A few Random Thoughts After the Ravens Game
ngbills replied to PoundingDog's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would be 99% sure that in film or even on the sidelines Babich asked why he would still try that blitz and tell him he should have dropped into coverage. NFL players have played a ton of snaps. I doubt this is the first time there was a quick snap when a guy was disguising a blitz and had to abandon the blitz. If not we would see this every Sunday. I can’t think of a game I saw a guy blitzing from that deep. -
Dion Dawkins restructured- $7.8M cap space

Trading 3 1st rounders for Jabrill Peppers. Bishop and Rapp had a bad practice yesterday so they think we need a safety. -

Bishop should know better and adjust. Why blitz from where he was after the quick snap? He needed to adjust his assignment and drop into coverage. -
The Ugly The Bad The Good... The Bills Defense v Ravens Thoughts
ngbills replied to corta765's topic in The Stadium Wall
The D looked like this in preseason as well. The response was its just preseason. After week 1 many want to say its just because it was the Ravens. I fully expect beating up some week teams as usual. But come playoffs we have to be able to at least compete on defense and not rely on mistake free play from the offense. -
Bills sign a new punter!! Welcome Cameron Johnston
ngbills replied to NewEra's topic in The Stadium Wall
And yet this is who the Bills signed to be the punter? Why would you even bring him in. I am glad they made the decision to move on, but why was he even in the building in the first place with that glowing bio? -

Not sure they would do this type of thing over punter money. We have a punter problem but let’s wait until the season starts to save a few bucks if that new punter doesn’t work out either. -

Hard to believe he is punting all training camp etc was any different than in the game. Why wait until after week 1. -
Jabrill Peppers cryptic tweet (now heading to Pittsburgh)
ngbills replied to Herc11's topic in The Stadium Wall
Pointless conversation - but in the discussion of signing Peppers people brought up he doesnt play special teams. Didnt realize but the past few years and through out his career he has played a ton of special teams. Tomlin even mentioned that they signed him for his versatility on defense and ability to cover kicks on special teams. Would have made even more sense. -

Sucks. I hope we dont regret this. Still believe he could have helped this team. Oh well. -

Rapp looked like a football player that did not have a very good game. I am not a Rapp fan at all, but he is best safety on the Bills. Bishop looked like a guy that did not belong on the field. He looks confused out there and plays tentative. He looks too small to be a safety. I just dont see anything that points to him just being a guy that needs reps. Hopefully I am wrong. -
I dont know if our interior OL is really built for that. I know it was successful a lot but much of that is Josh being a big dude. I think teams are getting better at guessing if he will go low or high or just pushing the line back so Josh doesnt even have that option.
-
I still wonder why we dont roll Josh out more on two point conversations or other short yard age plays. Gives him the chance to run if there is a hole and if not you have crossing routes so he can thread the needle.

Other than some nice plays from Oliver that D was a disaster. And I dont want to hear the "what can you do" thing. These were not unique plays, but literally Henry running straight through the gap and our guys getting beat and the second level taking bad angles or unable to make tackles. It looked like Pee Wee football at times when you have the one kid that just runs straight down the field. Should not happen that many times in an NFL games. On passing plays how many times did we see blown coverage or Flowers running wide open? Wont even mention the Bishop blitz from 20 yards deep. I can be ok with Lamar doing his crazy stuff or even guys making contested catches. But we saw more Henry run straight and Flowers running wide open than the spectacular. On offense its hard to complain when you put up over 40 and comeback to win the game. The only issue which is something we saw a lot last year is when Brady seems to get in an ultra conservative mode with the WR screens and dump offs. He has to do a better job mixing that stuff up. And some of the play calling was suspect on the 2 point conversations and other short yardage plays. But we did what was needed to score enough to win.

This Bishop tape is going to be terrible. Agreed. I dont see any of those traits and it does not look like he has added any muscle at all. Is he in the weight room at all? The guy looks like skin and bones and he does not play very fast.

Bills game plan on O and D. They had all offseason to be ready for this game and that’s what they put together? Bal could do essentially anything on O - hand off to Henry to the house, Lamar around the edge to the house, flowers running wide open. We needed the fumble and then harbaugh getting cute. On O I don’t know what the plan was early. Way too much of all that misdirection. Wr screens like we have a qb that can’t throw downfield. Not until we were in panic mode did the O open up and we saw the results.

How is running that play from the 1 different than 2? Confusing decisions there. -

Just sign Peppers already. Would rather see what he can do in this defense than Sammy Franklin Jr.

Christian Wilkins released for kissing team mate

Would be interesting. If he can play and not be a weirdo. -
I was thinking about the past three years and see it different. 2025 Hairston is hurt and who knows when he will contribute. Sanders and Jackson may get rotational snaps. 2024 Coleman and Bishop are both fringe starters. They don’t progress this year and both could be upgraded next season. Carter is out for the year and was fighting to see the field anyway. 2023 Torrence is the best pick of these years in terms of being a legit starter. Kincaid has not been anywhere close to what he was expected to be. Williams is just a jag. My point was this is a Super Bowl favorite and not one of these picks from the last three years has been a home run or even a triple. Mostly single and doubles. Maybe Kincaid or Coleman break out this year. A legit start would be make this team that much more scary.
