For once the drafts are falling into the positions the Bills need. In 2018 the Bills needed a QB it was a QB heavy draft (Unlike 2013 when they were in desperate need of a QB and it wasn't a good draft for one.) In 2019 the Bills needed a pass rusher and the draft featured a lot of good pass rushers. The 2020 draft is projected to be a WR heavy draft when the Bills need a WR. I loved the Ford pick and the time and while the early returns are mixed I would rather have a good guard in place around my young QB and wait a year to draft a top flight WR. Than to have taken DK early in round 2 instead of Ford. I will say that as DK was falling to the late 50's I did think that the Bills should have packaged the Singletary pick and one of their 4th rounders they had to go up and get him. But those picks ended up being Singletary and Knox who I think have some potential so I can't complain. But that was my thought the day of the draft. Why not go and get a deep threat for Josh after getting Ford to build a piece for the O-line going forward.

Bills must prepare to face Rosen AND Fitz
billsfan89 replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree that Rosen's 2018 situation was not much better or worse than Darnold's and Josh Allen's. But the Bills and Jets respectively rebuilt their offensive talent around both of them and had their QB's return for a second season. Rosen in my opinion looked like a rookie QB in Arizona up and down but certainly not someone who was worthy to give up on given the circumstances. Now granted they gave up on him for various reasons. They had an opportunity to draft a QB that their new coach liked better so these things happen. But where Rosen's misfortune happened is that he went to Miami where his supporting cast downgraded. In most QB's second year after being drafted the team begins to invest in supporting pieces to at least give a QB a chance to have success. But Rosen downgraded in offensive supporting cast from year one to two. I hope that he lands in a better situation where he can sit for a year or two and get his confidence back. Look at how the Saints resurrected Bridgewaters prospects as a pro-QB. I think Rosen is better off served in that kind of situation as opposed to just being thrown onto two bad teams. -
Bills must prepare to face Rosen AND Fitz
billsfan89 replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Forgot about Rudolph, he has played well when he was called this season although he got hurt. So I could see them wanting to stick with him. Maybe if he ***** the bed this season they look to go in another direction? I think the Chargers would then fit the bill for the team that could benefit from trading for Rosen. I can't see Rosen fetching more than a 5th rounder at this point and the Chargers with Rivers are likely trying to win now (so thus they aren't going to want to spend a high draft pick on a backup) but they could use an heir apparent if one were to come on the cheap. I don't think a team is going to trade for him as a starter but I think as a developmental project he is someone a team could take a chance on. Not sure who in the NFC would fit the bill as a good landing spot. Matty Ice is a bit older but will only be 35 next season they are committing to him for the next 4-5 years at least. New Orleans has Teddy B who is going to take over for Brees. Rodgers is interesting but he will be 36/37 next season so I don't think they are trying to build up an heir until another 2 or 3 years at the very least. I can't think of any other teams with veteran QB's that could want a developmental QB. But the Chargers seem like a good fit based on need and who their starter is. -
The AFC is a dumpster fire this season
billsfan89 replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The AFC is pretty trash as far as depth is concerned. The Patriots are at the top of the heap. I would put the Ravens, Chiefs, Texans and Bills as the only other legit contenders and as much as I love us being in the mix all of those teams have major flaws. There are some other decent teams like the Raiders and Colts who will compete for a wild card spot but the AFC is very mediocre this year. Even the Pats aren't as strong as they usually are given Brady's age and the injuries to their offense. -
Bills must prepare to face Rosen AND Fitz
billsfan89 replied to StHustle's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think Rosen will get traded again, hopefully to a team with a veteran QB where Rosen can sit for a season or two and get his confidence back and have the system mastered before being given a shot to start. I think the Chargers or Steelers would make sense. Both have vet QB's knocking on 40 and are solid or at least decent teams. I think a team would be willing to give up a 5th for him. Two years remaining on his rookie deal with an option kind of make him very tradable. I could also see the Titans taking a shot on him as neither one of their QB's inspires confidence and they will probably win 6-8 games this year thus putting them out of a good QB in the draft. I could also see the Pats trading for him but I doubt Miami would trade in the division unless the Pats gave up a haul of picks too good. -

I feel bad for Rosen, dude went from a bad situation to an even worse situation. I don't know if he is a bad or good QB because he has never played for an even decent team nor had a chance to have a team built around him. -
OJ Howard on the Trade Block?
billsfan89 replied to Phil The Thrill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I am not sure if this is a rumor or speculation but I think Howard would be an excellent pickup for a 5th and a 7th round pick or a backup throw in instead of a 7th. Howard has become invisible in Tampa and hasn't had that breakout season (2018 he looked to ascending into a top 5 TE but injury cut his season short.) I think as a reclamation project he fits what the Bills need which is a more dynamic receiving threat at the tight end position. I love Knox but he isn't ready to be a consistent receiving threat at the tight end position. I think Knox would be better off served by being in a backup/utility role. I think Sweeney is also more of a reserve player. I don't know if OJ Howard has any issues off the field. But assuming he doesn't (I haven't read anything negative on him) I don't see why he wouldn't fit the process and help Josh develop both short and long term. I wouldn't overpay for him as I think with a regime good at drafting you have to value draft picks but I would give up a mid-round pick plus something else for him, the dude is only 24 and has played well at times, he has 1 year plus a 5th year option on his rookie deal remaining after this season. I think Knox and Sweeney still develop with him on the roster too as I think there are plenty of snaps to get Knox several touches and Sweeney can stay as depth. I don't think Tampa is ready to give up on him but if they are I would put in a big on him. -
Daboll's Forward Handoff: Spreading throughout the league?
billsfan89 replied to MJS's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I remember the Rams and several other teams running that same shovel pass play a lot since 2017. I am sure there are examples of it earlier than that but I know the Rams in 2017 really used it a lot to great success. -
Make the trade for Stephon Diggs
billsfan89 replied to John from Riverside's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think it was ever anything more than a pipe-dream. The Vikings are all in on the season and they were healthily around .500 all season. Diggs is young and locked in on a fair deal. He wasn't going anywhere. -
2 trades to win this years super bowl...but at what cost

I am not trading for AJ Green until he plays a snap this season. -
Just how dominant is this Buffalo Bills defense?
billsfan89 replied to Walking Tall's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Top 3 defense in the league. I do worry about their ability to generate pressure against elite O-lines but I think they have the depth and sending talent to at least be capable against better O-lines. I think this defense will look to add one last big piece in the form of a prime time pass rusher off the edge next off-season unless Shaq really breaks out. But I think they either let Shaq walk or cut Murphy and resign Shaq and go after another elite edge rusher. -
Zac Taylor on A.J. Green: 'We are not trading that guy'
billsfan89 replied to HOUSE's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Green is well liked in the locker room and by all accounts a good dude. So he checks and fits that process box. However he is still injured and out for anywhere from another 3-6 more weeks if not longer. The trade deadline is 3 weeks away. I am not trading for a player who likely will not have played before I trade for him. As good as Green is even on the decline I am not so sure I am giving up even a 3rd round pick for a player that I have not seen play for the season. I would rather take a chance on Emmanuel Sanders or another veteran who might not be as talented as AJ Green but I know will be suited up to play right after I trade for him. -
Who wants the 'Skins head coaching job? Rex Ryan! Who else?
billsfan89 replied to notwoz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The league should really take over the Skins from Snyder at least for a few years. I don't think being bad alone qualifies you to say that a team should be taken over by the league but Snyder's off the field decisions in how he treats the fans and how he handles the teams business combined with the terrible to mediocre football outcomes have taken one of the league's premier franchises and made them a team their fans don't even support. I hope that for the Redskins sake they commit to a young up and coming coordinator and front office combo and give them 3 full seasons to gut the roster and rebuild properly. Rex is not the guy and there are so many good coordinators that could use the opportunity. -
I still like the Ford pick, at worst you kick him into the LG position next year and let Spain walk. Ideally you could have an O-line of : Dawkins-Ford-Mitch-Feliciano-Ty (and draft a RT again to push Ty.) I would have preferred the team package some picks with the pick that was used on Singletary to go up and get DK as he was falling into the late 50's instead of taking him around pick 40. I however would still rather have Cody who has shown to be a pretty capable guard.

Reasons to not feel so bad about Patrick Mahomes
billsfan89 replied to Rigotz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Andy Reid and the supporting offensive cast (which the Bills wouldn't have been able to provide until 2019) are a big reason for Mahomes being as dynamic and prolific as he has been. It is possible that Mahomes would just be that dynamic early on because he is that good but I think Buffalo was not the right place or right time for Mahomes. I think that if White and Edumonds end up anchoring the defense for the next 4-7 years and Allen is a top 10 QB then history will not look at missing on Mahomes as a blunder (Similar to how the Rockets taking Hakeem above Jordan is not looked at as a blunder.) I think the Bears will be the ones who look like idiots not taking Mahomes or Watson instead trading up a spot to take Mitch who is looking like a bust despite massive improvement in year two. It is all going to depend on Allan, White, and Edumonds and how their career and the Bills shake out. -
25th in points is not surprising and while I think the team will finish higher than that the game script for the Bills is going to deflate the Bills point totals. The Bills defense is going to put them in positions where they are running a 4 minute offense to grind out the clock late in games. So the Bills are going to try and run out the clock on teams and not trying to score late in a lot of games. I think they finish in the late teens or early 20's in terms of points. And while that is mediocre it isn't a bad thing in the context of having a great defense and a QB that is developing. With a top 2-3 defense, solid special teams unit you only need a lower mid-level offense to get to 10-11 wins.

I don't see what would be impressive about Daboll to the point where another team would want him as a head coach. Josh and the offense is still a work in progress and it isn't like the scheme is so unique and innovative either (It is a quality or at least decent offensive scheme but it isn't reinventing the wheel.) But then again I thought the same thing about Lynn and he got hired by the Chargers. So who knows, but I just think Daboll's head coaching aspirations will have to wait until after the 2020 season as I don't think the offense explodes in the second half of the season. But in 2020 adding a weapon or two to the skill position tree could have the offense and Josh position to be a top 10 unit.

How to beat the Patriots??? RUN
billsfan89 replied to Tatonka68's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The Pats defense has yet to play a really good offense (I consider our offense to be a mid-level type offense) so I think that "on pace to be" is a bit misleading. They play a brutal 6 game stretch where they play six really good teams and I think their defense will regress to simply being a normal great defense haha. But i think the Pats defense is inflated a lot by not playing against good competition. -
Any All-Pro Bills this year?
billsfan89 replied to Drunken Pygmy Goat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Tre White, Hyde, Poyer, Milano and Edumonds all have a shot at it. On offense I don't see any unless Mitch plays really well and there is an injury to a typical All-Pro. I don't see special teams having one either although Haush and Roberts have the ability but I don't see their circumstances lining up for them. But I do think that the defense will for sure have 2-3 or more All-Pros barring injuries. -
I still blame Josh mostly. I think Yeldon would have had a chance on it had he not given up on the route but Josh has to realize that that play is a completely unnecessary risk and just throw the ball away. When you have a lights out defense playing well you should be more risk averse. There is no shame in tossing that one away, why take a shot from an LB to take a low percentage shot that Yeldon might make a play on the ball? Watching that play live I was really thinking he should just throw the ball away by the point number 58 was bearing down on him. He had been doing it most of the game so I don't know why he suddenly was trying to hero ball it.

Report that Bills inquired about Eli Manning?
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I don't think this makes any sense. Eli is on a big cap hit. Yes the Bills have a lot of cap space but if the Bills trade for Eli that takes a hit on the space they can roll over in 2020 where they are going to want as much space as possible. I also don't think Eli represents much of an upgrade to Matt Barkley. If I had to pick one QB to win a game I pick Eli over Barkley but I am not giving up a draft pick and cap space to moderately upgrade the backup QB position. I think the Steelers make the most sense as they would be willing to take Eli on a rental. -
I think Mayfield is a capable QB playing poorly at the moment. In part due to bad O-line play and he just isn't executing that well at the moment. The Browns played a legit Niners team away, a tough Rams team, and a decent Titans team at home. The Titans loss is a big blemish on their resume but the other two losses they have are hard time to blame on them. They also beat a legit Ravens team and took care of business against a battered and brusied Jets team. I think they have issues currently integrating a lot of new parts going against a tough schedule. But the team in my opinion is talented on both sides of the ball and will finish in the realm of 8-9 wins when all is said and done. However they might be 3-6 going into that easy stretch to end their season which might be too big of a hole to get out of.
