PFF Refocused Week 1 - Bills vs Jets
ngbills replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am actually positive. I just think Josh and Bills can be much better. This game is not the mountain top but just somewhere about mid mountain. As the season goes we will see Josh not having to work as hard to score points. That is all. The offense scored and was productive but it did not go as smoothly as it will. That is the good part about being a good team now...you can not be at your best and still beat bad and average teams. Need to take it up a notch vs KC and BAL. -

No no no. Watch the film. That ball is placed in the right spot and he is gone. He had beaten the coverage and split the safeties and was running past them. He had to dive for the ball instead of catching in stride and taking it to the house. You dont even need All 22 to see this one. -

Here is what I said. How is this talking out of my behind.I said it is finding the balance of the two. I felt and it is my opinion that the Bills were not as strong on the scripted portion of the plays as they would have wanted. Yes, of course you take this game. But in a game vbs a better team they dont let you beat them as much with those types of plays. The second half you saw even the Jets defend Allen better. It is a plus to have a QB like Allen that can make something out of nothing. But you plan for the something not the nothing. And I never said anything about 100% passing. I said his stats look better than his play. He lit it up early and then struggled a bit. He will learn and get better. I think this will not be one of his best games of the year but more of a mediocre one when all is said and done. That is being positive not negative. Yes and no. We are mostly casual fans on here so I know this will not happen. But...watch the film and it was not as good of a performance as just the stats show. Not just the fumbles and couple of missed passes. Still too many plays that turn into improvisation which is good at times, but too much is a QB that still struggling a bit with reads and decisions. I guarantee you the coaches and Josh are watching films and even on a play were he scrambles one way and then goes another for a 22 yard run they are saying look at Diggs here and this is when you should have thrown the ball etc. They now you dont win consistently playing that way. In a big game that 22 yard run turns into a 10 yard loss or a bad pass attempt on the run or a fumble. It is finding that balance of scripted vs improv. -
MMQB: Why the Bills are where they are

Is it the the people who scrutinize? Or that anyone who scrutinizes or appears to scrutinize is attacked. This board is so sensitive to anything possibly being said in a negative way. Only rainbows and butterflies allowed... -
Disagree on the bolded. But I call it a solid B. Grading on a scale of how good I expect him to be and the Bills this year. designed passes stayed pass plays - which showed me that maybe he’s done a lot of work on going through progressions. (Decent number of plays he turned into scrambles; Without seeing film hard to say if many of the checkdowns were right decision or not making the open throw.) Great decision making overall I thought. How many third down throws did he make that were well placed a yard or two past the marker? How many plays did Allen make where you asked, “Why on Earth did you decide to do THAT, Josh”? For me, barely any. (Not many but a few second half wtf moments.)

What is the word on Tre? Thought there some questions on if he was hurt? Have not seen anything and not listed on the end of game in jury report. He missed a few snaps in the game but maybe that was just rest him.

Yesterday's game. You said it - one game. As I said - Josh has the well deserved reputation based on his NFL and College stats as being inaccurate. He needs to earn a new reputation. One game does not change that. Do you think it should? Nobody questions this doesn't happen. Difference is this is showing examples of guys that have won the MVP and are proven passers making bad passes vs a guy that has yet to prove that he can be an accurate passer. Its like the guy that is late to work a few times a week is late and says but everyone is late once in awhile. Yes, true but for them its the exception not the norm. Allen needs to earn a reputation and until then it is what he is.
-
I would add in guys like Vick, Vince Young, Tebow, and heck even going back to Flutie. It is proven tough to sustain a long career as a running or dual threat QB.
-
That is too rational. Not allowed on these boards. Only 100% positive and no questioning any decisions allowed.

MMQB: Why the Bills are where they are

Did anyone see the Ravens game. Jackson is terrible. The guy is not a real QB. Not sure why he gets so much props and Allen gets bashed for throwing for 300+. -

Good point here. I think this is what many that are complaining about Josh running so much are talking about. This is the NFL and a QB taking so many hits take a toll. Not to mention concussion rules - that could have him out a few weeks just like that. I think because Josh is a bigger guy he plays more aggressively in his running style but he needs to learn to be smarter with it. Save those for when you need that extra inch not on every run.

Hilarious. -
Why is it so hard for folks to have a normal discussion? It has to be flipped to it being about Allen, something personal or we won so shut up. I dont have anything to add about Oliver because I did not notice him. I would have to go back and rewatch the game to see what how he played. Maybe played very well and was handling double teams all game. I dont know. But why can someone not ask this without it being some attack on the Bills. So sensitive.

I dont think you have a good grasp of football. It is not only the outcome that matters. If you were sitting in the film room today with Josh and his coaches is this what you would be saying? "Come on guys, we won and Josh was super cool. Look at the play when he ran left and then back and then spun around two times before jumping over two people and going 40 yards for the TD." They know that wont always happen. You dont build a game plan around that. Yes, it is a skillset that factors into what you can do as an Offense but you still want designed plays. -
I think part of this is lack of pre-season and other real game like practice, etc. That leads to more broken play QB scrambles which tend to be the longer QB runs. You will always see that more often until offenses get on the same page and timing is down.

Exactly. I think you want that skillset to be the insurance policy to bail you out rather than your bread and butter. With the Bills it is still tilting more in the direction of Allen and "Superhero" ball. Josh is always going to have that "super power" but you want him to not rely on it so much. -
That does not mean win one game. It is win for the season or the long haul.

This is true as well. You play what the defense is giving you. Then the CB inevitably tries to cheat the dig or hitch and the WR takes it deep. This will happen in time as Allen becomes a complete QB. -
Is this a playoff team? It is called higher expectations. I hope the players are the same way, thinking about all the plays they left on the field and not simply happy beating a inferior team. The goal is to beat the Ravens, Chiefs and other contenders. The offense is not going to do that playing the way they did. Those teams will defend you better and not allow you beat you Superhero style. We saw that vs Houston in the playoffs and most of our losses.

PFF Refocused Week 1 - Bills vs Jets
ngbills replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Agreed. Saying that Allen suffers from lack of YAC while others benefit would be like some conspiracy theory. YAC comes from ball placement, timing and making the right read. This is the NFL. Any WR that catches the ball with room to run is going to make that play. Yes, some are clearly better than others but it is not as drastic as some try to imply. Like the Bills WR all just fall down or run out of bounds. We have seen tons of examples of a Bills catch being made but if the ball is thrown a bit better the guy picks up extra yards vs diving for a ball, etc. -

YAC comes from accuracy. The pass to Beasley that was off target was a ton of lost YAC. Watch the tape and dont just reject anything you dont like to hear. Many throws were checkdowns. Nothing wrong with that. That is why it took 46 attempts to hit 300 yds and total of 179 air yards on 33 completions. Watch the Ravens game - almost half the attempts for 275 yards. He had 202 air yards on only 20 completes. -
I do agree that expectations should be higher for this team and Josh Allen. If this is a team expected to go 6-10 and Allen is in year 1-2 then I give him an A. But that is not this team. This is Allen in year 3. I would give it a B and give him the benefit of the doubt in that the team had a big lead so he lost some focus. But again, his stats look good and the score was in our favor. But when the team watches the film there is gonna be a ton of critique. Too many broken plays. Yes, they turned positive but you dont want your success coming from broken plays turned positive. I just dont think we should watch this game and think we can win every week like that on offense. That is what an A grade would imply.

With long term memory loss. Taylor hit more numbs than Allen in this game.
