  1. I'd lean toward the pick isn't available right now. I.e. The Gmen are holding out , probably until they see what CLE does at 1.
  2. Landry better? Anyway, too much to spend on a move up for a non QB. Well worn territory though, file it away in the book of Bills draft errors.
  3. Do we know that the Bills aren't willing to do this? Or that the Patriots are?
  4. The Pats do have holes to fill, Brady's blind side protection being an obvious one. There are good RBs in this draft. It's not all that crazy, as they didn't have much to spend in FA. Makes draft picks more valuable to them, and that's usually been their MO anyway. Picks and more picks.
  5. I don't think this is a reflection on the players performance. It's about where the FA WR market is going ( up up up), cost certainty of drafted players and what positions are valued most by GMs. It seems QB, pass rushers and pass protectors are the most valued positions, and many teams will recycle most skill position guys every few years . This WR class has produced ( unlike the classes since) and have been highly valued in the FA market by teams looking for them. The weakness of the current draft crop is a contributor to that as well.
  6. Coaches are trying to win. The rules changes favoring passing offenses have brought the game to its current state. The running game has been de valued and the players involved in it are now disposable role players save for a few standouts. The current focus on player safety ( new helmet rule could change the game as we know it) indicates this trend will continue. It's all about the rules of the game, as that's what coaches will look to exploit. It's not about visionaries looking to go against the grain.
  7. It's the only thing I can surmise. It fills the hole left by SWs departure cheaply this year. What else could it be? Again, the Rams MO right now appears to be win now, whatever the cost. One year can make a big difference in cap space. If the Bills needed to re sign a top WR this year they'd be SOL. Next year ? Looks a lot better. I felt KC practically gave Peters away, seems they let emotions get the best of them and just wanted him gone. Anyway, you don't get a huge window of opportunity in the NFL anymore. Look at SEA, just a couple years removed from back to back SBs.
  8. No, all players are not equal. The QB IS however, the great equalizer. There's no such thing as an NFL team without holes. You plug them as best you can ( ex Eagles had WRs on one year " prove it deals". Can't do that at QB) with FAs etc. You need QB, pass rusher, pass protector and pay the elite ones. All other positions are rotated in and out every couple seasons. That is the new NFL. You don't get to build a perfect team and keep drafted players together for years. That worked in the 80's.
  9. There is no hole on the team bigger ( or harder to fix) than the one at QB. Anything else can be found, including WR. If the pick is a bust, you draft another one in a couple years. That's much easier to do than it was pre- rookie cap. Get a QB when you can. That's this year.
  10. It's another year as opposed to spending $$ this year. They still have to pay Donald, their best player. You can question the wisdom of Les Snead and it's fair criticism. He appears content to kick the can down the road somewhat and wanted to plug a hole . Nothing the Rams have done points to careful planning for the future. It's this year and next for LA.
  11. They needed a WR to fill the Watkins role ( some Bills fans will be loathe to admit it) and the WRs you mentioned don't have that skill set. McVay knows this, but SW was going to be too expensive for their " load up for a SB run" plan. Hence the early interest in OBJ trade as well, but 2 firsts is pretty steep. They weren't getting a WR that could take the top off the defense with 23 in this draft. Cooks is a sensible replacement. The Rams are selling out at all costs to win a SB. Definitely not thinking more than a year or two ahead.
  12. Colts have a ton of holes, and there will be lots of action on QBs at the top of the draft. They don't need a specific player, and there's a fair chance their choice at 3 will be there at 6 anyway. Jets are going QB at 3, so it's really just two spots for the Colts to wait at 4 and 5. One of those may be another QB. It's not much risk at all for Colts GM Ballard, but it IS tremendous value. 3 second rounders almost for doing nothing. The Giants situation is different, as they seem to have some interest in a specific QB.
  13. If the Bills move all the way to #2 pick ( still a big IF) it won't be for Allen It's a fair question, but look at the move. It was 3 picks for 3spots, and the Colts aren't taking a QB. There was almost zero risk for the Colts losing out on any player, and are still in prime position to move down again. The Giants would be moving out of the top ten, so it's not an apples to apples thing. There's still talk of a QB for them at 2 depending on CLE pick. Seems they are in wait and see mode.
  14. No way this draft gets anything close to an A+ right now. The Bills moved up for Jones, and a hit in round one does nothing to absolve a round 2 bust if Jones doesn't pan out. Some decent value in the middle rounds makes this draft a B- for now. It will be downgraded if Jones isn't a productive WR for the Bills and if the roll of the dice by passing on Watson/ Mahomes comes up snake eyes in 2018 draft.
  15. Could throwing Gronkowski in the mix get a deal done? There have been rumors of a Gronkowski trade lately.
  16. Actually , the Bills moved up to draft that QB. He didn't fall to them.
  17. I think Cooks fills a need , cheaply. Beckham was out of reach and the draft doesn't look too good at WR. They are starting to mimic the Redskins and Les Snead is like a drunken sailor. I concur 100% on the Watkins option take.
  18. I disagree. Look at the performance of WRs drafted high in the last few years. Not much to write home about. 23 is good value for a proven NFL WR like Cooks. Watkins departure left a hole that McVay wanted filled. No WRs on Rams roster had that skill set. This move makes sense on a team loading up for a run. This will not happen. Of course.. " classic Belichick". So if the Bills select Lamar Jackson, it will be the cause of much hand wringing, face palming and calls for Beanes ouster. If the Pats select Jackson, it's pure genius.
  19. 3 2nds was the price paid by NYJ to move just 3 spots.
  20. Of course, Garrapolo was acquired for the lofty price of a second round pick.
  21. Teams don't have their final boards set. Players still making private visits for a couple weeks
  22. He said it's early yet and they probably will. Sounds plausible.
  23. Not my opinion. I was talking about NFL head coaches and what they might think of his twitter response to his college coach. I'm sure they think it's a great indication of his personality. I'll go out on a limb and say anNFL HC probably won't see it in as favorable a light as you.
  24. That's not the point. His response is the thing. It's not a good look.
