  1. Kind of sucks when our childhood heroes turn out to be jerks.
  2. Not even Christmas is sacred any longer. From 72 through 88, due to the "longest game ever" between the Chiefs and Dolphins messing up a lot of Christmas dinners, the NFL totally avoided games on Christmas. As an aside, in spite of game going 5-1/2 quarters, the actual run time was just over 3 hours 20 minutes. And the clock stopped on every out of bounds and incomplete pass. Commercials ran when there was a break in the action, they didn't break the action to run commercials. From 1989 to 2019, there were games on Christmas if it fell on Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. Since 2020, Christmas day games are the norm.
  3. So we had two 4th round picks in 2011. Are you upset about Hairston or Searcy? Both had decent careers for 4th rounders. Maybe it's this year's first round pick of the same last name as Hairston that has you so upset?
  4. Hated the Cardinals and by extension their ace Bob Gibson growing up. Or maybe it was Bob Gibson I hated and by extension the Cardinals. No matter, as the years passed I gained a whole new respect for the man. Best story I ever heard was the the second last batter he ever faced, Pete LaCock hit a grand slam off him. Gibson retired the next batter and never pitched again. 10 years later, in an old timers game, Gibson was in the dugout when LaCock came to the plate. Gibson ran to the mound and started warming up, telling Bob Feller to take a seat. He drills LaCock with the first pitch and shouts that he's been waiting 10 years to do that. The two went on to be Cardinals coaches at the same time, and never spoke a word to each other.
  5. Don't suppose you have any pictures you can post here?
  6. I beg of you, for the sake of all that's holy, please confine the mentioning of John Prine to music threads!
  7. 68, outside of a few years in college and a year in Austin I've spent my entire life in the suburb of Irondequoit. Front yard is the Northern border of the United States. As Teef says, outside of sporting or cultural events it's best to avoid the city... I drive 20 miles around it rather than 4 miles through it. A friend was talking to a cop parked outside a Walmart last week. Cop said Walmart pays him to be there. If a thief is 17 or under he can't detain them, can just relieve him of the stolen merchandise and release him. This Walmart is at the southern end or Irondequoit near the city border. If I need to go to Walmart I go to Webster. They say life is worth living there. As OB says, Rochester is a great minor league sports town. Red Wings, Amerks, and Nighthawks are all mainstays. Soccer is sporadic, every few years a team appears for a while. No shortage of neighborhood bars if that's your thing. As BP12 says, we're also a great golf town. $475 will get you a season pass to all 3 county run courses. Also a good mix of semi-private and private clubs. Fairport has the best utility rates as the municipality runs their own electric. They claim Fairport Electric uses no tax money, not sure if that's true or advanced bookkeeping. Where in Ma do you currently live? My brother runs the O family farm in South Hadley (outside Holyoke, a little South of Hadley.) Anyways sorry about the breakup, good luck wherever you end up.
  8. I guess 1997 and 2009 drunk driving convictions can be considered more mature than a 1988 cocaine suspension.
  9. 1975, Freshman year in college, someone asked the philosophy professor if he required papers to be typed. His answer stuck with me. Said you're in college now. For the rest of your life everything you do has your name on it. My expectation is that you're proud of your work. So no, I do not require papers to be typed. I simply expect that they will be.
  10. My last two were Mom and Dad. Both made it.
  11. Lost interest in a couple preseason games. Gave up on a couple regular season games. But always look forward to every game regardless of how meaningless they might be.
  12. Arrested for DUI in West Virginia? Thought it was illegal to drive sober in West Virginia.
  13. My brother and SIL live in Asheville. He's a centrist democrat, his wife makes AOC look like a conservative. Both of them admit more was done to clean up Asheville in the week following Trump's visit than in the 3 months following the Biden/Harris visit.
  14. There isn't much that could get me to stay seated during the national anthem, not sure if this would or not. Fortunately I didn't have to make the choice.
  15. Pretty hard to get happy after your story and this song. So sorry for your loss. This was my choice before listening to yours, never had heard it.
  16. Any tips? I'm excellent chipper and putter, but struggle off the tee.
  17. Meh, I'd rather have the 2 hours back. But that's me. You do you.
  18. Correct on both counts. Won a playoff game against the Bengals in 2012. Placed on IR just before the season opener in 2017, released after reaching an injury settlement a week later.
  19. Ordinary People Shawshank Redemption Field of Dreams Pulp Fiction My Cousin Vinny Good Will Hunting Edit: No one mentioned Good Will Hunting, so I replaced My Cousin Vinny with it. Both are great.
  20. The new driver clearly is contributing to his recent struggles. Missing everything to the right. He'll be free all weekend to work things out, maybe try a few different drivers. His driver was not tested Masters' week, but it did pass in March. A third of the field is tested each week. Results are supposed to be confidential, he refused interviews PGA week because the press leaked confidential information. I'll make room for the possibility that missing the Memorial had more to do with letting things die down than not wanting to play 3 weeks in a row. What I won't make room for is your suggestion that he was suspended. This was a ticket for gong 42 in a 35, not 100.
  21. Charles Romes. 9 year starter at corner, 4th in team career interceptions. Not bad for a 12th rounder. Don't think his post NFL life has gone so well.
  22. Who cares? wasn't an option so I didn't vote either.
  23. re Is this a low-key suspension by the PGA Tour?? - No. He likes to play the week before majors, he doesn't like to play 3 weeks in a row. He's playing at the Canadian Open next week. re Just a little more "smoke" that gives my theory that his illegal driver was more than from "regular use" a little more juice. - It really doesn't. re I remember a few years back when Dustin Johnson "announced" that he was going to take a six month break from the Tour to recharge himself, and the PGA went along with it until it leaked that he was actually suspended for six months for failing two drug tests showing Cocaine use. - I stand corrected. There you have it. Must be a one week suspension for Rory, nothing to do with his not wanting to play 3 weeks in a row. re Whenever Rory does come back, if he is not playing as lights out as he was before this situation, you really have to start to wonder.... - Sounds like you've already made up your mind.
