  1. Next years first could land an elite pass rusher if it's a fairly high pick ( a decent probability right now). There is little to look forward to at the QB position in 2019. The cap space is certain to be lower than some of the rosy projections that are out there now. Fortunately, it's doubtful the Bills part ways with that 2019 first for anything less than the #2 pick. I think that's appearing less likely, and the Bills move up will be in pick 5-7 range if it happens.
  2. Dolphins are close to Bills pick at 12. Cardinals and Chargers not really a threat as the Bills can beat any offer they make. IF they want to , that is. But no threat of a Jets type scenario. The Broncos are already ahead of the Bills at 5 and have hinted at moving back, as well as taking a QB at 5. Not much the Bills can do about DEN if they want to move up though. The Jets were the biggest threat and already made their move.
  3. The rookie cap is no doubt a factor in this phenomenon. It hasn't led to a " false rise" in QB evaluation, though. It's always been about calculated risk. The cap has lessened the downside to a pick that busts. Teams are now more willing to draft a QB as the potential reward is now worth the risk.
  4. Which other QB needy teams do you see looking to make such a move? If they are anywhere near the Bills spot at 12, the Bills have enough ammo to make a better offer. Sure, if a team has a much better 1st round pick to offer (like the Jets did )it could spell trouble for the Bills. There don't seem to be many move up candidates with a pick inside the top 10.
  5. Lol ... and RoJo wore a bandana , not a headband.
  6. tune in next time to the second episode of frankly speaking... " A non political thought about ethnicity and the CB position in the NFL"
  7. It's always interesting to see a detailed anyalytical summary on these college QBs. Without the need based " bump" baked into the draft ranking that is so commonly seen. This years edition from GB is no exception. Bravo!
  8. It's actually pretty fascinating and absolutely relevant. Leaf looked like a can't miss coming out of WSU. Manning vs Leaf was a real debate prior to that draft. So much so, it was a split cover on ESPN magazine, with that very headline.Manning was questioned for everything from average arm strength to his inability to beat the Gators. I'll readily admit I was relishing the thought of the Bills being able to draft Leaf throughout his 97 season. Leaf's flameout in the NFL was stunning and epic. There are lessons to be learned here.
  9. It will happen when a team willing to make a move back to #12 is willing to accept what the Bills offered them. It's out of the Bills hands mostly. They have to wait. A move to pick #2 could be done pre draft. Perhaps even days or weeks before. There is enough certainty ( 3 out of 4 QBs available ) for that move to make sense pre draft. Anything further back than 2 probably happens during the early stages of round one. The Bills would have to wait and see which players come off the board to determine a target pick. It could be 4, 5 or 6.
  10. Teams can submit claims and the player will go to the team highest in the order based on 2017 record. ( worst w-l is highest) . If the player clears waivers ( 24 hours passes w no claims submitted) they are a FA
  11. We can't assume a move up is possible. Whether due to a lack of a team willing to move down to 12 or if the player is even available at a reachable spot. There are too many variables at this point. Any team in close proximity to the Bills pick at 12 is a minimal threat of beating the Bills to a deal. The Bills could probably give a better offer.
  12. Does the conversation also include black on black gun violence? This is probably the deadliest of all when the body count is completed . It's also amazing how the idea of armed officers in schools has been perverted into a threat to minority students. The idea is to stop a potential massacre by an intruder, yet it is seen as target practice on minorities by racists like BLM. They are assuming an attacker is likely to be a minority, which hasn't been the case in these school shootings.
  13. Scary that more than one school administrator thought this was an appropriate reaction. Good grief.
  14. Baseball is a completely different market altogether. The game is different too. It's physically brutal. You don't survive in the NFL without competitive fire. Those guys get weeded out. Maybe there is a lack of trying to win in MLB , but not in the NFL. It will be contentious, mostly due to the players than anything else. There may be a grey area in the wording of the military agreement. I think that could go away, with the players not coming out of locker rooms until after the anthem. The anthem could simply be eliminated. There will be a lot of heated discussions. The players already have a way to speak up. On their own time, not on the network/ league's time. They are there to get paid . They are paid to play and win games. Not to hijack network coverage for their own personal causes or protests du jour.
  15. Because Cleveland is picking first. Rosen has indicated he wouldn't be thrilled being drafted by CLE. The QBs with more classic build / frame are being talked about as the best fit for the northern teams at the top of the draft.
  16. Yes, however most are not in show business with a captive audience at their job. There are limits at work. Each and every employee does not have the RIGHT to say/ do whatever they want at work. Imagine an employee staging a protest at their job that offended some customers. Do you think that might be a problem for the employer? This is well worn territory, and not really what is being discussed. The subject is the owners meetings and the discussions of what the league will do about player protests. It's going to be contentious and ugly according to some league observers. I don't think it's rare. Teams / franchises want to and try their hardest to win, succeed and ultimately keep their jobs. They aren't unique in this regard.
  17. This is probably true, as for some other QBs as well. The only thing that matters is if the Bills like and draft the player. The rest will play out, like him or not.
  18. At the time of the SB win, most would have considered Flacco to be franchise. He still has to be considered a success, but he is no longer a franchise QB imo. Once franchise doesn't mean always franchise in the NFL.
  19. The NFL absolutely IS an employer, by the way. Many people are employed by the NFL, not individual teams. The NFL has some limited anti trust protections, it may be a minor factor but not much. The President may have reignited a dying issue with his comments, but that's not why this is a problem. Do you care much about Trumps opinion on protests? I'd bet many fans don't care either what he thinks about it. Jones is an owner that DOES care about his own opinion on it. Many other owners probably do as well. That's why it's being talked about and why it's likely to be an ugly mess. Not because of Trump.
  20. To be considered franchise, I'd expect multiple playoff appearances, division titles and at least one championship game appearance. That would constitute a success.
  21. The dominance ends.... when Brady retires.
  22. Probably not. The Bills were a fringe playoff team at 9-7, a record they finished with in 2014 and missed the postseason. They lack talent at WR, and OL depth is dicey. They won a lot of games early in 2017 while amassing takeaways on D. They look like a 6-7 win team talent wise, so Beane and Co still have a lot of work to do.
