  1. Wanted to read the article, but I am not a WSJ suscriber. In the old days, you could Google the article's title and get find it for free. Didn't work today. WSJ closed the loophole. Damn Wall Street capitalists! Where's my free stuff? Not having read the article.. I'll say: Probably two things interplay to shorten shelf life: 1. the game is getting more physical 2. even the lowest paid player could live well for life on their NFL earnings (if they don't blow their money in foolish ways) Or, put in other words: your 1960's AFL player was actually playing to make ends meet; they went as far as they could, injuries or not. Today, a player facing life crippling injuries can say "I've got some money in the bank, I'm not going to risk my health when I don't need to."
  2. Wow, you are observant of posts. Well said re WEO v. Doc. I only want justice. Even when negative or positive for the Bros. in Blue. And justice for a bar fight may come across as a plate of spaghetti. Sorry.. that that's the best I could come up up with on short notice.
  3. There are two issues here. Broken law and crime was the excessive force stomping of people. "Reporting incidents" is PPD policy not law. Law trumps policy every time. Some people are making false equivalencies between law and policy, as in "he reported it late, so it doesn't count." Breaking your employers policy, not so cool, but it doesn't negate broken laws in the the same incident. And I'm not so sure the officer "late incident reporting" arguments are even applicable.
  4. This is like having a front row seat to a slow motion train wreck. There will be more JM incidents before this is over... and I don't think it will be good.
  5. So tell us your inside knowledge that PPD tried to push this thru. Could you be mixing PPD Police with PPD Union? Agree. This has been handled poorly.
  6. I was going to start a new thread on Bryan "Middle Finger" Cox. As a dutiful TBD member, I searched before starting a new thread. I got: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14859759/bryan-cox-atlanta-falcons-says-apologize-shoving-arizona-cardinals-scout Dude needs some prazosin pills.
  7. Agree. I think some people are advocating a combination of yards penalty and the player sitting out.
  8. Conjecture. If I were suffering from an orbital fracture, getting to the hospital would be my first concern. Playing cellphone tag with my supervisor at 2 AM would be low on the list of things to do. (also, these were not patrol officers with someone on duty 24/7 to call)
  9. Other than a few games suspension for Shady, nothing is going to come of this. Shady and crew were douche bags but not hardened criminals. The unwise OFPD will also pay an unwritten price, as JohnC points out, Nothing good happens after midnight.
  10. I call bull ****. There is no off duty police officer who doesn't carry. None. For eternity, you run the ever present danger of running into someone you've busted who hates you likes there no tomorrow. No police officer off duty is without a firearm. By necessity.
  11. Thanks 26. I'm not a strident proponent of diversity.. but from practical experience, I know successful organizations need it. (long story omitted) Yay for the Bills, KP and TP. This deserves a new thread.
  12. There's some there there. I hope the thread is continued by some experienced football people,
  13. Oh my. Mascarpone, organs, breasts, guns (assumption), mascarpone (again). I do envy your experience. Apology not needed. Though pics would suffice.
  14. Calling a reliable 9-11 is a nice comfort zone. Except if you have one that puts you on hold. I'd love to call a responsive 911.. not everyone has one though. 911 idealized response should not be part of the judicial equation here.
  15. Well stated. But I fear the combination tabloid media and brain dead readers = ridiculous.
  16. Ryan L. could don the red "No Contact Jersey." Ryan could also evolve to modern times. It's not Policewomen and Policemen.. it's just Police. I give Ryan credit though, Cops is street talk.. police is the more appropriate nomenclature.
  17. Yep. It's two, count them, two politicians trying to make a name for themselves. People in this thread act like those two accurately represent the opinion of the entire UK. Does anyone know how to critically read the media anymore? I checked Reddit and FB: most Brits are embarrassed by these two. And there are Brits who participate on the Stadium Wall, they should find the simpletons in this thread to be quite offensive. Cut the UK some slack. We don't have many friendly reliable allies, but the UK is one (even after BHO's snubbing of them over the past 7 years).
  18. Agree on the booze, top shelf or no. But bottom shelf beer.. doesn't offend me so much. I don't know why. If it were Genny Screamer's I'd still come come back for more. I'm warped.
  19. If Shady only slugged, he might come out OK. From what I can tell, the person(s) facing the most trouble are ones who kicked a man laying on the deck, and/or anyone who may have used a bottle as a weapon. That exceeds self-defense bar room brawl. A beer bottle can do some damage. A champagne bottle does damage+. Champagne bottles are super thick glass to contain the pressure. The real person of interest here may not be Shady.
  20. Union writer. Good luck releasing him/her regardless of the quality of the product.
  21. $%$##@, this revolves around the red manbag he carried to the DA. The Butler did it in parlor with a champagne bottle.
  22. Nah, it was good. Carucci tweet (see YOLO 11:34) is interesting. I hope it's true. Addressing a hole at RB is not something desirable to do at this point.
  23. The Mayor's blathering made me wince. When you're the Executive, you limit yourself to boring statements like "justice blah blah blah facts blah blah, let the process play out, blah blah, will pursue all appropriate means blah blah." Allot like Rex speak at the combine. You don't make like BHO regarding the Cambridge Police. You don't make like the Baltimore DA regarding the Balt. Police. You don't make like Trump "I'm going to prosecute Hillary when I'm President" (if he's elected President, that statement makes it very difficult to prosecute HRC) You DO make like DA Sedita and Hamburg Police regarding Patrick Kane.
  24. 1-3, Well stated. I don't if know you're saying the police can influence, or if you're saying that's the common public perception. But I have faith the process will be neutral: Police - DA - Judges regard one another with skepticism. (YMMV by locale)
