[Vague Title] The King..Is out there..Sammy
HomeskillitMoorman replied to plenzmd1's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Some of the comments here are troubling. Mental health issues are no joke. If you want to slam Sammy as the bust of a football player he was here, that's fine. I never liked that pick and didn't really like him as a player and fought people here on the "decoy" nonsense. But some of the personal stuff here is pretty cruel. Dude was in his early 20's with what sounds like significant mental health issues. Lots of people with those problems self-medicate, especially from underserved populations where you don't really know what to do with all of that. Hopefully whether all that stuff is real or not, the dude can keep the mental clarity he supposedly has now. Even if he's just tricking himself with some of his philosophies, there's no harm in trying to turn negatives into positives. -
Haha yikes, I just saw that. I don't know what that was. That's a concern to me as well. It didn't feel like he got better as his college career went along. Although I really only saw him in "big" games so I wouldn't know the entire scope of what his seasons looked like. I've come around more to the pick though. I did want us to draft a QB, I am not in the camp of fully trusting Matt Barkley off of one good game he had against a bad team when the rest of his career he hasn't even shown to be a reliable backup, I definitely wanted some competition for the backup role and even possibly a potential contingency plan for Allen in case he doesn't take the leap in year 3. I personally don't think Fromm is high-potential enough for the latter, but I think he could be a solid backup, which would still make that a good pick in round 5.

This is mostly about the salary dump, which is huge. Honestly though, even though that draft was stacked...I don't know how much I can rail on the former regime for taking Dareus. He was a total force in college and he had everything physically to be a really impactful stalwart on the DLine. To me it's still tougher to find those guys than WR's. I tend to be in the middle when it comes to the draft being evaluation vs crapshoot. For the most part I think it's very tough to tell who will adapt to the NFL and keep/elevate their motivation. I don't blame the logic in drafting Dareus though, at the time I was fully on board.

Definitely agree about the shot at Bills Mafia, the best fanbase in all of sports. I honestly think he was purposefully trolling, he probably does know better. The part about McD though is exactly the problem that I think exists in most evaluations of him. That would be nice if McD was just a defensive coordinator. But the head coach has more responsibility than that. I wasn't as bothered by being 0-4 vs the Pats in the first two years as I was losing both this past season because both of those were winnable games. That was not the elite Brady of years past, and it really wasn't that good of a team overall. Miami came into NE and did what we couldn't basically a week or so later, and they're in year 1 of their rebuild.

Obviously a troll article...but I think the shot at McD is honestly a fair one. 0-6 vs the Hoodie, the last 2 coming in a year where the Pats were not very good, and hasn't really shown any kind of improvement with his game management skills in 3 years. I like our talent, but am concerned about this guy's ability in big moments and if he is the kind of coach that can battle with the best.

Rd 5, Pick 167: QB Jake Fromm, Georgia
HomeskillitMoorman replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Sounds kind of like Matt Barkley. Dude had 1 good game for us against a bad team and has somehow been solidified here as a high quality backup in spite of the rest of his career. I didn't love the Fromm pick but I was 100% all for drafting a QB to create some competition for that backup spot. I wasn't nearly as sold that we had a good backup situation in place. -
It's mostly this. It's a weird coping mechanism that I don't think is really needed. There are so many teams in the draft that don't get the #1 guy they hoped for at their pick, but no GM is going to say that, so I think fans are conditioned to believe or just want to believe that the draft always works out in the most optimal way.

Trey Adams releases his own Bills hype video

He's awesome overall, but I had never heard that one and it's gotta be the worst one I've heard from him. -

I kind of like this dude and I understand the connection with the song title...however that song sounded awful. I'm usually cool with Eminem but his voice sounded really annoying on that track. -

Id be more excited if I thought he had good BU potential. -

I like this draft but not this pick. This dude is not an NFL QB. I was a proponent for drafting a 3rd QB if a guy had some potential and athleticism that could be molded...but this guy has a very low ceiling to begin with. -
I don't want Flacco but I think to say we have one of the best backup QB situations is a reach. It's basically based on 1 game Barkley had last year vs the Jets vs the entire rest of his career. He's not a terrible backup but a 3rd QB with upside or that's better is definitely not something I'd object to.

Bills sign Josh Norman

Sure, kind of like Kelvin Benjamin -
YES!!! Very badly needed, I think McDermott is a good teacher of the game but he is straight trash when it comes to game/clock management. Like almost unbelievably bad for a guy who just finished his 3rd year. I'm glad he at least recognizes it and hopefully will give up some of those responsibilities. As we've seen with Andy Reid, for some it's not something that ever really becomes a strength.

Even if it had been his fault, it's crazy how seriously fans take all of this. In the end it's obviously just a game. I think fans in general, no matter what sport, take it way too far with not only their own players but the opposition. And sometimes without any perspective whatsoever. I loved that Jeff Van Gundy moment a couple of years ago when DeAndre Jordan changed his mind after verbally committing to Dallas and stayed on the Clippers I think it was, The game he came back, they were just nasty to him and Van Gundy said, "All this guy did is change his mind. The same people who are booing him will be cheering Greg Hardy on Sunday", alluding to a guy that at the time was convicted of domestic violence somehow was given a pass over Jordan. It's the sick part of sports really. I get frustrated at times with the Bills but never to that degree, like another poster here said, that's really just blurring the line of sanity.

Everybody should be ticked off

I didn't, but we had the pieces to win that game. The coach? That's what worried me going in and definitely even moreso for the future. -

Haha I probably wouldn't go that far. I've never gone to the airport but I wouldn't discourage it if people normally do. I do think this is a team that plays hard, but with some definite fundamental core issues that I don't know will be resolved. -

I love our fanbase and wouldn't trade it for any other...but it is kind of a low standard one to be really honest. We didn't have a great season if we're being really objective. Decent progress from our 2nd year QB but he still looks like a long-term question-mark, 1-5 vs playoff teams including 0-2 against one of the worst Patriots teams of their dynasty. A really soft schedule led to 10-6, which is nice, part of what you need to be able to do is beat the teams you should. In comparison to the regimes of the past, which is the standard that's being upheld for the most part, yeah it was much better. But in comparison to a successful NFL regime in year 3, I think it was just a mediocre season.
