Who is Your Favorite New Player to This Point ?
GreggTX replied to T master's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Ed Oliver. I believe he has the highest ceiling along with solid maturity and a real desire to be the best. I can't wait to see him play after he's had a few games under his belt. As far as 2019 goes, though, I think Cole Beasley could prove to be the best addition in terms of helping Allen. The 4 yard completion is much better than the 40 yard incompletion. Chris Simms seems to think that inaccuracy CAN be fixed and early reports of Josh's work in OTA's sound promising. Then again, what do you expect the folks at bb.com to say about him? I sure hope they're not just whistling in the wind. 2 other recent arrivals I'm really looking forward to seeing are Devin Singletary, Zay Jones (who is developing a good chemistry with Allen) and Tremaine Edmunds. I would love to hear people talking seriously about Edmunds as a probowler late in the season. Bottom line: I am more anxious to see how Allen performs in year 2 than I am about any new arrival this year. -
Bills secondary left out of top-tier mention
GreggTX replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They allowed fewer yards, but I think it could be argued that they didn't play as well as they did in 2017 because the offense wasn't scoring so opponents pssed less on 1st and 2nd down. -
Jets fire GM Mike Maccagnan, name Adam Gase interim GM
GreggTX replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is strange because the Jets have had an excellent offseason. Looks like a power grab. -
10 Buffalo Bills 2018 starters who could be off roster in 2019
GreggTX replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't know about Teller. He was a rookie, so it would be foolish to give up on him so soon. Spain will be one of the starting guards, but Feliciano and Long aren't much competition. Teller could start again and have the usual 2nd year improvement. It could be worse. Maybe Long will regain his old form, but he hasn't played well recently. He was hurt last year and played hurt and at a low level. -
The most encouraging rookie camp observation that I saw

Who was the OL coach for Chan? Talk about making average guys look good! Then again, Fitz wasn't holding the ball very long. Allen will need to get rid of it much sooner this year as well, but he has some experience now so that should help. -
I'm not going to say that our receivers were good last year, but they were slightly underrated due to a rookie QB and poor protection. I think that upgrading the OL was the highest priority and for good reason. I also think Singletary is going to surprise a few people. He won't run wide as much as Shady or have many 20+ yard runs, but he'll be good.

Expectations for Josh Allen this year
GreggTX replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
55% completion rate 16 TD's, 24 INT's 2500 - 2800 yds 4 rushing TD's It's true that our receivers dropped a lot of passes, but that's what happens when the QB keeps throwing off target. -
Best of everything going forward EJ. You gave it your all and handled it with grace.
-
That would not be wise. He doesn't have sufficient length toplay DE. He might make some plays there or at NT, but he'd be much more effective as a 3-gap DT.
-
I like the Singletary prediction, but I think Shady is going to have a much better year than many are imagining. Still, Singletary will be looking good and we'll start running more to take advantage of him. I don't think we'll beat the Patriots even once if Brady is healthy. I wish, but I think 11 wins is still well out of reach for us. I don't see Jackson starting or winning. He's a real project. That said, his ceiling could be really high and I hope they keep him on the final 53.
-
1. Well, you're mostly right. I think he saw the writing on the wall. 2. Agreed. Picking Singletary in the 3rd means he's not around. Yeldon will likely be #3. 3. He has admitted that he didn't work hard enough last year. If he follows through with a commitment, he can be very good. We'll see. 4. #3 at best, IMO. You don't even want him on the field in passing situations, so #1 and #2 seem well out of reach for him. #2 belongs to Croom or Knox.

Mark Pike’s son is trying out with Bills - heck of a story
GreggTX replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hope he is able to overcome his addiction and become a great player for us. If not, I hope he can at least overcome his addiction. -
We're building the offense around the passing attack
GreggTX replied to VW82's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think building the offense around the passing attack is a huge mistake. Allen's wheels are much, much better than his arm and always will be. I say run first and pass later to take advantage of his strength rather than trying to imagine that he throws accurately, which he's never done in college or the NFL. -
And don't count Sweeney out. He has great hands and is a decent blocker. If he learns to runs routes well, he could be a factor. We may not have any 1 guy that is probowl caliber in 2019, but maybe soon after. I agree that these young TE's need more reps.

I hope they keep Tyree Jackson even if he falters. He's a project from the ground up, but well worth the investment in time and attention IMO. We really don't know where his ceiling is, but given his natural attributes, it could be pretty high. -
Trade Lawson and a 2020 draft pick for Clowney?
GreggTX replied to tomur67's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm not sure because I don't know what Clowney's ceiling is. He has made a very slow climb each year in the NFL and is now borderline elite. Is this his ceiling or will he make yet another step up? As far as giving up a 1st round pick for a non-QB is considered, he'd have to be another Khalil Mack. If Clowney can become a 12+ sack guy, then OK. Otherwise, a 2nd is all I'd give up. Also consider the fact that we won't be picking in the top 10, but still in the top 16 perhaps. The value isn't the same. -
I hope Phil Simms is right too, but I would just add that Josh needs to do the same thing Lamar Jackson needs to do. Throw better. Also, I watched Chris Simms review the DT's for this year's draft and he wasn't nearly as high on Oliver as most people were. He didn't hate him, but didn't love him either. I'd also double down on their evaluation of Rosen. I think far too many people are giving up on him too soon. He played on the worst team in football last year and he's stuck on the worst team in the NFL again this year. We may not see how good (or bad) Rosen really is for another 2-3 years.
-
He's an excellent blocker or at least he was. I heard somewhere that Sweeney had great hands, so I'm guessing he goes to the PS. We know Kroft and Knox are almost certain to make the roster and Croom is decent depth. Fischer is strictly a blocker. If Smith signs, those TE positions will be hotly contested.

In the wake of Ziggy to Seattle - What does Beane do now?
GreggTX replied to TigerJ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We go with Murphy/Shaq at LE and Hughes/Harold at RE. Darryl Johnson on the PS. That's my guess. Next year they go all in for both DE positions. -
Butch Rolle to be working with Dawson Knox
GreggTX replied to Food_Pyramid_Wrong's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey Butch! Lend Dawson your stealth jersey. He needs a TD reception really bad.
