on and swallowed their whistles. Players could yap al lthey want at each other and nothing would have been called, If two players started shoving eachother likely would have called a flag on both rather than move the ball as a result of a dead ball penalty. The only thing you can't get away with it touching an official, which is exactly what the Bengles did. Did the Steelers likely bait him. I'm sure they did, but still can't touch an official even if by accident. -
Seems like all these announcers start out good, then go downhill over time. Makes me wonder are the announcers really going downhill or is simply the fact that viewers get tired of listening to them.

Coughlin or Lebeau can help Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to NastyNateSoldiers's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Talking with some Steelers fans, they were happy when Lebeau left as flt he was more of the problem than the solution and that the game passed him by. So no probably better to pass -
Vic Carucci reported it so it must be true! Kind of sad that he's becoming the punch line of jokes around here I will say! I do wonder if this is some type of an attempt by Tenn to get serious with Chip Kelly. Maybe Kelly's #1 choice is San Fran and if that falls through will go to Tenn. So Tenn is playing the Mularkey card now to force him to take them serious or he could end up another bridesmaid next to Doug Marrone.

The other thing too is there's not another LA out there. 15 years ago was pretty easy for teams to threaten to move to get whatever they want as there was a long list of cities willing to offer whatever was asked for. It's much harder these days as cities have realized (like St Louis when they lured the Rams there)) that spending billions to build a stadium is not a good investment and won't help long term, so the list of cities willing to do this today is much shorter. Ironically if history is any indication, one city I'd put near the top of the list is St Louis as seems once a city loses a team, then they do come up with the money to build the stadium and offer the deal that would have kept the team from leaving in the first place. See Cleveland, Houston, Baltimore (seems I'm leaving one other out?) I suppose I should include St Louis as if they had originally made the offer, they may never have lost the Cardinals. So will St Louis be the only city to ever lose two sports teams in the same League? That is quite the distinction.

Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes but why give him an extension if he's on that thin ice. And if that's the case, if I'm Whaley I'm not so sure I'd even want to sig nan extension if you're putting me on such a short leash. Or maybe they were told we need to win next year and Vic is turning that into an ultimatum of being fired. -
So if this one year to fix things proclamation is true, then why would the other story that Whale is getting an extension make any sense? Certainly is easy to fire them after one year, but even easier to not give him an extension and do the same. I always thought Carucci was a good reporter, but starting to wonder if he's on some type of crusade? These two releases don't both make sense. Sorry but one of them can not be true.

Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills

GM and other front office contracts typically expire in May after the draft, so doubt this would have any bearing. -
[closed]Frank takes the hit in SD
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to dawolv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kind of funny 1 to 2 years ago he was the hot ticket. Now he's fired! -
In fairness we had a top defense in 2014. Even with no changes at all, say Marrone and Schwartz still here, the likelihood of not making some fairly significant changes to the defense after two years is probably low. Or the alternative is, keep the D intact for two seasons, and watch it quickly go from top 3 to bottom 3 by holding onto players too long.

2016 Draft O-line thread
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Beerball's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Henderson was a 7th round DP, so to say they didn't get the performance they hoped for is hard to believe. I thought Henderson played well early as a rookie, seem to recall him being the rookie of the month in Sept? This year he regressed before being sat down. What hasn't been stated when did this illness start affecting him and what is the long term prognosis of being cured? If it turns out he was already having trouble maintaining weight and eating properly since say training camp, but no one knew why, I'm more likely to feel better about him still being an adequate answer there, assuming he is OK next year. But likely won't know for certain the long term situation with him so probably need to draft another RT. If Henderson can come back, even if it means sitting out a full year or so could stil lgive you good depth there and cheap depth between Henderson and another rookie. -
49ers need a new HC- Tomsula fired
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There were posts here about how Dennis Thurman shouldn't be allowed to speak. Same thing hold here and in this case, he's a HC. Maybe he's a great coach, but hard to gain confidence listening to him. -
Was listening to the Bills pre-game, during the "round table" think it was Howard Simon whom brought up, after the 2104 final game their QB announced he's retiring, and two days later the HC quit. Neither of these events the Bills were prepared for nor expected, particularly Marrone leaving. Went on to say that replacing the HC and QB and not expecting the team to have a drop off was very unrealistic and just doesn't happen in the NFL. WRT #6 Dennis Thurman. I agree, not happy with what he brings. Only problem is what is his real job? Yes he's called the DC, but Rex is truely the DC here. If it's because he doesn't trust Thurman to do more, then agree replacing him would be good IF you can bring in someone who can add value. But if all he's really going to do is yell at officials after games, not much difference who is in that position.

One of the reasons TT signed here was that he was given a shot to start. All he needed to do was beat out EJ, don't even think Cassell was signed yet. So TT must have figured he could beat out EJ so he signed. It was written he was oiffered more money from Denver, but turned it down as knew he wasn't about to beat out Peyton Manning. With Fitz here for would have been five years now, pretty much would make him the well established starter for good or bad, much tougher for TT to have beaten him out. So yes if the Bills liked TT he could also have been here except a much higher chance he would not have been interested in signing as he wanted to be a starter. Maybe the Bills still would have offered the best chance with Fitz, but maybe not

Bills Plan to keep 3 kickers next year
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Actually I do think all this talk (not that I'm in disagreement mind you) about we need to draft a QB of the future and also bring in an experienced vet backup likely could mean the end of Carpenter. If you draft anyone higher than the 3rd round, (maybe even the 4th) if you were to cut him at the end of Training camp with plans to move him to the PS, would be a very good chance someone else claims him. So you'd need to keep him active which means 3 roster spots for QB. In doing that can't see anyway we could afford the extra spot for Gay. So would need to find a new picker whom can also kickoff. Even without carrying theee QB's a good chance Carp is gone, but the QB moves could seal it for him. -
Marrone/Schwartz to Miami? Nope. Gase it is.
Ed_Formerly_of_Roch replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Can you show me an article where he stated that? Seems I recall Johnson stating he hated to fire him. I'm sure there was a part of Johnson that did agree with you, but he was far from dumped. So of those dozen candidates who truly had a better resume than Rex? Listening to the pre-game "Round Table" A rather interesting comment was just made. At the end of last season, no one expected within about a week for the QB to retire and the HC to quit. Historically any team that has to make changes of that magnitude rarely doesn't take a step backwards. So Rex is a good PR machine and promised improvements that never happened. While most coaches wouldn't be yapping as much, that doesn't mean he can or can't coach.
