Would you today trade places with Texans fans?
Nextmanup replied to Pine Barrens Mafia's topic in The Stadium Wall
I voted "NO" but that's only because it was a poorly worded question. No, I sure as hell do not want to think of myself as a fan of the Houston Texans. But that's not really what the OP is driving at. He's basically asking: "Which franchise has a brighter future right now: Buffalo or Houston?" The answer to that may well be Houston. -
Back when it was announced that Denver had hired Sean Payton as their new HC, a big name NFL pundit whom I can't remember (may have been Peter King from SI) said something to the effect of: "Sean is a good enough coach that simply being on the team will be good for 1 win per season that the Broncos otherwise wouldn't have." At that moment, I thought, "If that's true, McDermott has to be worth 1 to 2 LOSSES per year, simply by being the head coach. This thread documents that I wasn't really wrong.

The less intelligent you are, the more you are inclined to see the world as a simple to understand, black and white universe. In reality, it's all a complex shading of gray. Our problems DEFINITELY fall on Dorsey. They also DEFINITELY fall on Josh, and several OTHER factors as well. The "broken offense" will continue with the new OC. I'm not sure much will even be different with Brady. The good news is there is still A LOT OF FOOTBALL left to be played this year, and it stays a broken ugly mess from now until the finish line, we might just be able to move on from McD.

Brothers don’t shake hands, brothers gotta hug

So then how do you account for the McDermott/Daboll greeting after the Giants game? 🤔 -
I have solidly beat. I remember the garbage this franchise put on the field for most of the '70s and '80s. This team ripped my soul out for the first time (I think)...losing on the road in San Diego in the playoffs, January 1981, after we won the AFC East, which was a BIG DEAL at that time. Honestly, all I have ever known is heartache with the Bills....which is why I am going nowhere, and am good at dealing with it at my age now. 😄 You're just not much of a Sabres/hockey fan, that's all. I didn't miss a single Sabres game throughout the drought (still ongoing of course) and that takes into an account a LOT OF UNWATCHABLE HOCKEY. LOL You're a little behind with the Sabres and their stench. That went away maybe as much as two full seasons ago... Disappointing start to this season, but we still have a solid shot to pull together and make the playoffs. Anyway, it's the same at my Sabres/hockey forums. Everyone there is crazy for the Sabres, but can take or leave the Bills. Everyone has their own interests. It's not a big deal.

Some thoughts re AFC, JA, McBeane and Injuries
Nextmanup replied to jahnyc's topic in The Stadium Wall
This should not have been the year we won the AFC championship. I called for a regression this year going back to the end of last year. Lots of people saw it coming. And now Bills fans are going to assume a miracle comeback because Dorsey was sacrificed to the football gods. Ain't going to happen; our offensive problems go way beyond Dorsey's ineptitude. What happens from now until the end of the season is a critical crossroads for this franchise. We are going to have a LOT of personnel changes in the next 1 or 2 years anyway, and we may be retooling the team with a new regime as well. As always, it comes down to Pegula. Would love to know where he is on his patience meter with McD. -
Clarissa Thompson admits to fabricating sideline reports.
Nextmanup replied to Gregg's topic in The Stadium Wall
The entire concept of the "sideline reporter" should be done away with...unless it's an actual journalist who is only gathering real information relevant to the game. Usually this comes down to giving updates on injured players who have left the game. The rest is garbage and part of the garbage way sports is televised in the USA. -
McDermott weird comments about Josh Allen
Nextmanup replied to HappyDays's topic in The Stadium Wall
He got rid of the DC and then the OC. He knows he's next. He damned well should be uneasy. If we look bad enough to round out the season, he may not be back. -
The concept of 1 step back, 3 forward too sophisticated for you boys?
-
If you want to help Josh, sneak some food down to him during the pre-game warmups... He doesn't eat on game days which could explain a thing or two.

TNF: Bengals vs Ravens - Who are we rooting for?
Nextmanup replied to Einstein's topic in The Stadium Wall
More losses also slightly increases odds that McD is gone at end of year, so there's an ever better reason to cheer for the Jets. I don't think there's much chance he goes, but if the season ending is ugly enough, maybe. -

There's only one thing that can save this season now...
Nextmanup replied to BillsPride12's topic in The Stadium Wall
I thought the OP was going to propose that our problems will be solved with Haiku. LOL -
I just read it and didn't find it very interesting. He talked to Dorsey and said Dorsey is very "up" and he's taking it well; he'll land on his feet. McDermott has the staff that believes in him and they have the tools to regroup and get things together. He still claims he took the year off b/c he went through "too much" in his final year and didn't know he could do it again. Says he does not regret taking the year off and thinking about things, though he does miss the boys. Kind of a "rah rah" fluff piece IMO.

I am not a fan of the word "culture" with sports; I think it's meaningless nonsense. Sports fans LOVE to discuss lots of meaningless nonsense. My favorite is: "We just didn't want it bad enough." Anyway, of course McDimwit needs to go; some of us were on this 2 years ago or more.... He will do everything he possibly can to save his skin and keep his job. Our future rests in the hands of one man: Terry Pegula. Only he knows where he stands with McD right now and how ready he is to fire his ass at the end of the season.

No way! Terrible idea.

If There's No 12th Defender, is Dorsey Still Employed??
Nextmanup replied to theRalph's topic in The Stadium Wall
If we don't lose the game against Denver, FOR SURE Dorsey still has a job. Which does make you ask what was being accomplished by the firing, and why. Scapegoat. The beauty is that McDimwit has no one left to blame at this point. Next change will be McD out the door. -
Everyone and his brothers has pointed out--a lot--that we are much more productive with Josh under center as opposed to in the shotgun. Let's see if Brady taps into that one single thing and makes a difference with it. If he doesn't, we'll know to expect nothing new from him.
-
I'm definitely hoping for a McD firing, it's what's keeping me engaged.
-
Boy, is this true. It's a huge part of why, as a team, we always have horrid YAC stats. When most guys catch balls from Josh, they are standing at a dead stop. Actually reminds me of Tyrod in that regard.
-
That game was a microcosm of all these McDermott-isms we have been suffering through for years. Of course, you have to be able to evaluate his decisions as mistakes and understand what's going on and why. Lots of folks here can't do that, so they think he's actually good.
-
It doesn't work that way. You don't get to judge coaching decisions based on the outcome of plays. You can only judge a decision at the time it was made. People have been talking all day about this idiotic decision by McDermott, precisely because it inherently puts the Bills defense in a vulnerable position, and opens the door for a good coach/QB to exploit you. It was on its face the wrong decision at the time the decision was made.
-
Pretty sure McDermott tries to/wants to win all the games....but some you end up losing anyway. Not sure we are bad enough to lose out though. I have us at 8-9 I think.
