He is a great player, but that doesn't mean he is a hall of famer. If he were to retire tomorrow I would put money on him NOT getting in. That means he hasn't done enough yet. He had two really good seasons. The rest were above average. And as a Bill he was good, but not great. And he usually struggled for the first half of the season before looking like one of the best in the league in the second half of the season. And it started that way in NE too. There were Pats fans calling for him to get released. But he put it all together, became consistently good, and is now a fantastic player. But no, he was not playing to the level he is now when he was a Bill. He clearly got better.

He is pretty fast for his size. He has actually made some pretty great catches. He just follows those up with easy drops. And when he gets the ball in his hands he runs defenders over. I've seen special stuff from him. But none of it matters if he can't consistently make the easy plays. That's what plagues him.

I'm actually a little puzzled that he hasn't had opportunities the past few years. There are usually desperate teams out there more than willing to bank on the resurgence of past ability.

Bring Shady back for 1 more year?

He was really good here for a few years. I don't think he was overrated at all. -

He is old, doesn't play special teams (to my knowledge), and was never a particularly good teammate or mentor. Hard pass. He was awesome in his prime, though. -
Titans 2020 #1 pick posts he is done with Titans
MJS replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Titans screwed up their draft and off-season for sure. But this particular player has nobody to blame but himself. -
Knox has never gotten out of the dog house. At least Edmunds has the benefit of playing better as the year went on and he got healthy. Actually Knox did pretty well towards the end and caught a few TD's, but nobody here will ever admit that.

Trade up or trade back in this year’s draft?

Either... or neither. Whichever. -
Re-sign or “wave goodbye” series: Player 7 - Matt Barkley

I wouldn't mind having Dalton as a backup. Or even Tyrod Taylor. -
And rain? Or did the Pats game have rain? I remember two rain games.

Wasn't the 2nd Jets game inclement weather too? I seem to remember a couple of the regular season games being bad weather.

The 't' in 'often' has had a resurgence, much like the 'd' in 'handsome'. This is actually due to an increase in education and understanding of spelling. Both are correct, according to The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (4th ed.). 'Often' comes from 'oft' and people stopped pronouncing the 't' merely because of laziness. "With the rise of public education and people’s awareness of spelling in the 19th century, according to the dictionary, sounds that had become silent were sometimes restored. This is what happened with the “t” in “often.”" https://www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2007/07/often.html

Diggs on the block? Rumor is a 2nd rd pick (year old thread)
MJS replied to BillsMafi$'s topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So Thielen wasn't better in 2017 when he had 1276 yards, 91 catches, and 5 TD's compared to Diggs who had 849 yards, 64 receptions, and 8 TD's? What about in 2018 when Thielen had 1373 yards, 113 receptions, and 9 TD's compared to Diggs who had 1022 yards, 102 receptions, and 9 TD's? He also had more receptions, yards, and TD's than Diggs in 2016. So it is obvious NOW that Diggs is better than Thielen, but a year ago that wasn't really the case. Thielen had two pro bowls and Diggs had none. I'm pretty sure Thielen was listed ahead of Diggs on the depth chart too. Yes, they were 1A and 1B, but Thielen was the 1A. Perhaps Diggs knew he was better and was not being utilized to his full potential, and maybe that had something to do with some of the tension that emerged there. But to outside observers, Thielen and Diggs were both really good receivers, but Thielen had a bit more production and was used in a wider variety of ways. Perhaps you and others were wiser and knew that Diggs was much better than Thielen, but that was not how the two receivers were being used in Minnesota. I was really happy about the trade too. We had a low 1st round pick and I thought there was no way a rookie would come in and be better than Diggs. -

I think most of the opinions were pretty valid at the time. Diggs had a breakout year. Yeah, everyone knew he was a good receiver, but at the time there was not evidence of him being an All-Pro receiver and being able to lead the league in receptions and receiving yards. And those who thought Thielen was better were justified in how the Vikings used them both. Thielen seemed to be the go-to receiver there with Diggs used as a deep threat. At the time of the trade there were tons of people saying we overpaid, including Bills fans. Turns out we did not overpay and Diggs was a huge difference maker and proved he could be one of the best receivers in the league. But at the time, Diggs had had a couple of 1,000 yard seasons and showed he was a great route runner, but he had not shown that he was an All-Pro caliber receiver yet. I was not against the trade when it happened and I was hopeful of what Diggs could mean to the offense, but I don't think it was wrong for others to have been worried about the move and think we gave up too much at the time. -

I don't think Lebron James has the same presence that Jordan had. And I think Jordan was a little more likable than Lebron too. So ultimately I do think he had a larger, more varied audience willing to watch him. So while they may be similar as far as talent and dominance, I think it was easier for people to watch Jordan. And, maybe the NBA as a whole was a little easier to watch back then versus now. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like players change teams a lot more often today, even some of the greatest players. Jordan played the majority of his career with one team. -

Sure, but I watched him play and he certainly deserves a fair share of the blame himself. -

Colin Cowherd's QB Dominoes for the 2021 Off-Season
MJS replied to chongli's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
You might be holding onto the past too much. Wentz has seriously regressed. He threw 16 TD's and 15 INT's last year. Rating of 72.8. Trubisky has played better than that every single year of his career. He threw 16 TD's and only 8 INT's last year. Good for a 93.5 rating. I do think Wentz would probably be marginally better, but no, he is not that much of an upgrade and the Bears would do well to look for someone better. Wentz isn't going to miraculously revive his career. You might as well stick with who you got and draft someone or try to trade for someone better. -

I don't think their defense would have been significantly better with the opt outs. They lost a lot of talent BEFORE the opt outs, and I have a hunch they will be moving on from Gilmore. But I do respect Belichick's ability to scrape together a respectable defense. He has always been able to. But their offense was horrible, and it's the first time he has had to build an offense without Brady. Brady isn't there anymore to make lemonade out of lemons. Their offense needs a significant injection of talent at basically every position group, especially QB. I don't see them doing that without a rebuild. -

It's all plausible. But I do wonder why the Bears would be interested in Wentz. And NE going with a backup caliber QB is fine by me. I think Mariota is one of the better backups in the league, but he is not going to move the needle much for the Patriots, I don't think. I think maybe the Patriots should take their medicine and go full rebuild and maybe draft a guy next year. Maybe getting Mariota helps achieve that, I don't know.
