I think he’d be in the discussion like Stevie was. The offense can be functional with him doing his role but he’s not a guy that keeps a DC up Saturday night like about 15 others might. its not that he’s a bad receiver, just that he’s below average in that slot, so you want to make sure you at least stack an extra deep group to ensure mismatches. If Beasley is great and Allen gets in a rhythm with him and zay reaches his potential and foster takes the top off it’s a good 4 but I’m guessing it just ends up fine. Not a strength not a weakness. In a passing league it’s nice to have it be a strength though.

Hes in a dome, in the nfc south, plays a relatively safe style... I think if he wants to play, he could likely be a 39-40 year old type barring major injury. He’s not having to get zip on a ball in Chicago wind or getting up in 20 degree weather after a big hit. i don’t see him getting out younger than Ben, rivers, Eli, heck even drew at 39 had a major shoulder injury and is still rolling in a similar situation. I’ll leave Brady as an outlier

Hes among the least accurate around.

2016 NFL Draft Grades: Shaq Lawson Is Graded at a D+
NoSaint replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If C is average, I’d say it’s fair to hit him as average to below average, without doing a deep dive for bust rates to compare. Dudes a solid player even if not spectacular but to take a guy with a known injury that wipes out a year of his 4 with you...well, he has to be good in the other 3 to make up for either the risk calculations or flubbed medical exam. I get that any guy guy could go tear an ACL the day after the draft but with a known injury there’s got to be an expectation of more upside with the added risk. He was on my shortlist with the assumption he wasn’t a medical risk- so it’s not that I had hard feelings or dislike his play today either. -
Ultimately, I think it’d come down to what you think of a guy like mario. Pricey, and not huge sack numbers but excellent all around player and freakish athlete that can get a power rush from the edge while maintaining responsibilities in the run game, or even athletic enough to drop. In a 43 scheme like ours, those guys are great for being both productive while also freeing up other all over the field. Only so many can do it all instead of just being speed off the edge or stout vs the run. Hes not a guy I break the bank for if paying a qb already but in this situation his a textbook fit for us I think

If he can repeat his “down year” from last year the raiders would be thrilled to have the headache. and I’ll push back lightly on the idea that no #1s were available. I’d venture at the right price not just OBJ and AB but Julio and Green probably could’ve been a discussion. I’m sure pursuing the league I might find 1-2 more candidates.

I’d assume 33 not 1

Dak Prescott seeking new extension worth $40M per year.
NoSaint replied to BillsFan4's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
It seems in the QB world that being middle of the pack effects length more than annual pay. These guys get paid top 5 but year to year structuring often... even though the GM clearly isn’t brave enough to move on so it’s essentially guaranteed unless they flop to a top 3 pick -
Bingo. It regularly blows my mind how many here think we’ve nailed it with this regime but also think our window is years away. If you aren’t willing to put some chips on the table now, I don’t know when you will. I agree beane is thinking in these terms despite many citing it not being process-y
-
Ultimately, gunner, do you think his pay changes drastically? 9 or 15 sacks he’s getting paid as essentially the top DE in the league. It’s not like he’s suddenly doubling his pay, at most it’s an extra 5-10m over the contract right? It’s not going to shoot him from 20 to 30 mil per year
-
Youd quite literally be spending the high pick hoping to get a guy not as good as this. Because we are not spending on a qb, we don’t need to horde picks and pray for luck. We can go get the guy we need and win now. Ill keep echoing- if you think josh, McD and beane are the trio; then you need to think we are contenders now and be making moves to put a trophy in the shelf within the next 18 months. to the guy talking about the pats- it’s just apples to oranges. You need to be looking at the rams, and eagles, or the 9ers and Seahawks of a couple years ago. We need to be that team that fans in Tampa bay and Arizona say “how do they keep adding these guys.” At the end of the run if josh is the dude then you retool into a pats style model. It’s not who we should be today though.
-
Long term we have as much need as any for a DE, and I’d venture the trading team will have bones of a deal in place with his agent. So i guess ultimately I disagree on both major points you are making.
-
Ultimately if you think josh is the guy you are in your 2-3 year window and outside QB getting a stud DE might be the biggest impact and we CAN and SHOULD spend a little belligerently for a minute. If not him, I’m down for other suggestions but he seems the prototype for us.
-
Hes also doing a lot more than just getting after the QB adding him to a line with Oliver, Starr and Hughes would have potential to be top of the league ala our best year with Kyle, dareus, Mario and jerry. For a DC that’s running a pretty basic system a front 4 like that goes a long way to being able to drop 7 and still being able to both stop the run and put pressure on a qb.
-
Hes big, versatile, and at a key position where we don’t have a long term plan. And exactly in our win now window. im not holding my breath but it makes a ton of sense if it happens
-
It wouldn’t likely be a rental for whoever gets him
-
Honestly, most of us have probably been in a car with each of those at some point, unfortunately luckily, despite the obvious risk, you are still very likely to make it home. That said.... I’m not trying to get in either car... and the extent of the texting makes a big difference in this comparison.

They could sit any of them they want at any time they want. You don’t need an elaborate exaggerated concussion protocol to do so I take back any nearly nice things I’ve said about you
-
If he is still in protocol, real or top secret fake protocol, through next week I don’t think it’s going out to far on a limb to say that it’s a substantial news event for preseason football. It’s not like resting a guy with a strained muscle or rolled ankle a few extra days. Telling the media he still can’t pass recovery tests after a month is noteworthy.
-
In your hypothetical- That he’s hung up in protocol for nearly a month is a much bigger media story than he’s good and taking some vet time along the way Its clearly conjecture but given the current situation and info available it’s not wild speculation. Speculative for sure but not crazy out of line with a guy with several concussions and now long term in the protocol again

The Curious Disappearance of 26 Cornerblitz

Yea- I tend to come here with a few self guidelines. I know a fair bit but plenty here can talk above my level and I’ll eagerly admit to learning something. I’m probably about average on actual in depth bills knowledge these days as I’m less connected to buffalo personally lately.. I’m ok with X and Os but like to think that wide angle discussions on league trends and things that are broad based Nfl I’ll dig in a little more on my takes. That dude would go down with the ship and be condescending about it even on things that were clearly not in his wheelhouse. Such is life. We all unreasonably seek validation in our own kooky ways I suppose. Hopefully he’s on to a version that’s better. -

Think it was boyst. I wasnt a big fan of his but I wasn’t on the high end of the haters either. Just didn’t think the thread starting was that helpful (the news will make it here either way). Outside of that just thought he was a bit condescending without backing it up without exceptional insight. But heck, I can be guilty of that -

Yuuuup. and the only way someone starts thaaaat many copy/paste threads is wanting admiration. eventually the frustrated folks outweighed the appreciation. so be it. -
To be fair, that’s relatively average CB3 in a league where you have 3-4 on the field most of the time. If the goal is top 2, thats bad. If he’s option 4 that’s far from a yikes stat
