Who is the best pass rusher we can get or available via trade
Brandon replied to Fred Slacks's topic in The Stadium Wall
I'm just saying that you don't have to try to be the #1 defense in the league every year and that its a lot easier to find players at their offensive needs with the limited resources that they have this year. I'd still look to CB early in the draft, maybe in R1, but also give the young players at DE a chance to develop before another major investment there. If it doesn't work out, you've got far more cap space next year to work with. -

Its the path of least resistance. Its a lot easier to build around the elite player that you already have than it is to try to find another elite player to be a difference maker on the other side of the ball. That's especially true when you have minimal cap space and are drafting towards the end of the round. Three of the four remaining teams in the playoffs are in the bottom half of the league in terms of yards allowed defensively. -

The Bills just had the #1 defense and got lit up anyway. For that matter, the Bills lit up New England's D twice late in the season...2nd in scoring D and 4th in yards. Top tier offenses these days are going to put up 30+ points more often than not, even against the better defenses in the league. Yes, a Bruce Smith type defender would be fantastic. Those aren't exactly common. A top tier pass rushing DE is going to cost $20M per year. The Bills don't have that kind of cap space right now. -

It does, indirectly. But I meant it in the context of providing Allen with more talent around him offensively to help him be the best QB he can be. I wish they could add an elite rush end, but I think it's the 2nd hardest position to find after QB. It's going to be a huge resource sink and you may not get the results you want. The Bills last couple of drafts are a good example of that, though I do think the Bills need to give those guys a chance before pushing the panic button. -

Yes, but I think Allen masks some weaknesses on that side. They're not particularly fast at WR and they don't have a run after the catch threat. They could be losing all of Sanders, Beasley and McKenzie. The pass protection and running game improved late, but they could certainly stand some help on the interior OL and an upgrade from Moss. Another factor here is that I think these problems are easier to address, too, especially in a tight cap year. You can find some bargain value at WR and RB in FA. Guards and centers can be found in the mid rounds of the draft. Add a CB and a slot WR with some run after catch skills with the first two picks. With that, you've plugged the major holes without breaking the bank, either in terms of cap space or draft picks. The young guys at DE would have to step up, but at some point, you have to trust your player evaluations. At worst, they should have much more cap room in 2023 to make a major move at DE if they have to. -

To be honest, I think a defensive focus is the wrong approach. They arguably have the best player in the league at QB. If it were me, I'd put the majority of my resources into supporting him with more speed and playmakers at the skill positions and improved line play, and aim to have a top 10-15 defense rather than trying to be #1. -

I agree, but I think the most likely outcome here is that they'll try to bring Hughes back on a one year deal. -

It would be nice, but I can't see anyone being willing to part with an elite pass rusher. They're almost as hard to find as QBs. As far as FAs are concerned, the Bills just don't have the cap room unless they're willing to seriously impact their ability to sign FAs in future years. Realistically, I think they sign a late career veteran to a relatively inexpensive one year deal as a situational pass rusher and hope that one or more of Rousseau, Basham and Epenesa turn the corner in their development. If not, then you go after a higher tier FA in 2023, when the Bills are projected to have a lot more room to work with. -
Cordarelle Patterson. He's 31, so he shouldnt be expensive, but he brings versatility as a 3rd down RB, WR and at worst is a good kick returner.
-
They've done that a handful of times this year at the end of the first half. I don't think they've ever had a positive result from it. I'm not normally one to call for a firing, but this idiocy has now cost the Bills one of the best chances at the Super Bowl that they've ever had. I realize that it's not going to happen, but I think maybe Frazier should lose his job for this one. There's no excuse for losing a game where you score two come-from-behind TDs in the final two minutes.
-
I agree. They might be able to slow KC's offense down a little bit, but I'm not sure its realistic to expect to shut down that offense. They're going to get their 30+ points. The Bills can't ignore the D, but for the most part, they'd be better off playing to their biggest strength...#17....and adding more speed, more playmakers, and an improved OL.

Honestly what do you do moving forward?
Brandon replied to Milanos Milano's topic in The Stadium Wall
I think they need more speed at WR, specifically someone who can make plays after the catch. The CBs definitely need some work and I wouldn't be opposed to a R1 CB, but I think they're not as bad as they looked tonight. Otherwise, keep adding offensive linemen and hope the young DEs develop. In terms of the latter, they were getting some pressure on Mahomes, but just weren't able to bring him down. -
Well, the defense is, I'll grant you that. I think most of us knew the defense wasn't as good as their #1 ranking, but that was something else. The Bills defensive performance was absolutely putrid tonight. There's no excuse for blowing two go-ahead TDs in the last two minutes of the game, including one with 13 seconds left, but damn if this bunch didn't do it.
-
Allen and Davis played two of the best games at their respective positions that I've seen in a long time. And Allen engineered TWO 4th quarter come from behind TD drives, only to have it squandered by that idiotic prevent defense.
-
That final 13 seconds should get him fired. Its absolutely inexcusable to blow the game with that prevent defense garbage.

Divisional Round SATURDAY: Bengals at Titans, 4:30 on CBS
Brandon replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall
That's one of the worst calls I've ever seen. -
Yeah, I agree. Hardly any wonder that he's won over his teammates to the extent that he has with the way he actively tries to share the spotlight with them.
-
Just based on what we can see, Allen seems like the type of guy who puts in the effort to be an elite player, takes the blame on himself when things go wrong, shares credit with teammates when things go right and is obviously willing to take some big hits to ensure the success of the team. That's the type of guy players are going to rally behind and who can motivate his fellow players.

Was this the best performance from a Bills offense we've ever seen?
Brandon replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall
This was one of the greatest offensive performances in league history, not just for the Bills. -
Unless the weather plays a major factor and turns it into a low scoring game, I don't think Pittsburgh has much chance at all.

2nd and 3rd quarter…….we should’ve been a run 1st offense
Brandon replied to streetkings01's topic in The Stadium Wall
I agree, it was mostly the wind, but even going into the wind, there were three more passes that could have easily been TDs. Two where the receiver only got one foot down and a third where the Jets DB interfered with Diggs in the endzone that forced a FG attempt 0:04 left in the half. -

I don't like the call, but it worked. Or, it would have, had the DB not gotten away with obvious DPI/holding. -

Still have to get both feet down. It looks to me like Diggs only got one. -
I NEVER WANT TO SEE THE QBR STAT EVER AGAIN!!!!
Brandon replied to Protocal69's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes, QBR is total garbage and always has been.
