  1. I wonder if Milano doesn’t eventually take snaps from Taron Johnson/Marlowe/Neal as the big nickel and then let Edmunds and Klein be the other two LB’s. Then in the draft I’d look at Zaven Collins, LB from Tulsa, 6’5” 250 could be a perfect fit for the role that Lorenzo Alexander had here the past few years.
  2. A few thoughts/questions I have about some guys in this years class: 1) I think Owusu-Koramoa (LB- Norte Dame) will be gone well before our pick, and I don’t see Beane moving up much this year. If anything I see our cap situation as a reason to move back and get more picks. He would be a great fit for our system but I just don’t see him getting past about pick #22. 2) Could Zaven Collins (LB, Tulsa) be a candidate to take over the Lorenzo Alexander role? He Would probably need to be selected Round 1 considering how his stock is rising. 3) Could Hamsah Nasirildeen or Bubba Bolden be candidates for the “Buffalo Nickel” role that Buscaglia & Fairburn spent a lot of last off-season discussing as some felt Kyle Dugger was a well liked prospect of the Bills as well. 4) I believe they’ll continue to address offensive line in the draft, specifically with the Ford injury and possibility they could lose Feliciano and Daryl Williams next season as well. If they still believe Ford is better off at guard, they’ll need to address tackle (I think Daryl Williams is gonna price himself out of our range).
  3. I like spotrac a lot. For draft stuff I do like TDN. Their mock draft machine is pretty cool. If you have the premium you can make trades etc. I really do wish there was an NFL site similar to what the NHL has in “Capfriendly”. Really cool sight where you can basically pick a team and perform hypothetical trades/signings/create players, etc etc. I know with the NFL’s salary system it might be more difficult but I really believe whoever would create it could get people to pay for that kind of product if it was available.
  4. I think people are reading the Morse situation wrong. They felt good with Feliciano at center and wanted to give Morse more time to heal from his concussion without saying as much. I believe this week we’ll see Ford and Feliciano at the guard spots with Morse at center. They also like to play games like that so the other team needs to do more homework and might not necessarily know who’s playing where. They’ll take any advantage they can get.
  5. A lot of this depends on who they bring back, and what they do in free agency. They don’t have a ton of space but can create some cutting expensive players (Vernon Butler, Lee smith, Tyler Matakevich) or renegotiating contracts to push money down the road (Morse or Diggs), or extend guys with only one more year left in their deals (John Brown, Micah Hyde, Addison). I think the offense has its key components. The needs there (even if they lose Williams) aren’t crazy. I do believe they’ll bring back Feliciano. I do think they keep Brown around and even extend him to lower his 2021 cap #. -I believe they need one starting offensive lineman, and one depth player. Could be a tackle or guard. Many here aren’t fans, but I think they believe Cody Ford gives them inside/outside flexibility. I think he and Feliciano were a decent combo on the right side last season and we’re good for the run game together. I see them having faith that Bates can become the swing tackle and Boettger will be ready for a full time reserve role on the inside. -They need a running back with speed in order to make defenses defend the edge when we run the ball. Singletary and Moss are nice, and the run games lack of success is not entirely on them, but we need speed in our backfield badly. -The biggest need might be at tight end but I wonder how much they fee the need to incorporate one, how much they like Kroft, and how much faith they have that Knox can still develop. I don’t think it’s a 1st round pick need for them, but I could see a 2nd round or later pick used if they find the right guy. I also wonder if they could use Hodgins in a lot of the ways they want to use Knox as a split out Tight End that basically ends up being a big slot receiver. Hodgins has good hands and a reputation as a red zone target from college. Defense: -they need a 1-Tech. Star should be coming back, so that helps. But they need someone behind him as well. I fully expect their DT’s next year to be Oliver, Lotulelei, H. Phillips, a cheap UFA backup 1-tech, and Zimmer. Jefferson will return but he’ll be a guy who moves around more (DE/DT) once they figure out the 1-tech issue. Butler will be cut imo. -I don’t expect them to go crazy for an edge rusher. Hughes, Addison, Epenesa & Johnson will return, and Jefferson will likely play a lot more as a LDE. D-Line will basically be: DE: Hughes/Addison/Jefferson/Epenesa 3T-DT: Oliver/Zimmer 1T-DT: Lotulelei/UFA -With Daryl Johnson and Harrison Phillips being the depth that is usually scratched on game days. -At LB they need to add at least one early in the draft. Possibly two. I wonder if they look for a Milano replacement as well as an eventual Lorax replacement as well. Zaven Collins from Tulsa could be a candidate for the Lorenzo Alexander role that Klein is somewhat trying to fill but really can’t. I think Owusu-Koramoah would be a perfect Milano replacement, or addition even if Milano sticks around... but I don’t think he falls to us. -I think they will look for someone to fill that 3rd safety, big nickel role. With Milano hurt it really exposed Taron Johnson in coverage. They need a bigger body who can man up with guys like a Kittle in the slot but also stick with guys like Edelman. Hamsah Nasirildeen is a guy I think that could do that, and also be a candidate to replace Hyde or Poyer long term as well. -At corner I think they do what they usually do. Draft a guy in the mid-late rounds and then sign a couple low key UFA’s. Overall I would rate their needs like so: (how I believe they’ll address it in parentheses) 1. 1-Tech DT (Star L. & UFA backup) 2. Big Nickel/Slot (Draft Early) 3. OL (Draft Early to Mid rounds and UFA) 4. SLB/Passrusher (Draft Early) 5. CB (Draft mid to late rounds) 6. Tight End (Draft mid to late rounds) 7. Speed Back (Draft Late or UFA) I believe it’ll be a defense heavy draft. You’ll see one or two offensive lineman, and maybe a tight end drafted, and the rest of the picks will be defense. Also, their cap being as limited as it will be, I expect them to try to trade down and attempt to get more picks later on in the draft in order to add cheap depth wherever they can.
  6. Does Sweeney’s injury count as a Covid related injury, so that whoever replaced him would be a “Covid Call-up”?
  7. Who cares!!!!! We already got QB1 baby!!!! Just playin, he’s gonna be a top-15 pick.
  8. I think Mahomes is the only player I’d legitimately consider trading for Allen 1v1. Allen has more legitimate upside than any other player in the league, and has shown a clutch ability that is not easily found.
  9. I think it will be bolstering the defense in general. I do believe cam Lewis and Dane Jackson will impress enough, combined with Levi Wallace that they won’t go after a CB in Round 1. I do believe this could be the year they go after a “big nickel”, Nasirildeen could be that guy as one example.
  10. I think they trade down at different spots. Adding more players later will help save cap space. They have enough talent to add later rookies. Beane traded up for Allen and Edmunds, moved up for Ford. And moved a 1 for Diggs. That was done with a relatively solid oversll roster that needed to get “foundational” pieces onto the team. Now that we have guys like Allen, Diggs, Edmunds (he’s struggling this year but I think they believe he’s a cornerstone piece), they can start to move down in drafts in order to get more picks, later on in the draft, that cost less against the cap. More “bang for your buck” so to speak.
  11. One at a time boys and girls. I do think they’ll come out firing against the Chargers though and they’re gonna give Herbert a lot of looks he hasn’t seen.
  12. It was a killer play, but there were a lot of them. Blame for this loss goes all around not only to one player
  13. I think the best thing for him is to get the heck out of there. I see Chicago as a possibility or New Orleans if Winston falters snd Brees retires.
  14. Extend him out for another couple years and save a couple million on 2021 cap space.
  15. A big reason why I believe Beane went out snd got Allen big time playmakers. I believe you are right, at the same time I do agree with the poster you quoted that they need a difference maker on defense. Also, a major reason for our lack of success in defense, imo, is injuries. Star opting out, Milano, Norman/Levi, Tremaine playing hurt, etc etc. Defense relies more on the unit as a whole as opposed to offense, which can rely on certain playmakers taking advantage of matchups. I do think we need another early drafted playmaker. Even if they retain Milano, someone like Owusu-Koramoa would allow them to play more traditional 4-3 with Any one of the 3 linebackers capable of covering slot receivers or tight ends.
  16. Personally I agree with you. I just wonder what Beane and McDermott think. Also, if Daryl Williams keeps playing at this level, I see him getting a long term deal from someone. Jets come to mind as one, but there are about 5-7 teams with a good amount of cap space and OT’s are ALWAYS in high demand. Off-ball injury prone LB’s... not as much, so they might feel they can get better value from Milano at $7M for a year, as opposed to re-signing Williams to a long term 3-4 yr deal worth $10M+ per year.
  17. Cover 1’s Greg Tompsett was on Sports Talk Saturday on WGR this past weekend and gave a good basic idea of what they can/should do for cap space. With roughly 40 players signed on next year, they have about $2M in cap space. They should have about $3.5M-$3.75M to roll over into next year. Which takes the total to $5.5M-$5.75M The easy cuts look to be Butler, Matakevich & Lee Smith. These 3 alone save them about $12.5M. That takes the total to about $18.0-$18.25. There’s also some contract extensions that could be negotiated this off-season, in particular, John Brown, Jerry Hughes and Micah Hyde. Each guys extension could save $2M-$3M on the cap. Let’s say they extend two of them and average $2.5M in savings on each, adding another $5M in cap space. New total would be roughly $23M-$23.5M Lastly they could renegotiate with guys like Morse, Diggs or Addison in order to push some of their cap into the future. I believe this is a last resort for Beane and he won’t do it unless he can’t negotiate extensions with those listed above. Altogether $23.5M should be enough to: 1. Sign our current draft class ($3.5M) 2. Re-Sign about 5 guys around 750K-$1.5M ($5.5M) (guys like EJ Gaines this year, or maybe even a Ty Nsekhe or Tyler Kroft will come cheap this coming season due to the Covid restricted cap space) 3. Re-Sign Feliciano to a Spain-eque deal (3yrs $5Maav, with an out after each year). Leaving us with about $8M-$9M to bring back Milano or Daryl Williams. And that’s with 40 on the roster, 7 draft picks, and another 5 players towards the lower end of the roster pay. I know Milano could get more elsewhere, but I have a feeling they’ll try to bring him back on a 1yr prove it deal around $6M-$7M. His injuries this season, combined with his affinity for the team, and his minimalist personality, tells me that something like this will get done as long as Milano comes back in this last part of the season and contributes.
  18. I think the bye is coming at a great time. Get healthy, and go after it. McDermott knows how to motivate his team and I think they’ll be up for the challenge. One play away from 8-2. We’re not KC level good, but we’re just a notch below I think.
  19. I think the only player I’d do it for is Mahomes. Even in year 3, with how much Allen has progressed, his upside is still even higher that what he’s shown to this point. I believe as he plays more he’ll gain more consistency and really become a force in the league. his combo of Size/Athleticism/Arm Talent/Leadership/Self Awareness gives him a chance to be a better player than just about anyone currently in the league except Mahomes.
  20. I think Williams is gone bc like many said, he’s gonna get paid. I believe Milano will also be gone. The O-Line just looks different with Feliciano. That combined with his flexibility snd Morse’s injury propensity leads me to believe he’ll get a deal slightly above what Spain got. I believe they’ll re-sign Nsekhe to a vet minimum deal, maybe draft a guy late, and let those two, along with Bates battle it out for the RT job next year with Ford as the backup plan if it all goes to hell.
  21. I would love to get Owusu Kormaoah in the 1st to replace Milano. Bubba Bolden or Hamsah Nasirildeen in the 3rd to play the big nickel. and then take a shot in the 5th round on Chris Rumph II to play some of that Lorax role and maybe eventually develop into an edge rusher to spell/replace Hughes. I do believe they need to go big on defense in this years draft. They have a lot of the big pieces on offense taken care of (QB, LT, C, WR and RB’s). And they also have a lot of guys on that defense that have been productive that are getting a bit long in the tooth (Hughes, Addison, Hyde, Poyer).
  22. I wonder if they don’t basically do what they did with Tre. Give him the 5th year option, let it play out, and then have his extension on the back end of it, as opposed to tearing up the last year or two of his rookie & 5th year option.
  23. I think with the lower cap guys like him and Roberts (basically specialists) will be signed for veteran minimum and will want to stick in a good situation as opposed to moving elsewhere
