One way to help Josh Allen's accuracy: Fewer dropped passes
GreggTX replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The NFL average for 'on a dime' passes is 15 to 16 percent, which means that roughly half the QB's in the NFL are doing it more often than that. Josh Allen is doing that about half as often as the NFL average. There's no question that Allen's inability to place the ball with accuracy on a consistent basis is a major contributor to our dropped passes total. He has one of the worst accuracy ratings of any NFL QB's, not just starters. He has the strongest arm around, but the accuracy of a 3rd string QB. -
I still say Lamonica was the better QB.
-
The league avg for 'right on target' throws is between 15 and 16%. Josh's figure for 2018 was 8 point something percent -- about half the avg. That's obviously a big factor. It's not all on the receivers.

2019 Bills Passing Game - What do you expect?
GreggTX replied to ColoradoBills's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I expect us to run more now that we've upgraded the OL. I'll say 55% completion rate, 2,800 yards, 15 TD's and 24 INT's for Allen in 2019. -
Devin Singletary excited to feel wanted by Bills.
GreggTX replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's always a lot of mystery with small school players. At least we know he won't go down without a fight and I'm guessing he'll be good in short yardage situations like Marcus Allen was. He makes quick decisions, sees the field well like Fred did and he's slippery. -
Team QB Situations according to Yardbarker

Darnold deserves to be higher. Rosen might turn out better too. Also, he never said Mayfield is the 2nd coming of Brady. You just made that up. -
Team QB Situations according to Yardbarker
GreggTX replied to Bongo's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know you homers can't admit it, but this article is dead on accurate. The only team in the NFL with a worse QB scenario than the Bills is the Giants. My greatest fear is that it will take OBD far too long to realize this like the Dolphins did with Tannehill or the Bucs with Winston. We'll remain an afterthought until a new HC comes in and says he wants a new QB. We'll also be crying over the fact that we could have had Mahomes, but Whaley (and his scouts) blew it. My goodness how butthurt everyone is over this! -

I think we finish ahead of Miami, but the Jets did a LOT to improve -- even more than us. Also, long term, I think Darnold will be a much better QB than Allen. I think 7 or 8 wins and 3rd in the AFCE is where we finish in 2019. -
RD 6, Pick 181: S Jaquan Johnson, University of Miami
GreggTX replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It appears that speed is his achilles heel, but he's solid in all other regards. I'm wondering if he could add some muscle mass and move up to the 2nd level. -
RD 3, Pick 96: TE Dawson Knox, Ole Miss
GreggTX replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I know this guy has a lot of work to do to get ready to play TE in the NFL, especially his route running. The good news is that he appears to have all the athletic ability needed for success and he is already a good blocking TE. -

I'd have to go with Darnold. I still think Rosen has a chance, but he's been on 2 very weak offenses in Arizona and Miami. Mayfield should take a big jump as well. I think Josh's natural inability to throw well placed, catchable balls on a consistent basis will limit his value. -
RD 5, Pick 147: LB Vosean Joseph, University of Florida
GreggTX replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Value-wise, this was our best pick of the draft. If we can get him to see more of the field, he'll not only be a starter, but he'll be a probowler. He needs to bulk up a bit, but that's the easy part. -
Which One - Fitz, Tyrod, or Barkley as Your Your Backup?
GreggTX replied to Irv's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
All things equal, I'd take Fitz, but you're right. I'd be equally happy with Tyrod. -
Post Draft Vegas Season Win Over / Under Bills at 6.5

7 or 8 wins seems most likely. -
Agreed on both points except we're stuck with Lotulelei for 4 more years or we eat dead money to upgrade the position. Oliver will be facing double teams instead of Star. We won't need to offer Hughes a 4 year contract because no one else will either and I still think he can be productive for a couple more years, but that's just a guess. DE could be our primary need next offseason.

Shaq Lawson Option decision week. What do you do?
GreggTX replied to Seoulful Soul's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
#2. This is his "show me" year. Besides, who's to say he won't get his veteran contract and hit the snooze button like Dareus did? -
He's dead on average for a star-ting DT. This signing was a mistake and is compounded by the fact that we gave him a long term deal. By the end of the 2019 season, he may well be the 3rd best DT on the roster behind Oliver and Harry. J Phillips has little to no chance of passing him up, though. I wonder if McBeane will realize this and trade him and either Murphy or Shaq. Unlikely, but they admitted their mistake with KB and moved on. It's harder to do that with a guy that has the right attitude like Star. KB was immature and disinterested. I sincerely hope you're wrong about Hughes.

What's our best case scenario for O-line?
GreggTX replied to 1ManRaid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Dawkins' play did not progress or regress in year 2 and he's publicly owned up to it. I expect an uptick in year 3 given his change of heart. I think playing on such a bad OL discouraged him. He should be pretty excited right now. I do think it will take time for this OL to gel with so many new faces, but the other guy that has to be excited is Shady. Mark my words. He's going to have his best season in a while. Josh should be excited too. If Ford turns out to be as good as I think he can be, this OL will be in the 10 best. That's a huge leap. -
Predict the OL for week 1 of reg season
GreggTX replied to GreggTX's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Why start Nsekhe? He's a very average to below average OT. Everyone talks like he's an above average OT. He's an above average backup. -
What week does Rosen go down and Fitz come in?
GreggTX replied to The Red King's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Rosen has been handed the 2 worst "opportunities" in his brief career. One season is too soon to give up on him, however. -
Will the Bills go to camp with 9 RBs?
GreggTX replied to The Bills Blog's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
McCoy, Singletary and Yeldon make the squad. I'd like to see Singletary add 10 lbs and see if he can maintain his speed. Gore is finished, IMO. -
Unless Hughes regresses this year, I'd like to keep him. Add an even better DE on the other side and add a gamebreaker at both WR and RB. I'll have to see how much better Levi Wallace can get in year 2 before committing to a new CB. We pretty much know that EJ Gaines is an average CB and excellent depth.

Successful season...what will it take?
GreggTX replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Bottom line is that Josh Allen is our ceiling and he has the worst accuracy of ANY starting QB in the NFL. Then again, he's one of the 2 best scramblers and one of the strongest arms. He also needs to be able to make quicker, smarter decisions which is not automatic. Hopefully his decision making will take a big leap this year. As far as the accuracy goes, I don't see it happening unless he lengthens his throwing motion and gets away from that shot-put like motion he uses now and starts throwing over the top. It will add time to his release, but if it helps his accuracy, that would be a HUGE advantage to him. I think 7 or 8n wins is most likely. Additionally, we will need to acquire another beast to play DLE in order to maximize Oliver's impact or he will be facing double teams all year.
