New O-Line; From 31st to top 5 in one off season?
GreggTX replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know about top 5. That requires that Dawkins takes the big step he should have taken last year and Ford lives up to expectations or exceeds them. Then we need at leaqst 1 more G to become a real monster -- either Long or Teller. Still, the improvement in this unit is exceptional. bean said they'd get this done and they sure did. -
PanchoBilla enters Hospice (Has now passed away)

Hang in there Baby!!! -
They aren't ranked, so it's hard to say where we fell. 6 teams were graded "excellent" and we were part of a large group of "above average" drafts. They loved our first 2 picks and Vosean Joseph, but hated on Singletary. Time will tell.

3 more observations: 1. Many people are writing Zay Jones off way too easily. 2. Cody Ford is our starting RT for the forseable future. 3. We're still a year away from being a heavy weight contender and even that's questionable until Allen can learn how to aim a football. PFF ranked him like 32nd in ball placement and noted that even many of his short throws were well off the mark. That's probably the single biggest reason why we suffered so many dropped passes last year. I'm tired of hearing "good enough" on this board. I want the Bills to win a SB while I'm still around to see it and "good enough" usually means 2nd best in my experience.

The difference between Ziggy and both Murphy and Shaq is very minimal. I don't want to lock in such a minimal talent long term -- especially at such an important position. We already made that mistake with Lotulelei. Now Oliver will be drawing the double teams because of that mistake. We may have no choice but to wait for the 2020 draft to fill the LDE position. In the mean time, we'll have to hope that either Murphy's recovery is complete and he can have a 12+ sack season (doubtful) or Shaq suddenly lives up to expectations as a 1st round pick. Any trade made at this point is likely to be too expensive and neither Demarcus Lawrence nor Von Miller nor Khalil Mack are available. I don't see any WR help coming either. Extend Jerry Hughes maybe and roll the surplus over to next year's cap.

All I can say is that the 2 best QB's in the 2018 draft were already gone when we selected Allen. It remains to be seen if he's the real deal or just another running QB that can't hit the side of a barn. Many Bills fans simply will not allow themselves to see him as he really is -- Tyrod Taylor v2.0. At least TT made it to the probowl once. I'm getting tired of these QB's we bring in with the same MO (Allen, Taylor, EJ Manuel). I want a QB that throws the ball accurately with good placement on a consistent basis and one that makes quick, correct decisions. If he's a good scrambler, OK, but I really don't much care about that. How many rushing yards does Brady get in a season? 50 maybe? And he's got 6 SB rings.

Ansah has seen his best days come and go. He's very marginally better than Murphy or Shaq. Why would you want him? I definitely wouldn't sign him for more than 1 year and then only in case someone at DE got injured.

Bills Roster Improvement during McBeane Era
GreggTX replied to Max Fischer's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This OL is so much better than last year's, it not funny. Watch our run game take off again. He was for a while, but for the last several seasons, he was playing like a backup. -
I'll go with Dawkins at LT, Spain at LG, Morse at C, Teller at RG and Ford at RT. Long and Feliciano will back up at C/G. Nsekhe will be the swing tackle. Waddell could make the final 53, but that's unlikely. Long could also start at RG if he's finally healthy. I think people are underestimating Teller's potential, though.

There are going to be a LOT of very interesting position battles this year and a few surprises as usual. This TC will be fun to track all through preseason.

RD 3, Pick 74: RB Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic
GreggTX replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I've been looking into this guy some more. I don't think he can be elite because of his speed, but he can be effective. We'll still need to add a RB next year, but RB by committee can work. He's small and slow, but doesn't go down easily. His speed is just enough to get by. Very elusive. -
We did get a TE, which was a bigger need. Besides, the best value was in round and I'm very happy with Cody Ford. Mark my words. We are going to pound the rock with authority this year and that makes me very happy.

RD 6, Pick 181: S Jaquan Johnson, University of Miami
GreggTX replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think that job goes to Taron Johnson or EJ Gaines if Levi Wallace wins the job opposite Trae'Davious. -
RD 5, Pick 147: LB Vosean Joseph, University of Florida
GreggTX replied to Reed83HOF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I read the tape on him has no in between. It's really good or really ugly. Hopefully a year on the bench and he'll be a very pleasent surprise. In the meantime, he's a nice upgrade for LB depth and ST. He can block and tackle in the open field. -
I LOVE this pick! For one, I've always believed in building a team up in the trenches and now we could have a top 10 OL. For another, I'd really like to see us run the ball more and Ford is a road grader. I bet Shady is smiling from ear to ear right now. Also, I feel compelled to correct some of the chatter on Dawkins. He did not regress in his 2nd season. He did not progress either. He is an average starting OT. He isn't getting moved from his starting LT spot. He is very slightly better than Nsekhe, who remains the best backup OT in the NFL. In fact, Ford may not be ready on day 1, but I still think he starts right away.
-
I share the OP's concern, but he exaggerates. They took a high risk/reward TE and a slow RB that runs on willpower. We'll see. I knew a small guy when I was young that could literally lift a car engine by hand. Maybe Singletary is one of those guys. They use lighter weights for the bench press rather than something like clean and jerk. Still... A 4.66 40? Oliver could do that with the wind at his back.

RD 3, Pick 74: RB Devin Singletary, Florida Atlantic
GreggTX replied to SDS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
A 4.66 40 time and he's only 203 lbs? This pick reminds me of Danny Batten. Great motor and small school production, but no talent. Oh well. We still have Shady. -
Whether or not the Jets got the "wrong" QB is undecided. Darnold's passes are much more consistently accurate than Allen's, but Josh may turn out to be the best scrambler of his generation. Josh also has a stronger arm. Yes.
-
If they do, it would likely be a CB or edge rusher. I think CB is more likely because there are more good ones left. Then again, if they have a high grade on a edge rusher that they can get before a drop off at the position, maybe they go DE and try to trade up for a guy like Sternberger.
-
I'd rather see them trade up from the 3rd to the 2nd, but I'm not sure. It's my understanding that this is wher the supply of guys with a very strong chance of starting runs out. Of course, there will always be some later picks and UDFA's that will be diamonds in the rough.
-
Who are these guys?
-
Jace Sternberger is a terrible blocker, but he can learn to get better and he's an excellent receiver. I think he'd instantly become Allen's favorite target.
-
I'm amazed by all the hype over Jawaan Taylor and he's still undrafted. I doubt the Cardinals pass on him.
-
Good choices, but I'd rather go TE than WR.Not by any wide margin, though. We have several solid WR's that could still get better, but I don't see much beyond average at TE.
-
You mean Kroft, Beasley and Brown. Yes. What's with the attitude?
