Bruce Smiths 200 Career Sacks, will it be beat?
Utah John replied to Mikie2times's topic in The Stadium Wall
White had more power, Smith had more speed. At the same time, White had good speed and Smith had power moves too, so the edge goes to whoever you want. They were both devastating. -
Spencer Brown placed on Covid List [Edit: Thurs 11/18]

So is Tommy Doyle viable as RT, to replace Brown? Anything that keeps Cody Ford on the bench sounds good to me. Feliciano can play center. -
NFL TV Schedule and Maps: Week 11, 2021

Romo and Nance are getting to the point where Madden and Summerall were back in the day. Madden almost had god-like status. If he said a player was good, or if he expressed an opinion about the league, most of American just nodded and bowed. Romo doesn't have that level of authority, yet, but he's getting there. -
4 Current Players already deserve to be on Bills All-time team!

Maybe Ed Reed. But no Bill was ever better at tackling. -

Well, yeah, because it WAS cool. -
It's the same story -- the most talented, flashiest players get the ink. The Bills defense probably doesn't have the best player in the league at any position, but it's the best overall defense because of the way they play together. Also the Bills don't get lots of sacks, and I certainly wouldn't mind improvement in that area, but they excel even without those sacks. Who has routed the Bills? No one. The only time the D faltered was when they wore down against Tennessee, and that was made possible only by the refs allowing three holds against our DBs on Henry's long run.

Let's have some historical perspective. None of the current O linemen is better than the O line during the Electric Company days. None (NONE) of the current offense is better than their counterpart in 1990-91. At every single position, that team had a better player than we have today. O line? No question. RB? Thurman and Davis both better than Singletary or Moss. WR? Reed and Lofton and Beebe (Diggs right now maybe beats out Beebe). TE? Metzelaars AND McKellar. And of course OJ at RB is the best player (IMHO) the Bills ever had, even better than Bruce Smith. The Bills have a 61 year history. On D their 64-65 team had an incredible line, all better than anyone on the today's team. The SB team D lines had Bruce Smith and some other guys, all good players but in comparison to Smith, JAGs. We've had GREAT LBs over the years. Too many to mention. And too many great DBs to mention. The current D is the best 11 man unit, for playing together and shutting down offenses, that I can remember. Kudos to Frazier for getting all these good players all working together so well. But individually, talentwise, none of the current team is superior to at least one and generally several players from the good teams we had in the past. Steve Christie is the best kicker we ever had, and Scott Norwood was also extremely good despite his famous miss. For punters, Paul Maguire (yep, the LB and broadcaster) was the most effective weapon we ever had, and Brian Moorman was excellent for many years. Finally, Steve Tasker. Nuff said. Quite a few current Bills are too new to challenge those older players but appear to have the talent to do so. Here's hoping they do! It would be great if some of them excel to the extent that they are honestly the best at their position all-time. By the way, no one has mentioned Ted Washington. Good Lord, if we had him now the Bills would go undefeated unless Cody Ford plays. -

I remember when there WASN'T a Miami team. I feel old all the time. -
Bills' Tyler Bass ranks as NFL's best kicker heading into Week 11
Utah John replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall
He can just learn to dropkick. No need for a holder. -
As I understand the rules, the player and the other team have to agree to the signing. Wildgoose could have stayed with the Bills on the PS. But the increase in salary is huge, plus this puts him on the Jets' 53 man roster where he's much more likely to play. He might bounce around to other teams after this year, or come back to the Bills, which is the path a lot of JAGs follow. They never pass up an opportunity to play, and to be paid.
-
He was better then. Most RBs don't stay good for long.
-
Bell is done. You could see his inability to run with power, make good cuts, or make quick decisions, on the few carries he's had the past few games. He had a great career but screwed himself up completely with his holdout. Should have been a Hall of Famer but now is just another retired guy.
-
Singletary's yards per carry (5.0) is great but deceiving. The other teams are shocked, shocked when the Bills run the ball. Their defenses are geared toward rushing the QB and stopping the deep passes, not preventing a RB from getting 5 yards.

This offseason, though, Beane better attack the OL better. Beane has actually invested a lot of draft picks and FA signings in the O line. He's just not done as good a job evaluating O line personnel as he has with other positions. Currently, two guards Beane discarded (Wyatt Teller and Quinton Spain) are starting for other teams and are playing better than the guards we have. We still have Cody Ford on the team (and we need to keep him for depth, but God help us if he gets in the games) and that just looks like Beane refusing to concede he missed on a second round pick he traded up to get.
-
They had to get back to New York State. What matters to our offense more than whether the opposing D plays cover 2, is whether our O line has five competent players all paying attention. If the O line played against the Jets like they did against the Jags, the game could have had an entirely different feel. If Brown's back acts up again, I'd rather see the other rookie tackle take Brown's place, than to have Williams slide back out to RT, bringing the deadly (to us) Cody Ford back on the field.

Gabriel Davis with Week 10’s Toe Drag Swag!
Utah John replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall
Davis last year and to some extent this year have been a master at toe drags. I'm surprised he doesn't trip just walking down the street, catching toes on the sidewalk out of habit. He isn't going to get a lot of snaps, not with Diggs, Sanders, Beasley, and Knox on the field. That's OK. Sanders is likely gone after this year (I'd like him back but he seems to move whenever the rent comes due) and Davis will slide nicely into the WR2 position. -
Most QBs don't get clean pockets most of the time. Most QBs have to evade rushers to get the chance to throw medium or deep passes. That's just life in the NFL. The Bills are actually above average in pass blocking, and that's more important than run blocking for the way the Bills play. The point being, the O line is not going to keep this team out of the SB.

The Bills lost to the Titans in Tennessee when they had Henry AND the refs let Henry run for a long TD without calling any of the holding penalties they committed. Also the Titans had Jones and Brown both healthy. And the Bills were very close to winning. Even if the Bills have to go back to Nashville to win the AFC, they match up very well with the Titans now. The Bills' weakness on defense is against a power running team (Colts so the next game will be tough), but without Henry Tennessee will have to go to the passing game, and defending that is the Bills strength. If the one seed drops into our laps, great, but two would still be OK. We would get two playoff games at home and then go to Nashville and win the rubber match. It's not catching Tennessee that matters at this point, it's catching Baltimore. Maybe the Ravens' gift calls from the NFL have ended -- they actually got called for delay of game in their last game -- so it's very possible they drop a couple more.

That's a pretty confident, self-assured woman who's OK with her husband telling the world she's 50. Good for her, and lucky for him.

Bobby Johnson: The Source of O-Line Issues (in my opinion)
Utah John replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall
Teller was released so we could keep Ryan Bates, IIRC. -
They traded Teller to keep Ryan Bates. In fairness, Teller wasn't Teller by then, but geez couldn't they see what the guy was going to turn into?

Can't we EVER put together the top offense we had last year with the top defense we have had in the past and seem to have this year?
