  1. I've said this many times here--the team that first cuts punts and FG attempts down dramatically--intelligently, not recklessly--will prosper. It would also be interesting to see more onside kicks. Read this stat many times, don't have a source, but the success rate of onside kicks in the 3rd quarter is about 60 percent. I've never understood why coaches are so conservative. Maybe it will take moneyball and someone like Chip Kelly to turn the old, boring model upside down.
  2. Not so funny aside: I thought you meant all of our 12 TDs, not the year, and believed it.
  3. When a columnist reports news, he's a reporter--the reader still expects him to get his facts straight. When a reporter tweets something, it's still news. The medium doesn't, or at least shouldn't, matter.
  4. Either way, this seems like our best chance for a premier coach in a decade. I think Buffalo this go-around is going to be attractive to a defensive mind (potentially dominant front 4, future shut-down corner, Pro Bowl safety) or an offensive mind (CJ, Fred, Stevie and a decent O line AND the chance to groom a QB of his choosing) not to mention the fact that fans would worship him by merely bringing us to a Wildcard PLUS the potential for doing better is extremely high and doing worse is nearly impossible.
  5. Lovie and Chip...sounds like an 80s sitcom. Would love for this to happen, but with a gazillion teams looking for coaches, it likely won't happen. Hey, he looks pretty good in blue...as a DC.
  6. I hate to say it, but Lovie Smith. The guy is a winner, but has ignored his offenses repeatedly. A gazillion OCs, lackluster schemes, a criminally bad O line and a QB who gets abused on a weekly basis. The only way I'd be happy about Lovie is if he brought in a true innovator on offense. I don't want to see our team become one that relies solely on D.
  7. I think he was out for less than a year. He was the OC for KC before this.
  8. Didn't know we had an AP guy in our ranks. Not a PPP thing, just a post to show it's more than NFL writers, and that journalism as a whole is on the slide.
  9. It's not just NFL writers. Two rules of journalism: Be accurate and impartial. Journalism as a whole, and I was a reporter, has been sullied by political and social bias for decades. 90 percent of my last newsroom was dominated by one particular political ideology. It's even higher when you get to the top. Some might disagree here, but frankly the bias is palpable, provable and not even debatable to any news consumer capable of looking at things rationally. Now, thanks to social media, it's sullied by not being accurate. There were nine major errors in that Sandy Hook shooting, all stemming from a drive to be first in the real-time media world of Twitter. And forget about reporters actually developing sources anymore and getting real scoops--like Reid's next stop. It's all rumor mongering. Rumors are simply repeated. Half are true. Half are false. And all of us learn to take what the media say with a grain of salt. Sad. Tim Graham, btw, seems to be a rare exception.
  10. No Haslett. My only concern with Lovie--and it's a big one--is that his offenses with the Bears have sucked. I really, really want an innovator either at HC or OC, not another Dick Juaron.
  11. No one can guarantee a QB until we have a coach.
  12. I've always wanted to see an NFL coach who would go for it on 4th far more often than not when you're within 60 yards of the endzone. Firm believer the numbers would ultimately work in favor for you in the long run. The mental impact on the opponent when you convert is far worse than the mental impact on yourself when you don't. Plus, it puts the defense continually in stress, and wears them down. A Chip Kelly offense, which runs a lot more plays, and faster, would add to that. I think I'm definitely thinking good thoughts about Kelly in Buffalo. Can't wait to see the bowl game tonight--haven't seen a Duck's game all year.
  13. I'll see for myself when I watch the bowl game tonight, but he runs about 15 more plays than even the fastest offenses, and spreads the spread as far as it can be spread, from what I've seen. Anyone else want to chime in?
  14. Bruce Arians HC Lovie Smith DC Chip Kelly OC Make it so.
  15. Don't know what's worse--a junior varsity team that sits at the kiddie table or a fake team made in China.
  16. I hate it when people say stuff like this and don't provide explanations. Is there some connection? Is he saying Buffalo always signs journeymen QBs? Or that his playing style would suit the team? I don't see how Smith would be a fit at all.
  17. Why do we want this? The guy seems like an average QB, capable of thriving with a particular offense and stout D but not capable of winning games himself. We already have someone like that.
  18. Most coaches weren't good players. Fitz seems to have a solid grasp of the NFL, and is a leader in the locker room.
  19. Having a real innovator on our team is intriguing. Does this guy have the knowledge to run an NFL team, though? Wouldn't a team rather start him off as an OC first? Either way, I think he would like the idea of picking and molding a QB from scratch instead of working with a journeyman. This is going to be an interesting month to see who we interview. Excellent points. This team should have made the playoffs this year with its talent and a poor AFC. De ja vu all over again, but I'm kinda excited now about our possibilities--sound familiar?--now that we have talent and good draft positioning.
  20. He's upset because of the running back committee he had in SF. Coming here would be ten times worse. We already have the best duo in the NFL and one of the most exciting RBs we've seen in a long, long time. No way.
  21. That we Bills fans deserve more.
  22. Hell yeah. Also hear Bobby Petrino is looking for a job.
