Draft Strategy. Play to Beane’s strengths!
RyanC883 replied to Johnny Hammersticks's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’ve thought about this also. Ideally if we didn’t have cap issues we could trade early picks for impact players. But this route is out. In terms of drafting later rounds, Bean does a good job, but not so much in finding impact players as contributing players (Jackson, Spencer Brown, Cook, etc). I think now we are stuck hoping Bean gets an impact player in Rd. 1 and 2. -
what do you think it would take to get him? my picks: Top WR, whoever that is, followed by top OT, then edge rusher.
-
this sums it up nicely. We didn't have a great OL last year, or WR depth. We failed to adjust to this. Going forward, we should fix the OL and WR, but will the coaches be able to adjust to what they have as the season moves along (injuries, players doing better or worse than expected, etc.)--or do they simply stubbornly stick to their "process/system." yet, KC still manages to get the 1 seed. Which is even more annoying that McBean won't play rookies. Enough of this veteran preference. How good would have Shakir been? Why did we not see Teller's potential and drop him? Just total mismanagement all around.

Today's version. My fav one yet: Dawand Jones OT Ohio State (big dude. Not only big, but athletic. Will instantly upgrade the OL. Day 1 starter.) Rashee Rice WR SMU (as someone said, we need another #1 WR, not a #2. Semifinalist for Biletnikoff award. Can do it all). Joe Tippmann OC Wisconsin (would be shocked if he lasts this long, but easy pick here getting the guy I think may be the top center in the draft) Will McDonald IV EDGE Iowa State (freaky athletic Edge player. Thought about DT here, but this guy is rated a top 5 Edge by some, and the only DT left from LSU was not a top 10 DT). Ronnie Hickman S Ohio State (great against the pass and run. Great Poyer replacement, IMO) DeWayne McBride RB UAB (led the nation in yards after contact. Here is our short yardage back, so Allen does not have to run all the time--and Dorsey can run it on 3rd and short)

i want OBJ. I fear we get OBJ, and watch Bean go safety, DT, Edge.

don’t get our hopes up!!

yeah, D. Henry is a dud. So is Barkley. It's providing another weapon for Allen so he doesn't have to do it all himself. Also, in a no-trade mock, Robinson is often by far the BPA. It's better than target positions of "need" regardless of skill, and end up with AJ, Boogie, and Groot.

Don't think "WR2" in the upcoming draft. Think WR1.
RyanC883 replied to Roundybout's topic in The Stadium Wall
agree. Try to find day 1 impact contributors. In my recent mock, there were zero day 1 guys, but RB Robinson was there. So i took him. Make this offense hard to defend by giving JA the most tools you can. (I then took OT in the 2nd) -
here is what I got today: 27. Bijan Robinson RB Texas (do I want a RB in the 1st round. No. But this guy is a top 10 talent, and will make the offense better, assuming Daboll commits to a running game. A day 1 weapon for Allen, and the only day 1 weapon available when I drafted). 59. Darnell Wright OT Tennessee (OT who allowed no sacks last year) 91. DeMarvion Overshown LB Texas (big 6-4 rangy LB. Edmunds replacement) 130. Trey Palmer WR Nebraska (fast, big WR. route-tree may be somewhat limited, but that should be fixable) 139. Jaquelin Roy DT LSU (Oliver replacement. Strong and can hold-up blockers and clog the middle) 205. Nathaniel Dell WR Houston (small, fast WR. Future Beasley replacement if he can develop a route tree. For now, may be a KR or a threat to take the top off).

Bills need to hit on picks to have a chance
RyanC883 replied to Niagara Dude's topic in The Stadium Wall
Totally agree. Unless the player is an impact-player that cannot be replaced (we have very few), we make the trade/not resign. KC traded Hill, got picks, then got a bunch of #2 WRs. Bean is wed to overpriced "process" veterans. So what to do: 1. No to Edmunds. Even at a "team-friendly" deal. Need the cap space. Sorry. 2. Trade White. While he is an impact player, we can get picks for him that should be used either to trade up and get an OT or WR, or to hoard and draft more IOL. White is replaced by Elam, Benford, Jackson. 3. Don't resign Poyer. Same thing. We have other safeties. Use the savings to sign a safety in FA that costs less. Poyer replaced by cheaper FA, rookie, or Benford. 4. Keep Davis. While he could return picks, he is on a rookie contract and will be a good #3 next year. Use the cap savings from the above to get OL and/or WR in FA, and then draft OL, WR, and LB and safety to replace the departures. Of note: the Steelers routinely let all-pro players walk at the end of their contracts. They had a system where they would plug another guy in. You can't keep everyone and the big money you spend needs to be on premium positions in your system on top 5 players at their position (Diggs, Allen, Milano, Miller). -
Josh Allen massive favorite in odds to win 2023 NFL MVP
RyanC883 replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
getting some OL and WR help will push Allen tremendously up the MVP ranks. -
perhaps not having to do it all himself will equate to fewer turnovers? would like a short yardage back at some point also. later in the draft.

I disagree here. The Eagles player held, but: (1) the ball was so overthrown it didn't matter; (2) no holding was called all game until then. That game was great until then, after that, it was like a TV series you watch that is great, and the terrible series finale ruins it (looking at you Lost)
-
Agree that Allen should have the Bills (if just looking at QBs) in the top 3, (actually 2, him and Mahomes are the best 2). The bolded: bad assumption based on our GM's prior performances!

I thought most of the board liked last year's show? https://nz.finance.yahoo.com/news/rihanna-did-not-paid-jaw-162139161.html the show is a huge free Ad for the artist.
-
the NFL chooses whoever will do it for free (they don't get paid); which is why it's generally hard to get a good performance. This year, we get someone who took a 5 year break from music and is using the halftime show to regenerate her career. The "positive press" is likely being fed by her PR team.

I enjoy this dialogue, but to me it was more than "the bounces" against Cincy this year, and the week before, almost lost to a team starting a rookie QB. The defensive scheme and/or personnel is not up to the task over multiple playoff losses, and the offensive weapons (OL and WR room in particular) and play calling are subpar. Can we close the gap: absolutely. But right now, there is a decent sized gap in the playoffs. you also had JuJu, Creed Humphrey, Hardiman, then Tooney, and Bolton is good. You reloaded better. Allen is important, but you can't win it by yourself. Sure, we can make the playoffs with him year in and out, but will never get to that next level without a team around him. Neither team in this SB was "all QB".
-
GM should be on the hot seat. Cap issues, and poor drafting to get impact players on rookie contracts. Also horrid at acquiring FA OL. Knox >> Rosseau and Cook.
-
nothing's "always" true, but in this case, the quote is vastly more true than not. KC and Philly both have better rosters, GMs, and coaches. KC didn't luck it's way into 2 wins in the past 4 years.
-
Bingo. We have missed on key draft picks (Oliver, AJ, Boogie, Groot-great #2 DE, not a guy you take at 19), and are in a bad cap situation. KC lost its top WR, brought in a bunch of actual #2 WRs (didn't simply "hope" that a guy with 3 good games would sustain an entire season like that), a playmaker WR on a rookie contract, and drafted well at OL and LB (Humphrey and Bolton).
-
I believe there is also a quote about luck by Thomas Jefferson to the effect of: those who work the hardest (in the NFL, that would be having the best players and coaches) get the most luck. Last night the Eagles D in the second half played basically our D, and the results were predictable. Our roster is not complete, and we have missed on impact players to put around JA and to rush the other QB in the draft, and as another poster indicated, we do not get the most out of our talent with our playoff coaching (playing soft zone with Elam as a CB, etc.). Luck plays a part, but far from the determining factor.

Could be, but it’s more like watching a great TV series and then it has a garbage ending (no holding called until then!). That’s what the holding call was for me.

hey, I said fined, not beheaded! how’d you edit that!!
