  1. Beane seems to have more faith in Spencer Brown than you and many of the fans on this board do. He consistently defends him by saying that his having back surgery and missing all of the Offseason while being knicked up through the season was the root of his problems. I'm sure he'll bring in another Tackle in FA or the mid rounds of the Draft to be competition for Brown and at least be our swing Tackle off the bench to replace David Quessenberry. But he's not going out and signing some big name guy to a big contract to be an outright replacement. And Slot WR? If you'd have said a 3rd and 4th Outside WR, I'd agree. But Khalil Shakir showed to be our best Slot WR last season in limited action and is due for more reps. Deonte Harty also plays Slot. We have no need for another Slot WR. That's why McKenzie was released after we signed Harty to replace him. Slot is covered. We need more guys who can play on the boundary. We can't be in a situation like we were last year where if Diggs or Davis is banged up, we put out Jake Kumerow.
  2. It's a link to Fournette's post where he says "The realest in this sh-t.... Ask about me see y'all real soon" Most likely just Diggs promoting a friend.
  3. No need to cut him. He's a Free Agent and I don't see them jumping through hoops to re-sign him. And for good reason. They preferred putting converted CB Cam Lewis in his place. Is he Poyer or Hyde? No. But to say he's not very good isn't fair. For a 2nd year Safety who barely saw the field and was getting his first real action, he was doing a good enough job to be 2nd on the team in tackles and the team was 10-3 with him playing 100% of the snaps. You can do a LOT worse than him at Backup Safety, as we saw with guys like Jaquan Johnson, Cam Lewis, and Dean Marlowe. And he has room to grow into a better player than he already is.
  4. Agreed. Everyone on this board wants to write off Gabe Davis and Ed Oliver but Brandon Beane sounds like both are in his plans for years to come. And honestly - they should be. In today's NFL you need 3 solid outside WR's to compete at the top, not just 2. I'm agreeable to the fact that we need another outside weapon. But that's to compliment Diggs and Davis, offer rotation, and depth. Not to supplant Gabe completely.
  5. Beane could finagle the cap from a point of almost 20 million over and cover all 24 Free Agents we had with bodies... but it won't be "successful" around here unless he acquires a big name player that everyone has heard of 🙄
  6. The move would have to be Ed Oliver + a pick no lower than Round 2 and probably us taking on the difference of Ed Oliver's contract v. Jerry Jeudy's so that both teams cap situation stays the exact same. BUT I know fans are all ready to move on from Ed Oliver. But if you listened to Beane's presser yesterday, he specifically mentioned Ed and Gabe as guys he would like to keep for years to come beyond their Rookie contracts. So I don't know that he's on the same page. Plus, we'd have to find a replacement for Ed on the Defensive Line. Can't go into the year with Daquan Jones and Tim Settle as our starters and nothing behind them.
  7. I wouldn't call them locks, but if you listen to Beane, it doesn't sound like he's in a rush to flat out replace them. Nor is either so bad (Brown especially not having an offseason and coming off surgery) that they should immediately be demoted. Competition, sure. Get some guys in here via the Draft or inexpensive talented up and comers with potential that could push them and maybe beat them out. But Seumalo is a high priced star that would immediately replace Bates and if that were the plan, to me they'd have done that first and wouldn't have paid McGovern what they paid him. Our cap situation isn't in a place to sign one Guard to a 10+ million dollar deal now.
  8. Well, again, if Harty or Shakir doesn't hold up in Training Camp or the regular season and McKenzie's still out there, maybe that's something we'd look into. But at the moment, there is no spot for him on the roster. That's why he was released. It wasn't that 2.5 million was just too much money for him. He's been replaced.
  9. Yeah, except Tre had a full AC tear and reconstruction. And at no point did Beane say he expected to have him most of the year.
  10. Like others have said, he's going to cost more money than we can afford. If Seumalo was in play for us, we'd have not signed McGovern. McGovern and Bates are our Guards. Maybe they bring in another Guard that could compete with Bates and be depth. Or Draft one within the first few Rounds. But they aren't going to bring in someone who has a market value of 12.1 per year at this point. That would have been our first move if it were to happen.
  11. I think unless there's an injury to Deonte Harty or Khalil Shakir before the season or during it, it wouldn't make sense. You don't need 3 slot WR's on the team.
  12. That's not true. He had a partial tear repair, not a full AC reconstruction. He might not be ready for the start of the season, but Beane himself has said he expects to have him most of the year.
  13. And how did Isaiah's stats look compared to Cole Beasley's in any year he was the full time starting slot? Isaiah was given the starting slot role to fill Cole's shoes. In 2020 Cole had 82 catches. In 2021 Cole had 82 catches. In 2022 Isiah had 42 catches. That speaks to a lack of getting open.
  14. I'm in agreement. I think with the 12.5 we'd have releasing McKenzie and doing a better contract on Dane plus whatever else we would save from extending Jones, we should be able to take care of a couple things and then head to the Draft. I'd leave Oliver on the team and leave other contracts alone.
  15. Beane says they have about 9 right now. He also all but said Isaiah McKenzie will be released in the coming days which will save another 2.5. He also mentioned plans to get Dane Jackson under a deal that would lower his 2.7 hit. If/when those things happen, we'll probably be at around 12.5. He also mentioned he'll need about 3 for the Draft and 3 for the Practice Squad though. Looking at things, I think next up after McKenzie could be an extension for Daquan Jones that could save some this year. But after that, it's hard to really see where else they could save more. They theoretically could trade Ed Oliver which could save 10, but then we'd need someone to replace him bc we'd be left with just Daquan Jones and Tim Settle. Re-structuring Tre could be tricky because there's an out that could save us a LOT of cap space after this season if he were to prove not to return to form. Dion could be a possibility too but his contract isn't exactly clear on Spotrac.
  16. There wasn't any real interest last offseason coming off a much better year, including that miracle game he had against the Patriots. I'm sure he'll get a gig to compete with somebody in Training Camp somewhere. But I'd be shocked if he garnered much interest.
  17. It's the lack of production, the lack of getting open, and there were some mistakes (like a poster listed above) that caused him to end up in the doghouse and be a healthy scratch in our last game and a couple other times down the stretch. If McKenzie was performing well, we would have never brought Cole Beasley back and given him reps that should have went to McKenzie. It isn't "hate" so much as it's a business. We just signed Deonte Hardy who the team views as an upgrade and Khalil Shakir is ready to step up. Those two aren't going anywhere and there's no need to have 3 Slot WR's on one team. Combine that with the fact that McKenzie would clear 2.5 million on the salary cap and it's really a no brainier.
  18. I'm not for or against the idea of Singletary coming back. I'm simply aware of the RB market situation and the emphasis this regime places on bringing back their own and team chemistry. Motor is one of the most popular guys in the locker room. And we've always carried 4 RB's on the roster. Wouldn't shock me to see Hines taking Taiwan's spot being a core Special Teamer who provides more on offense than Taiwan did.
  19. I'd be shocked at this point if Singletary doesn't come back on a team friendly deal. RB's aren't banking their estimated values to begin with and he's running out of options with the amount of them that have been signed already. Whether simply running back what we had last season is the right move or not is debatable. But I think the writing is on the wall that that's what we're going to do.
  20. "Too much duplicate" is exactly what I was thinking. There's absolutely no need to have 3 slot WR's. To me, it's obvious. Cut McKenzie and save 2.5 million. We need all the help we can get right now and Harty/Shakir have that position covered.
  21. I can understand *hoping* for one of those guys. But saying it's not successful unless we do is kind of ridiculous. Given that we went into this being 18+ million over the cap and having 24 players with their deals up - simply getting back Poyer and filling as many holes as possible with players who have even the potential to be an upgrade from who they're replacing is a massive success. I didn't see a situation where we wouldn't regress given where we were at. Expecting multiple big name signings was always ridiculous.
  22. Sure seems that way, doesn't it? Unless someone pays him, at this rate he'll have no choice but to come back to us on a team friendly deal.
  23. Oh, for sure. We at the very least need to bring back David Quessenberry or sign an equivalent FA to replace his spot on the roster. But a player like La'el Collins or a 1st Round pick probably isn't in the cards as it would be an outright replacement of Spencer Brown, which I don't see them doing yet.
