Andre Reed… hall of famer drafted in the 4th round. Kyle Williams … all-pro drafted in the 5th round and possibly a hall of famer on a team that didn’t suck so bad. Taron Johnson, Dawson Knox, Gabe Davis… all late round guys who will make $10M+. It’s luck and we’ve been fine. We drafted a top 3 QB and several other great players and are knocking on the door of the Super Bowl every year.

How do the Dolphins have such similar draft capital to us when they have no first round pick and five total picks?

Am I the only person who would be totally fine with this? Jets take on a massive contract and probably have to give up at least one first round pick. Rodgers didn't look great last year and seems to be a total headcase these days. Seems like a recipe for disaster with the Jets just as they are beginning to build momentum. I'd love that.

Which is why when I hear people talking about paying Edmunds $20M/yr., I politely seek to dig a hole and bury myself inside of it.

When I think to myself "who sets the tone on defense?" it's a very easy answer. Inside linebacker. Do we pay $20M per season on a great coverage linebacker who is "ok" against the run? Or, do we draft a nasty linebacker who hits hard and shoots gaps and spend that $20M on Offensive/Defensive linemen to explode the pocket? Easy answer for me and if McDermott actually wants a "nastier edge" this is the route he'll go.

Can we delete this thread and start over? It's really weird to be thanking Jordan Poyer and also saying "you deserve better" in the original post. He went from depth player on the Browns to starter and all-pro on a perennial playoff contender. He was surrounded by players he loved. The Bills did perfectly fine by him and now he's set up for a big payday.

A few reasons to like this: 1) Because he was cut, he doesn't count against the comp pick formula. Not a free agent. We need as many of those as we can get if we want to recoup a nice 3rd and/or 4th round pick for losing Edmunds and Hyde. 2) The exact type of runner we need. Good in pass pro, experienced, good in short yardage. 3) "Been there before" attitude. Played his best ball in the playoffs and won the SB. A rare time in which I'll shout the proverbial know-nothing phrase of GIT ER DONE BEANE!

They’ll promote someone internally and it’ll be the same bend but don’t break, vanilla defense. This is McDermott’s defense, he just needs a straw man to run it. I’m not being defeatist, that’s just what it is.

So ... he was rated the best linebacker in the league last year, but he's getting older. He'll give the Bills 1-2 more years of elite production, because that's what he's done his entire career including last year. If he was the best linebacker in the league and was 24 years old, we wouldn't be able to afford him and his team probably wouldn't let him go. Not sure what kind of answer you're looking for outside of this.

…and then you have the Bengals with 3 backup o-linemen… dominating us in the trenches and almost making it to the Super Bowl again. Hmm.

Some of us wanted him last year alongside an Edmunds trade. He ended up signing with the Rams at about $12M/per. Now Bobby and the Rams are “mutually agreeing to part ways because he wants to be with a contender.” How about Bobby Wagner and a late round pick to groom at MLB?

We have a top 3 QB. When was the last time a top 3 QB missed the playoffs? This “sky is falling” nonsense has to stop, guys.

Is anybody saying they don’t like Shakir? At worst, it seems like he just wasn’t ready yet last season. I haven’t seen anyone openly bash him. This is a great thread and great story, let’s not ruin it with “told you so” bs.

We drafted an RB in the 2nd round last year who has elite traits. All we need now is a guy who can run between the tackles and pass block. Sounds like Roschon is a good fit, not just because he can do the thing we actually need, but also because he doesn't cost an elite pick that can be used on other things we need.

I’m going to keep this as simple as possible: No. Spotrac and your assumption is that good stats = good/valuable player. Gabe Davis was thrown the ball a lot by one of the best QBs in the league, so he put up yards and TDs. Gabe Davis also showed this year that he has extremely unreliable hands and a limited route tree, which might have cost the Bills their season. Some sucker team will pay him in the off-season, but they shouldn’t. The Bills will draft a WR in the top 3 rounds this off-season and that will tell you everything you need to know.

Silver lining, if he leaves and gets paid top tier money, we potentially get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick as long as we dont sign more guys than we lose.

Great topic. I love Locked On Bills. Can we talk about how One Bills Live has all the potential in the world, but is ruined by “company men” Chris Brown and Steve Tasker? The get all the interviews, guests, team resources … but they ruin it by asking softball questions and constantly stroking the team’s ego. Sometimes I listen just to see if that mentality changes after a loss, but it never does.

It’s not a problem with this message board, it’s a problem with the fan base and it’s totally understandable. After a very long history of failure (my entire adult life as I’m 37 years old), there is finally excitement and hope again. Any time that hope is dashed, the feelings are amplified. People feel like THIS is our one and only chance… and perhaps rightfully so. A little bit of understanding and grace will go a long way in just enjoying this historic moment we’re currently in.

Ask anybody in DC and they will tell you he is the most overrated player in the league. Someone is going to give him a huge contract and he’s Jadeveon Clowney at best. Not picking up the 5th year option on a rookie contract should probably tell you something.

Hear me out. The year is 2018. UGA is in the Rose Bowl. BIG TIME QB Jake Fromm goes 20/29 for 2 TD and no INT. THEY WIN. In 2019, WINNER JAKE FROM goes 12-2 and puts up INSANE stats. Somehow, he drops to the 5th round in the 2020 draft .... WHAT??? The Bills HAVE TO DRAFT HIM TO BACKUP JOSH ALLEN.... THEY DO!!!! And the rest is history, my friends. We have the chance to do this all over again in 2023... how the heck could we say no? 😎

Love him as a player. Hate him as an injury risk. There's too much on the line to risk not having a WR2 again come playoff time because Keenan Allen is injured when it matters.
