  1. I agree with this. Our idea of a "heavy set" always seemed to be to motion the TE into the backfield and then have him essentially play the role of a FB. But it rarely seemed successful, particularly with Knox motioning into the backfield, because he doesn't really do much at the point of attack. I've always been a fan of bringing in an extra tackle once in a while and even passing out of it (I've seen NE do that quite a bit in the past), just to keep the defense off balance. My one criticism of Daboll is that he seems married to certain sets too much, which eliminates creativity.
  2. How does anyone go from being an NFL head coach to an offensive line coach in college (albeit the best team in college)? How does he go home and tell the wife that career move? "Hey honey, you won't believe the great opportunity that just came my way today! I'm even going to get my own designated parking spot!"
  3. 63.2% of all statistics are totally useless. Seriously, who cares about statistical ratings. Winning games is all that matters and that is what Josh knows how to do. What was Jim McMahon's passer rating with the '85 Bears?
  4. I'm pretty sure there is a law that says you can't wear a sweatshirt commemorating a musical to bring you good luck for a football game. At least there should be such a law. Post your address and I'll send you some of my Bills good karma gear.
  5. Exactly. It has been an inexplicable weakness for many years, with different coordinators and different personnel. Was always particularly noticeable when we played against NE and Gronk, but with other teams as well. It's probably been both a scheme and personnel issue, but we have never really been able to solve the riddle. I think our overall team success this year has made the problem less glaringly noticeable, but it still seems to persist. We don't have a big nickel safety and while I think Edmunds is probably the best-suited 'backer to cover a good tight end, when we're in zone coverage and given his position, he's not going to be the guy. If I knew the answer I'd be interviewing with NFL teams right now instead of posting here.
  6. I'm confused, are we debating Cam Lewis or linguistics?
  7. REALLY!!??? You're gonna cancel my Subway commercials just because of this? But I'm a GENIUS!!!!!
  8. FanDuel must really be hurting financially...I mean they couldn't pull up the back of a pickup truck or even have a step ladder for him to jump from? They make him climb a tree? WTH! Has anyone seen any Bills Mafia jump out of a tree to smash a table?
  9. During the early 90's my then girlfriend gave me a large framed poster which was an abstract painting showing Andre Reed escaping a tackle from a Dolphins' player. Title of the print was "Andre Reed Squishin' the Fish". We saw it hanging behind a bar on Abbott before a game and after I admired it, she went back to the bar a few days later (a 3 hour drive) and convinced the bar owner to sell it to her to give to me for Christmas. Turns out she wasn't a keeper but I still have the framed print! Love it! No comments please about what she did for the bar owner to sell it to her!
  10. I have a legitimate question and I apologize if someone else has already said it and I missed it, but why is Stefon Diggs not even mentioned in the MVP talk? I realize it's largely become a QB award, but dude is having a monster year and I think a strong argument can be made that JA's success and the team's success this year is related to his presence and play. Critical third downs, critical touchdowns, drawing coverage away from other guys, in addition to the overall production.
  11. Compare that to the stuff Freddie Kitchens was calling yesterday for the Giants. On 4th down and in field goal position with a close score and the field goal team out there, spread everyone out and have the holder/punter go back into shot gun and throw the ball incomplete in the end zone to a lineman! The Pegulas need to either (a) make Daboll a rich man; or (b) have photos of him in a "compromising position".
  12. Can someone explain to me why they still have the train horn blaring at home games this year without any fans there? Have the Bills done studies which show that it acts as a Pavlovian bell for the defensive players to respond in a certain way? I don't get it. I've also seen in some stadiums where the Jumbotron is displaying "NOISE" during defensive series and there is no one in the stadium. And coaches with masks on who still cover their face with their playsheet so no one can read their lips. It's hysterical!
  13. Yeah I really don't get why anyone cares that much about what uniform color they wear. As long as they don't look like the Steelers throwback uni's, who cares?
  14. Speaking of Tight Ends, did anyone notice the quiet contribution Lee Smith made to the running game on Sunday? Dude looked like he has put some weight on and he was certainly throwing it around the few times I noticed him. While he did not get called for any penalties, unfortunately he has a tendency to stay scrappy after the whistle blows with a lot of unnecessary pushing and shoving. While I didn't do any kind of analysis showing a correlation between him being on the field and positive rushing yards, I did notice him on several pays blocking effectively.
  15. During one of the early plays in the game I said to my wife "I wish No. 54 could make a tackle on somebody!" Later in the game when he had the sack and strip, she says to me very quietly, "isn't that the guy you were complaining about in the 1st quarter?" Nothing beats watching the game with your wife.
  16. Drought, as long as AZ has De'Andre Hopkins, they have a passing game. Tre will have to bring his A game, as he usually does. What concerns me most about AZ is whether our D can stop their QB from running on us even if we have good coverage.
  17. I don't know what was worse, listening to McVay's 20 watt bulb fiance or watching Anthony Lynn drop cigar ashes on the food he was grilling. Best scene was the reaction of the Chargers' tight end when he was released! "You've got to be f...in kidding me!"
  18. Next time JetsFan20 is going to start a discussion with the question: "Would you rather be asked a really stupid question or would you rather be asked an intelligent question?"
  19. I would chip in for "TIDOY Stadium" (This Is Definitely Our Year)
  20. Okay let's talk some football...do you think the refs are going to have to carry Clorex with them and wipe down the ball after every play? (I too am kidding)
  21. If anyone is interested in a great, well-written book about the intersection between sports and politics, read "Something In The Air" by Richard Hoffer. It is about the 1968 Mexico City Olympics (remember the Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised fist salute on the podium?). It gives an interesting historical perspective on what we are all talking about here, set in a year which was about as turbulent as it gets, and gives great insights into what it is like to be an athlete in politically tumultuous times.
  22. There is literally not a single player on this roster who I don't love. It's been a long time since I could say that. Every season there was always one or several players who would predictably drive me nuts with dumb penalties, lack of effort, being out of position, not turning their head around for the ball, etc., etc. But with this team it is nearly impossible to pick a favorite player...there are so many who play with heart, who play smart, seem to be great teammates and have fun out there. Can't wait for this season!
