  1. What ever Reed's weight, he was barreling right at Brady. A collision, IMO, would have hurt Brady more than Reed. It was more stupid than dirty. That's my point.
  2. Think people are overreacting here. He had a 300 pound monster barreling in on him. The chance of him getting seriously hurt from that move was substantially higher than the defender.
  3. Atlanta, with the best record in the NFL, is getting no love here. Including from me: SF over NE*.
  4. If you want to vote on this nonsense, and I know you do, do so here.
  5. I was about to quote a line from 1984, but that would be a cliche. You have no idea what freedom is. PC freaks are, on a daily basis, taking away free choice out of fear of offense. Enough of this jibber jabbering for me. Turning off the computer to watch the Pats get beat.
  6. You're really asking me how political correctness has taken away freedom and free choice? California mandating gay history. Colorodo mandating that private daycare centers must carry dolls that represent at least three different races. A RI town banning daddy-daughter dances. Schools calling Christmas trees holiday trees. Municipalities banning Nativity scenes. Universities banning the word freshman. Universities banning certain words and requiring that students take inclusion training. Kids getting expelled for hugs and drawing guns. Censorship of various books. The Rooney Rule. Do you want more? .
  7. Apologies to the OP for being one of the posters who turned a thread about the Hogettes into a debate on political correctness. I have a strong view on this subject, that offense over the name redskin is manufactured, and that people who are offended by a term that mentions someone's skin color are overly sensitive. I also feel political correctness is one of the biggest threats to freedom, as it makes us overly sensitive and prone to collectivism over the individual--I have tens if not hundreds of examples--and that this redskin thing is symbolic of the path we're taking. But I would hope we could be reasonably civil about this.
  8. Please do not respond to others' posts for debate purposes. This is a poll, not a debate. Here's one lively thread for pokin sticks.
  9. Hey--just a poll. The sentiment threads will be crucial Bills events only. Hopefully when we search for sentiment, or what ever the term will be, only a few posts will pop up rather than 100s. Not to be sarcastic, but simply because I'm interested in the majority viewpoint here. No illusions here that I'm Zogby. Did I just break my own rule by responding to someone?
  10. After some debate in a previous thread about the Skins changing their name, I'm curious: What do the majority of TSW posters think? Just one rule, as with "sentiment" polls in the future: Please do not respond to others' posts. Just vote, and offer your on-topic opinion if you want to. There are many other threads where we can poke sticks in each others' eyes... *Mods: I thought about putting this in PPP, but as this is an NFL policy issue, not a political one, I opted for here. Hope you agree. **For the second question, you can select more than one.
  11. Now we're getting nasty but I'll bite. You really think hordes of people are offended by the term redskin? In this age when everything is dictated by political correctness, when people are routinely fired for saying ill-advised but harmless off-color jokes, when (read the examples above)? We'd have people boycotting, screaming, marching. It's manufactured.
  12. I see your point, but it's manufactured. No one uses that term anymore. If we had a team called the "Darkies", everyone and their moms would be screaming in the street. You don't see that here. Yeah, there are some oversensitive types, but it's mostly intellectual types who overthink **** to the point of exhaustion. If we truly trace the history of words, we'd probably find half of them are offensive to someone. It's not about not changing ways. It's about being afraid of offending anyone. This fear morphs into real life and public policy--not just football--and takes away our common sense to the point of absurdity on a near daily basis.
  13. Would offend pacifists. PC types want to dictate how we talk, act and even think. UNC is banning the term freshmen (not inclusive). University of Maryland has a list of banned words with a mandatory inclusiveness manual students must read. Cranston RI has banned daddy daughter dances (gender discrimination). Kids are routinely expelled for drawing pictures of guns or even hugging. The publishers of Huckleberry Finn have banned the so-called n word. Nativity scenes were banned this year in Santa Monica. It goes on and on--it even wants to intrude into football. If you're offended by the term redskin, the world must be a pretty scary place for you.
  14. Points out the absurdity of political correctness with absurdity. If you don't get that you truly are a PC disciple.
  15. Viking was once a derogatory name too. "Look here come those damn Vikings to pillage our town and rape our women." Political correctness sucks.
  16. OK, now that that's settled, let's start getting some more input on how to run this thing...
  17. The Terrorist threat level is funny. In a few days after reading these, I'll post the rules. If you have concrete ideas on measuring sentiment like this, please hit me up. (An aside: As per being held accountable for views we now know is stupid, I'll say I hated the CJ Spiller pick.)
  18. On another note, I'm not a big fan of number polls. (from 1 to 10, how do you feel...?) One man's 10 is another's 5. NYT never gives out top ratings to restaurants. Other papers do. But this is our site. If you want it, we can do it.
  19. I agree with not having a schedule. Big events, and crucial periods, only. The fewer we have, the easier it will be. My point is, I don't want to have 12 a year--I want just a few so we can look back and think "What were we thinking" or "Damn I'm smart." I agree. Keeping snark or sarcasm out will be tough. But hopefully we won't have debates or yelling. Just pure well-reasoned opinion. I'll be sure to post rules, which, of course, a handful of posters will ignore...but hopefully will be followed by most. Of course!
  20. To clarify, this thread is not for the sentiment but to talk about our sentiment for "officially" measuring sentiment in the future. Mods--if you're on board with this, please say how we could do this. Don't quite understand the procedure. Do we pin it? Or do we have some magical official stamp? Or just do nothing special, other than a "sentiment" tag? I presume I can close a thread myself?
  21. No specifics yet, but rather thinking maybe some well-designed polls and questions or something like that. After closing, we'll measure it as smartly as possible. Any ideas here would be welcome. But I don't think it's rocket science. Just one place for a limited time where we can officially bloviate, and some sort of follow-up where we try to show any trends.
