I know this has been the narrative but is it true?
What are the bloated contracts they stripped? Watkins was on a rookie deal. Darby was on a cheap deal. Dareus was underperforming his deal so yes. Ragland and Seymour were not on big deals.
Woods signed a deal for 5 / $34M. I am not sure I would pay that for him but he would have been our best WR until Diggs and is still in the Beasley / Brown pay range.
Gilmore - Signed a big deal but has also been one of the best in the league.
Goodwin - This was not about money. He had no role with the Bills.
Robey-Coleman - Cheap and not about money.
Gillislee - He was cheap and we ended up signing Ivory for more, so not sure about this.
The only real issues were Taylor, Dareus and Glenn. Most of the other contracts were non-issues. You get rid of those three guys and it changes the cap situation fast. Other moves were more about getting their own guys.
This team has made progress. Whether it has been fast enough is debatable. Obviously any team will have an easier time beating bad teams than good teams. The concern with McD Bills is that can look very uncompetitive and over matched vs good teams.
Bills based on how they look and not just scores:
Not better than KC, TEN, BAL or PIT.
Very close with CLE, IND and LAV
I think it will be Bills battling it out with MIA and NE for a playoff spot.
Just like the score of this game. What is on paper does not tell the whole story. Clowney is a disruptive force. We have no one like that on this team. Watch Clowney play and tell me how many times he is getting manhandled and pushed 5 yards downfield.
Here is what is even more scary:
We have $45M in cap space dedicated to Addison, Murphy, Hughes, Butler, Jefferson. Honestly they all could be replaced...
A plan to force the run does not include giving up 6+ yards per run. Why even risk passing if you can run it for 6 at will. Takes 12-15 plays and 6-8 minutes off the clock. But on a slippery night the chiefs take that all the time and avoid any injuries.
KC led 13-10 and here are its next three possesions:
82 yard drive for TD eating 8 minutes of clock
75 yard drive for FG eating 5 minutes of clock
75 yard drive for FG eating 5 minutes of clock
So 3 drives going basically the entire field and eating 18 minutes of clock. That is not a good defense. Sorry.
KC knew before the game and was even more pleasantly surprised that they could beat us running the ball. Easy day at the office for them. Mahomes and the WR basically had a bye week. Meanwhile our D looks like it needs a nap and long vacation. Our O is back to looking more like a gadget broken play offense of prior years than what we saw week 2-4.
Have to disagree. KC only scored 26 because they ran the ball 1000 times and bled the clock. The Defense did not stop them it was just a slow paced game due to KC having long drives all game long.
This team is really bad right now. We wont beat anyone if we cant stop anything. Run up the gut 5 yards. Run outside 7 yards. Play action pass 15 yards. All day. Bad.
I can only assume the coaches see him in practice. But in game action his kicks are all over the place. Rarely is it right through the uprights. Seems like he has leg strength but accuracy issues.
