  1. This is why you don’t operate without a GM. What an awful day all around.
  2. Clowney really didn’t want to go there and the dolphins really wanted to upset their locker room still eh?
  3. Much like beane praising duke as not many guys he’d rather have on a jump ball, I’d take with a grain of salt “does everything, great guy, player and expect big things” a few weeks before cutting him with a grain
  4. I think it’s also a touch of attitude. Think shady takes a 50-50 role, for instance? Or handles being asked for a wage reduction to reflect his new situation? youd have to pay and play him as a clear cut 1 and I’m not sure they loved either of those Expected completely, assumingely for the squad exemption
  5. I think if you grab a list of top running backs you’d be hard pressed to find any you would take shady over at this point. He’s at best average and certainly on the decline.
  6. Even you said WAS not IS
  7. This aged poorly. I’d drop singletary a few (200?) and bump gore (150), yeldon (50)
  8. And all those teams have guys that know their system too. he might go but even if he does there are a lot of good options to bring back
  9. Most teams have 1-2 WRs getting cut today that fans are really into. You just know ours. ‘Zactly almost every year we have 1 if not 2 WRs that get this thread. Yet it hasn’t registered that if we have it every year, probably most teams have similar.
  10. The hawks gave their 3rd qb his normal league minimum salary last year for the squad. Paying extra isn’t the issue. Paying him 2m was the silly part. Swap it to 400k and it’s a fine thread I guess
  11. Thats more than half of the roster and most of the WRs ?
  12. Having not seen everyone day in and day out, I don’t have a huge opinion on a guy like gore vs shady today but I think this board inadvertently backed this choice when it was near unanimous predicting like 800 yards
  13. Id bet substantial money he’s been calling people for a week now but he’s playing the PR game right still
  14. You think shadys ego lends itself to tucking his tail and coming back cheap as a role player after all the talk of how he’s the top guy With 31 other teams you are the top guy til you aren’t. This isn’t unique. Its an ROI issue. If he’s not impactfully better than the others, why pay him as an elite player? Go spend the dough on a guy that will hopefully move the needle more.
  15. It’s not shocking that a 31 year old back coming off a bad season on an expensive contract wasn’t in demand. Hed need a new deal unless a team was desperate and he strikes me as the type that wouldn’t be particularly accommodating to buffalo wanting to get assets in return. I had hoped he could be a minor sweetener for Clowney once their rb went down but.... put it another way- if there was an old back on a pricy deal out there today would you be eager to see beane looking at sending a pick for him? To who and for what? Note that his contract is important in the deal.
  16. I suspect his pride will get in the way (and may be why he isn’t on said reduced rate now)
  17. Were we never supposed to move on? How many years do we pay him top 5 pay without top 5 results expected?
  18. They have a bunch of good backs and hopefully we celebrate the savings with a more impactful player either now or in March
  19. And he did cash in. Bigly. Which is part of why he’s gone today- his maxed out dollars surpassed his ability. Ultimately, it’s a business. As long as they are being remotely reasonable- can’t fault either side on doing what’s best for them.
  20. It’s a terrible contract unless you think he’s still an elite back. I hoped Houston might have bit in a Clowney package. I suspect that may have been why we didn’t see the cut sooner. ive been saying for months he’s got to go because of it. It was common sense that you can’t pay him top 5 money for anything but elite production. Especially with a stable of serviceable players.
  21. Most free agents worth trading later will come with cap ramifications. At this stage in building I’d generally say we need to max out spend on the roster not buy day 3 picks. if something doesn’t work out may as well get value though.
  22. Because the competition moves slower and the windows are much larger in preseason you don’t need the arm talent. You surely don’t think the physical competition is the same throwing against... anyone... in preseason as facing all pros in a pivotal moment? I mean, I guess you could argue that in key moments he could learn just not to throw any big league throws ever.
  23. What if the issue is his arm not his brain? Can I learn to be an nfl qb?
  24. Maybe they already did this from 52?!?!?
