Are the Bills back to being the NFL's farm team?
yungmack replied to BuffBillsForLife's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Aw, don't do that, you're messing with the OPs cherished narrative that the Bills suck and other teams don't. And don't even think about mentioning Micah Hyde. His head will explode. -
WR Mike Williams Visited Bills today
yungmack replied to Billy Zabka's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There's talk on another thread about McCaffrey who fills two or more slots (WR, RB, Returner). He's a genuine 4 down player. Howard is similar. He's an elite TE, a good WR and an excellent blocker. He very well might be a big asset on Special Teams as well. And with Dennison's taste for the 2 TE offense, combined with TT's limitations (and, to be fair, his strengths), Howard would be an immediate force. He would be a much better choice than yet another speed WR, again given TT's strengths and weaknesses. If he's available and the Bills take him at 10, I'm not going to smash my head into the men's room wall at the Big Tree Inn. -
Christian McCaffrey - Darkhorse pick
yungmack replied to Ittakestime's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The OP makes sense. For the last week, people have been going nuts about losing MG and who's going to replace him. And loads of fans have been obsessing on the need for a WR. McCaffrey fills both roles on a high level. Plus he's a quality return man. And he's exactly McD's type of player. Picking him at 10 is not at all crazy. If he's there at 10, it won't be a shock if the Bills take him. -
It was the SB. You know, that game with the supposed two best teams? That might have had something to do with all that scoring. If you believe the Bills will be on the level of NE and ATL with the addition of your draft picks, then stick with your opinion. Personally, I lean big time towards ndirish's position. As much as I like TT, I don't regard him as an elite QB, particularly for the passing game, so McD is going to have to find another way to win. I've got to believe that begins with a dominant D, a strong Oline, and an elite running game. So the holes in those three parts are the ones that get priority in the draft and FA signings I would imagine. About your "If Tyrod can't get them the ball, move on" order, now you're just being silly. You know darn well he's here for this year for certain and likely next year as well, so there will be no "moving on" for awhile. Maybe by then Cardale will be sizzling (though I wouldn't count on it). Or maybe Sam Darnold will be discovered in an Easter basket on Pegula's yacht. In the meantime, in the real world (not the world of "alternative facts"), this is the team we have. In the immortal words of The Firesign Theater, "Live it or live with it."

Minus the obvious...what would you like to see this year?

Perfect. Oh, and what the hell, sweeping the AFCE. -
Running backs expected to be taken between Rounds 4-7

Pumphrey is tons of fun to watch but, man, he is small. I think he's smaller than the published stats. I like Conner, and the kid from Boise, but that's probably because I've seen them play more than the other guys. -
Pats sign Gillislee to offer sheet
yungmack replied to johnwalter's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He was just wondering, not saying it was factual. Or provable. And because rational people don't think he is "very poor" at what he does for a living, it makes some of us wonder if in fact race might not play a big part in how Whaley is criticized around WNY. Oh, you might want to think through feeling hatred towards DW. Pretty strong emotions you're feeling there, considering we're talking about a silly part of life, sports fandom. Hardly seems like it should bring up feelings of hatred. -
Might not be just his "white hair" he likes. Whaley's connection to the team was Russ Brandon, and he tasked Buddy with teaching DW the mechanics of running the GM position. As to Donohoe, I didn't much like him, but his lack of success might have had more to do with Ralph Wilson's meddling even as his mental acuity declined.

So long as you don't own the team or are not the one making the picks, why do you care about "embarrassment"? We're just fans and we're not responsible for screw ups by Bill ownership/management. "We" are responsible for bat spinning, leaps off tables, wandering off into the woods to our deaths, and other examples of Bills Classic Fandom. But screwed up draft picks? Meh.

Recent draft history shows 1st rd QBs more likely to fail

A few "Can't Miss" misses off the top of my head: Tim Couch, Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, Todd Marinovich...given time, I'm sure I'd come up with a bunch more... -

I wonder if you even heard of TD Mike before Whaley signed him? -
[closed]If the Bills let this guy get away
yungmack replied to bills in oregon's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hey, dude, you know this is being discussed elsewhere. Learn how to use the site. BTW, had you even heard of him before last year? Of course you didn't. So relax, Whaley will find another unknown low info fans can go nuts about next year when the team let's him go. -
Whew! You're amazing. Now, out of all this, do you have "best guesses" for whom the Bills would likely pick in each round if they had their druthers?

The Bills at their best. Great memories.

COULD the Oline use an upgrade? Sure it could. And so could QB, WR, RB, TE. Improve it until every starter is HOF material. That would be wonderful. But it's the D side of the team that NEEDS an upgrade. I think most would agree that there are big questions at LB, CB and S. And the DT position is heavily reliant on an aging Kyle Williams and a prone-to-screw-up Marcel Dareus. If I'm McD and Whaley, what gives me sleepless nights is the D and that's the area I look to the draft to stabilize before anything else.

Based on the number of your posts, you're probably new around here so don't know that "Buffalo Media" has long been a whipping boy at TBD, and justifiably so. The reason there's no "reporting" on Cardale or really any other Bills beyond the team's PR handouts is that the "Buffalo Media" would have to get off its collective behind and actually do some reporting. It is much, much easier to just sit in a cubicle and B word about Pegs, or Whaley, or Brandon, to create whole narratives based on an uninformed tweet from La Canfora, or just motor off to One Bills Drive for the pro forma "news conference" then motor back to downtown and regurgitate whatever thin gruel the Bills put out, with the addition of "hot rumors" picked up from other "Buffalo Media" types who are doing the same thing with your rumors. The only local reporter worth a damn is JW and he's technically not "Buffalo Media," being an AP reporter. We did have one really good BN reporter but he fled the stinking (sic) ship as soon as he could. Probably for the best as an environment of Bucky and Jerry and Jay and Vic would soon have brought on Early Onset Screaming Meemies.

NFL Draft outside this year(Philly)
yungmack replied to LabattBlue's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't care where they have it but I'd like to see them make it a two day event. Which won't happen because of the TV money. -
Well, we did.

I would add McSorley to the list.

The McDermott Era begins - Voluntary OTAs

I believe you missed the point. Promo wasn't writing about what the league thinks of Lil Kelly but rather the double standard some posters around here apply to, say, Dareus, who they want to cut because of off-field behavior while arguing that a proven lout like Kelly ought to be given "another chance." Can I get a "Hmm"? -
Bills at Patriots, November 29, 1998 ending
yungmack replied to BrycePaup4ever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That fake first down, which he was out of bounds three yards from the marker, then the PI, then Carroll going for two...worst screw job in the history of the league. On the plus side, I was never as proud of a coach as I was of Wade for pulling the team. Because of that game, Ralph Wilson moved to bring back instant replay. He'd personally held it up for years, along with a couple of other owners.
