Is Big Nickel “Need” overblown?
billsfan89 replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I feel like a "Big Nickel" would have to play the slot corner position in order to justify sinking a second round pick into the position. Because I don't see what a Big Nickel player could do that is that much better than Milano and Edumonds both guys who fly across the field. -
Is Big Nickel “Need” overblown?
billsfan89 replied to Dkollidas's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So who gets displaced in the Nickel? Milano or Edumonds? That would easily push Klein to the bench and given that they put in a decent chunk of change into him I think they probably want him to have some significant role no the defense. I get that, Milano and Edumonds are the starting LB's in the Nickel and both work well in coverage. So I don't see exactly what this need is? -
Harrison Phillips recovery update

Fully agree that's why I think expectations for him should be tempered. He should be worked in as a rotational player slowly. -

Sorry for all these questions but this seems to be a heavily specialized and nuanced position. But in my mind Edumonds and Milano are the starting LB's in the Nickel with Klein the third LB in the 4-3 package. So I don't see an open LB spot. I also think that Milano and Edumonds are both fast young LB's who cover well. I just don't see where the fit is on the Bills seeing as they have two good LB's who can cover. -

It is a national crisis and the man is the president, kind of hard for him to not be a consistent topic of conversation. -

T.Johnson is a solid Nickel when healthy, in fact I think he is highly underrated. -
Harrison Phillips recovery update

My only concern is that sometimes guys never come back from a big injury the same way or they take a year to fully come back. My expectations are that he might take a year to come back. -

Then it just seems like a coverage LB position. I don't get why it has to be so heavily specialized. -

Question about this position because if you are in Nickel does the "Big Nickel" take the place of a LB or the slot corner? -

I agree with that, them over drafting a QB led the Panthers to get the steal of the draft in Brown. -
Texans sign Laremy Tunsil to huge extension
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That is a bit crazy (although I am more so shocked at the guarantee not that much at the aav) but Larry had the Texans over a barrel. They trade a haul for him and he is a critical component to their O-line (It was a lot better this season) given that Larry cost them 2 firsts and a 2nd they weren't going to let him go anywhere. -
Harrison Phillips recovery update
billsfan89 replied to CorkScrewHill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I though Henry was going to have a breakout season last year. After he got hurt the team suffered that bad run defense stretch and I think the two were at least in part related. Phillips will hopefully be allowed to come back at his own pace as this team runs 5 deep at DT. I think he can log 30% of defensive snaps by the end of the season. -
Would you trade 2021 1st for 33 today plus(revised)
billsfan89 replied to jkx2's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No, unless it is a marginal trade up of a few spots that maybe costs a 5th round pick I want to see McBeane just let the draft come to them and add as much youth to the roster as possible. Yes the Bills don't have any glaring starting caliber needs. BUT they do have a lot of places where they need to get younger or deeper. CB, RB, Safety, LB, DE, and WR are all spots on the roster where you need depth or role players. I don't want to see this team burn through its future and sustainability just to chase this season. Not only do I think that's not a good philosophy to keep the window of winning open for 2021 and beyond BUT if this team wants to win in 2020 it needs to add some depth and role players. Long Story short this team is better served long term and short term by keeping as many draft picks as possible and drafting depth and role players who could turn into starters long term. -

It seems to me that they use Edumonds and Milano to cover RB's and TE's and it works. I think "Big Nickel" is a niche that can be filled by quality coverage LB's. Even in that niche I think the Bills have players that can fill it. -
Buffalo is getting a good player at 54
billsfan89 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
BPA is not literal, would you draft 5 RB's if they happened to be the highest player on your board in each round? No GM ever just drafts BPA. I think when teams say BPA they mean that they aren't going to reach for need. You aren't going to pass one of the top players on your board just because he might not fit an immediate need if the only other options at need positions are subpar values. I would be satisfied with a CB, DE, or WR at pick 54 and I wouldn't mind a RB if it is Dobbins or another insane value. But they can't take a DT or QB or some other position where there isn't a glaring short or long term need. -

billsfan89 replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
DT is probably the position this team needs the least. Oliver is a future stud and behind him Phillips is young, Jefferson from Seattle should be here the next two seasons and Butler is another player with basically an option for 2021 who is in his mid 20's. The only older player at DT is Star who should still have a year or two of production left. I don't want a RB at 54 unless the value is insane, I would prefer a CB or DE in round 2 and then a WR in round 3 and grab a RB in round 4 and then grab another defensive depth player in round 5. This team needs to fill out the edges of depth on the roster. There isn't a glaring starting need on the team. So I would prefer no trade up situations. Just let the draft come to you and try and get 3-4 good young prospects as opposed to putting your eggs in one basket. -

I don't see LB they signed Klein to play OLB in 7 front sets and they have Edumonds and Milano there in the nickel. I get that they might want a replacement for Milano if they feel his price for an extension is too high BUT I think that the front office is in win now mode and they would probably want a player who would have more of an impact in 2020 than a backup LB. I think the pick will be between a DE, RB, or CB. All three positions are needs and I think a good player at that position will fall to the Bills at pick 54. -
Justin Jefferson should be our WR target at 22
billsfan89 replied to DJB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Not a big fan of Jefferson or any of the other WR's taken at pick 22 or after. I would have probably preferred the team trade up to 16 to take a WR there. So given what was available trading for Diggs was probably the best option esp for a short term immediate impact. Grab a WR in round 3 to get someone behind Brown and Beasley and add some depth. Deep WR class no need to get one at pick 54. -
Mike Clay 2020 team projections: Bills
billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I would assume the schedule would be tougher as the 2019 schedule was really soft. But my main point is that the NFL is super volatile and often times things go very unpredictably that stating the difficulty of a schedule can be hard. I do remember a lot of people going into 2019 really were concerned about the schedule particularly the back half of the schedule. In the division I would say that the Pats got worse and the Jets and Fins got better. The rest of the schedule is just to hard to shake out. -

It's all relative to value but I would also like to point out that this is a deep WR class and RB's could be found in round 4. If a good value is there at DE or CB I would rather take that and then draft a WR in round 3. -

Follow the drafting patterns of the best teams in the league and you typically see that pattern of first round picks being spent along the lines and at QB. That's the proper way to build a team. -

Diggs is one of the top 10 WR's in the game and at worst just barely outside that range. That's not exactly an easy type of player to find and he helps the Bills tremendously. -

billsfan89 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Most good teams tend to spend their first round picks on O-line, QB, and D-line. QB play determine the outcome of 90% of NFL games and how you protect your QB and how you attack and pressure the opponents QB is usually what it comes down to. -
Camp body it seems like. Never hate an O-line signing.
