Who will be HC next year?
Just in Atlanta replied to Dragonborn10's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Maybe the "sweet smell of Tom Coughlin" has by now overtaken the "stink of Jauron"? Not advocating it one way or another, but I do remember how much more energy the team showed when Fewell took over. Also remember, as at least one poster here pointed out, some of you all bitchin' about Fewell's D. In addition, I thought yesterday's team didn't show as much energy as the Colts did. Disappointing. But isn't this moot? Barring an epic collapse, hasn't Nix already said Gailey was in one more year? And.. are we just being fickle here? Two weeks ago all of us--myself included--wanted Wanny's head on a pole. Now, the D is playing with fire, and the offense sucks. Now, few are talking about firing Wanny and nearly everyone is talking about firing Gailey. If this offense hits all cylinders for the remaining games do we still call for Gailey's head? What about the D? If it continues its hot streak, do we forgive Wanny for the epically bad D the first half of the year? Do we look at Gailey's horrible record with the Bills, or his potential? Bottom line, my call is both of these guys do just enough to save their jobs, and that enough of us will be duped into the potential part. Ownership doesn't seem to have a handle on how to run anything. Year Four of the Rebuild is upon us. I don't see any major changes coming, other than a QB in the draft, who will probably need a year of mentoring anyway. -
Punting with 3 mins left
Just in Atlanta replied to Livinginthepast's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It's easy for us to sit here after the fact saying what he should've done. But, yeah, I was blown away that we punted on the 40. Seems as if it was worth the shot at the time and now. -

No opinion on the 90s throwbacks. (Feels weird saying 90s and throwback in the same sentence). But I would want to see them get rid of those fugly white collars. Such a stunning uni, only to be sullied by what looks like a rugby shirt underneath.

Wish someone would take that 52-second string of comedic bumbles with some cut ins of Rex saying Unf***ing believable with the Bennie Hill theme. Someone with video skills, please make it happen.

Disappointed I can't read this paper's stories anymore due to the paywall. Just don't see the point in paying for access for (football only) articles in a paper that doesn't cover where I live. How many readers does this site send to the Buffalo News, increasing ad views? Seems like a bad policy. Maybe readers can copy and paste entire articles here, assuming that's not a violation of TBD policies. Can't be the only person frustrated by this.

NE Patriots @ NY Jets - Go P.....

Who do you want to win tomorrow NE vs Jets?
Just in Atlanta replied to Jim in Anchorage's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The more the Jets lose, the more of a chance we have to get into the playoffs. Go Pats*! Yeah, I said it. Can't bring myself to root for Brady. But yeah, go freakin Pats. Oh yeah, and go Stephen Gostkowski, my fantasy kicker. My dream: NE 30 (10 FGs) Jets 2. -
NFL should eliminate PAT kicks
Just in Atlanta replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
An automatic point? Why doesn't every team just get a magic point just for showing up? No thanks. I would be happier with more 2 pt conversion attempts, as well as more 4th down tries, and fewer punts, though. -
Bills vs. Steelers 1/2/05
Just in Atlanta replied to section122's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We lost to backups. Good ones, OK. Maybe even great. We needed the win to get in. They were not only in but had homefield locked. End of story. No more excuses from this fanbase, please. -
ESPN.com's NFL Playoff Calculator is out!
Just in Atlanta replied to ThurmasThoman's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Fascinating. I pegged losses against Seattle and NYJ and still found a reasonable way to make it to a 6th seed (against Baltimore). It appears as if Indi is more crucial than I even thought before. Man, that Titans loss might really make a lot of us sick next month. -
Matt Stafford / Lions Implosion
Just in Atlanta replied to jumbalaya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Run game sucks. Secondary, suspect. And the offense is basically M. Stafford throwing the bomb to C. Johnson. No rhythm to this offense at all with the games I've seen. -
Thanks for this thorough analysis. Gives me hope that not only he can dominate, but that this team will have a shot at making a Wild Card. On another note, he may not be as impactful as Reggie White, but at $100 m, he sure ain't a "poor man's Reggie White."

WE WON!!! [Thank your favorites thread]
Just in Atlanta replied to Storm Front's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That defense really fit it up. More please. (Who's Meatball? K. Williams?) Welcome! That D was what I was expecting in preseason. Could be the most fun game I've ever watched with no offensive TDs. -
Spiller is effing rediculous
Just in Atlanta replied to Over 29 years of fanhood's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had a monster game against a tough run defense. 4.1 YPC, 91 yards, 20 long. He tried to make some plays, and was shut down in only a few. When Freddie comes back, and getting 25 percent of the carries (hopefully), CJ's YPC will go back up. -

Keys to tonights Bills v Phins Game

Unless miracles happen, our D isn't stopping Reggie Bush. Still think we pull off a win though. Gut feeling. -
Like I said, he's a capable stopgap who can win games with a decent D. He will be a steller backup and mentor (hopefully for the Bills) when we draft a QB. Like the OP, I also love this QB. But clutch is hardly a descriptor of him. Roethlisberger is clutch. Even if he's playing a bad game, he will, 80 percent of the time, make the big play in the end to seal the deal. Fitz, even when he's playing good, will, 80 percent of the time, make a mistake to lose the game.
-
If our defense played at just a mediocre level this year, we would be 5-4, in second place, and in the thick of the playoff run. Fitz is a capable stopgap. He's a leader, but he can't be expected to put up 30-plus points a game.

I'm not one to second guess individual play calls. It annoys me to no end when fans do it--hey he should've done x, or y. But I remember asking myself why we weren't putting the ball in Spiller's hands on that last drive, package be damned. What I don't understand, though, is how rushing three (which the Pats were) isn't good for running the ball.
