eball I agree with you. I'm saying anyone can take stats and make predictions from them. But if you watch the game and watch the player and know something about football you wouldn't necessarily make those predictions. I'm fond of saying "34.7% of all statistics are totally meaningless".

On the other hand, look at his 2017 and 2018 stats and tell me what you see. Passer ratings above 100, high TD to low INT percentages, etc. So which years are the real Carson Wentz? You can't say he has never been good. He just hasn't been good the last two years and I'm willing to bet that can't all be put on him.

Schein started his career here in the Cuse and has always been a bit of a Bills "homer". I'm guessing he has followed the Bills a bit more closely as a result and seems to have better insights than some of the other so-called experts. His schtick makes him seem kind of goofy on the surface but he's always been a decent analyst of the game and sports in general.

Gunner, when you are always running for your life it gets into your head, clean pocket or not. I think good coaching and increased confidence will fix that. Frank will put him into a situation where he will be able to make quick decisions and get the ball out. You can't deny Wentz has the physical tools. I don't disagree with you that he almost never looked good last couple of years, but I don't think you can take one statistic and extrapolate it to make the conclusion that he has no chance to be good again. You could pick some of JA's first and second year stats to make the same kind of dire predictions and look what he has done. Ryan Tannehill is also the poster boy for what a change of scenery, better coaching and better support can do for your career.

I think Carson Wentz will most benefit from a "reset" especially with his former coach Frank Reich and a good line in front of him. He has the physical talent and (I think) the intelligence. He had no support at the Eagles on any level (coaching, line, running game, receivers, defense) and I think he will regain his confidence in a short time.

What many overlook when discussing TE or any piece of the offense is whether he is a legitimate "threat" to the defense, which demands that the defense devotes coverage accordingly. Even though he is statistically our 4th or 5th target, objectively speaking, irrespective of whether you like him as a developing TE or not, to date he is not a threat to defenses. His presence on the field does not command a lot of respect from defenses and does not dictate coverage to the potential benefit of our other weapons. Kelce, Kittle and Gronk (more so in his prime) are TE's who are threats and can dictate coverage. So if he is not a threat to be open and consistently catch the ball, he better be one hell of a blocker, which young Dawson is not.

Does "Tight End University" have some version of an affirmative action quota or something like that for Dawson to have been accepted?

I went to the game the last time Bills traveled to Jacksonville. Not much of a tailgate scene and parking is scattered all over with a lot of people parking in multilevel parking garages. There were quite a few people being pedaled to stadium in bicycle-pulled rickshaws, which was pretty funny. Can you imagine that in Orchard Park? Back then they had huge sections covered with tarps and there was no one in the stadium. Good Bills win in front of mostly Bills fans. We had tickets in the lower end zone but moved and sat in a mostly empty section at the 50 yd line about 20 rows up and we could literally put our feet on the empty seats in front of us. Expect it will be a little different this year with Lawrence at QB.

According to some, he's also great on Special Teams. Heard him on NFL Network the other morning (being interviewed by world-class blowhard Charlie Weiss) and he sounds like a versatile player who was under-utilized in the passing game but also sounds intelligent and loves football. Wouldn't surprise me if Bills had interest in him.

I don't know, I would have liked Mike Gisecki as a rookie. Not too shabby. But honestly, I'm hard pressed to think of another rookie TE in recent memory who impressed.

I would be very concerned about having a big, hungry D line guy like Star working at the concession stand and the impact it would have on profitability.

Just to be clear, when I posted above that he is the "real deal", I have no idea whether he is first round talent or not because obviously that involves how he compares to every other draft eligible player at every position. I don't watch that much college football to make that kind of analysis. I do think he has the talent to play in the NFL and I do think he would fit into the Bills' defense.

I've watched this kid alot and he's the real deal. Good size, great athleticism and speed and a solid tackler. Has a good nose for the ball. Was a standout on a subpar defense and played well against a lot of good ACC talent.

I get your first point in terms of pass protection, but even in pass pro you don't always have the same guy lined up over you because of rotations, stunts, blitzes, etc. On your second point which I've bolded, isn't the same true with defensive linemen, i.e., that the starters are supposedly better than their backups? I'm really convinced that this all falls into the category of "because that's always the way it's been and that's always the way we've done it", but I would really love to hear the arguments against doing it.

Was listening to NFL Radio this morning and they had on a former Giants defensive lineman who now trains NFL defensive line prospects. He said he trains them to be versatile because of the amount of defensive line rotation that occurs in today's game. We see that with the Bills and probably every other NFL team. My question, which I have wondered about for a long time, is why teams do not rotate offensive lineman to keep them fresh? I know there is the whole thing about chemistry, etc., which doesn't matter when a guy goes down and a replacement comes in. But it makes me wonder whether having some offensive line rotation to keep guys fresh during the game would help with run blocking, downfield blocking with screens and other short passes, etc. Does anyone have any insight into why teams don't do this on any regular basis?
