The increase to the military budget was 80 billion dollars and the tax cuts added about 200 billion to the deficit. That's nearly 300 billion added to the deficit that is completely self inflicted by the Trump administration's policies. The argument isn't that there would be no deficit because of the factors you mentioned but that Trump has ramped them up by 35% or more.

Honestly activating Taylor and cutting Peko is the only move roster wise the Bills can make that would have some sort of impact. The trade deadline passed and there wasn't a trade to be had and there isn't a vet on the market that can help. I think the odds of Taylor being anything more than a marginal upgrade are slim but at this point Peko is not a starting caliber or even rotation player. Taylor has at least a chance to offer you some improvement at a weaker point of the roster. I also think that Taylor is a bit better than your average PS player. He played well in his time in Miami although both his first two seasons were cut short by injury. I don't see the harm in trying something with the DT position.

Clear Sign Beane Doesn't Think We Are Ready
billsfan89 replied to Ghs24mike's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think The Rams spoiled the trade market giving up two firsts and a 4th for Ramsey. A lot of the teams holding the big players like Washington and Cincy were hoping to get a ridiculous return for their players based off of the inflated values other teams got for their players. I think it is unfortunate that Cincy was not open for business as Billings would have been a good grab to give the defense some reinforcements at a reasonable price. But to me it was clear that the only deals out on the market were overpays that would not have suited the interests of the team long term and would not have improved the team enough in the short term. -
Do the Bills ignore WR in the draft again next year?
billsfan89 replied to Troll Toll's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Next year’s WR class is looking very good according to the people who project these things. The other big need this team has (edge rusher) is likely going to be filled in free agency as there look to be a number of good edge rushers out on the market and the Bills have the cap space to go after a big fish and a couple of other modest contracts while not impacting their ability to secure their own talent to extensions. So if they take care of the pass rush in free agency WR will be the biggest need on the roster come the draft and in a supposedly good WR class that all lines up for them to add a WR early in the draft. I think in round 2 they then go to RT or TE to add another piece around Josh but WR will be a big add in the draft as it just lines up for the Bills to take one. -
Put Bills trade talks today here.

I would say that there is only a 30% chance a trade comes in. I think they want to do a trade for a WR and a DT but I don't think they want to give up a whole lot. I would love to see a 5th for Billings out of Cincy, low cost move that helps the defense become more stout up the middle and his deal is expiring. I would also like to see a trade for a WR but that is just not likely to happen. AJ hasn't played a snap this season and has been declining for multiple seasons. I don't see them ponying up anything more than a 3rd rounder for him and I think Cincy balks at anything less than a 1st. I think if a trade does happen it is going to be for a DT not a WR. -
Is Star Lotulelei A Liability on the DL?
billsfan89 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Especially since a space eating DT shouldn't come at a high cost. Billings out of Cincy would make the most sense. Low cost on an expiring deal and fills the need to get bigger and more stout up the middle. -
How do we fix the run defense?
billsfan89 replied to Brianmoorman4jesus's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They need to find a big run stuffing DT. That's the only thing that will prevent them from getting beat along the interior line consistently in the ground game. Oliver and Phillips are penetrators and not run stuffers. Star and Peko are not getting it done holding the middle against the run. The team needs to find a big run stuffer to take Peko's place. Not sure who is on the trade market but a run specialist DT shouldn't be that hard to find. It isn't a highly valued position and I am sure there is a out of contention team that could have a solid run stuffer that they would be willing to trade. -
This year's draft is supposedly ripe with WR talent so I doubt they will not get a WR via the draft. But yes they did tear down the WR position in recent years and one offseason was not going to fix that.

Week 9: Bills (-10.5) vs Redskins
billsfan89 replied to Cygnus99's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Skins are awful any sensible person should project the Bill's to beat them. -
The offense should be ground and pound with Allen managing the game and taking his shots here or there. But the team doesn't appear to stick with the run often enough. I don't think Daboll is doing a bad job but he is lacking in certain areas. It doesn't matter where you draft a player. Was Antonio Brown less good because he was a 6th round pick? John Brown is producing like a legit WR2, Beasley is an effective slot WR but the offense lacks a WR1 to help these complementary pieces come together.
-
That's why I think you make a good sensible trade to acquire a player that helps you win now. I would heavily consider trading for Poe out of Atlanta for a 5th or 4th round pick. However I am not trading a 1st rounder to chase this season either. Improve your team at a good price.
-
You can't mortgage the future to chase after a season in which you aren't a piece away. However if you can improve your chance of winning by acquiring a player for a mid round pick I don't see why you wouldn't consider it. The future is not always guaranteed.
-
This is a 9-11 win team that will be lucky to win a playoff game. But they have cap space and draft picks to fill out the roster. You can't expect a Super Bowl or even conference finals after a 6-10 season. Fans need to get a grip.

A lesson learned? It is not all about Defense

They were average against the Fins in my opinion. -

The defense had a bad game. Not sure if I am ready to downgrade them just yet. -

Unlike WR there could be a fix out on the trade market. Make the move put your defense in a position to improve -
Trade for Dontari Poe. Peko and Star are not getting it done as run defenders. The Falcons are trash and probably would be willing to dump Poe for a 4th or 5th. The Bill's can't afford to be soft against the run. Ideally the team would trade for a WR but the market might not be there.

They need a run stuffer. Oliver and Phillip's are penetrators, Star is average at best. There should be a big run stuffer on a losing team available to trade for. WR is another trade they should make but there might not be too much of a market. -
Trade for a big run stuffer, you should be able to find one. Poe from the Falcons would be a good target. Star is not getting it done.
-
Honestly I think the issue is finding a run stuffer along the D-line to help the run defense. I know Star is paid to do that but he has been lacking. I would call up the Falcons and see if Poe is available. I think WR is something they should be on the market for but that might not be there. All the Bills have to do is beat pillow soft opponents to get to 10 wins sadly.

Gameday Thread Eagles @Bills 2nd Half
billsfan89 replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I have defended Star as an overpaid role player but he just isn't up to snuff. You are stuck with him the rest of the way. But why not trade for Poe or another DT to take Peko's place. -

That is concerning but the team rarely makes those kinds of mistakes just an out of character game all around. -

The roster is good enough to win 10 games but today they failed to learn their lessons from the previous week. Got to make a trade for a run stuffing DT and possibly a WR if available.
