Lost in all the chaos of the last few losses is how ridiculously frustrating the defensive tackle depth has been this season. Despite having what appeared to be a surplus of servicable players, so much so that we were struggling to contemplate how to roster them all, yet we now find ourselves (once agan) relying of practice squad level talents. Another Phidaruan Mathis game? Big Phil? Just insane. Between the O gun suspension, mystery ed injury, Carter and Sanders IR, and recent DaQaun Jones injury, I think week 1 was the last time we have a full complement of rosterable players at the position. This is almost unbelievable considering the recent investments into the position. Just sign Zion to the roster already. He is by far the best option, but out of elevations.

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?

hows a late second sound then ? -
Hollywood movies probably don’t exist by the time Allen retires anyway 😆. A.I Josh might be a good actor.

Can you even imagine the meltdown if Obama...

The ones who will work for cheap are illegal. The ones at the home health care agencies are expensive. But, they're there for the hiring. -
Keyboards are dirt cheap. Or is it your brain that has a few keys stuck?

You also have to take into account where he's picking when he takes these guys. 30 this year, 33 last year (28 before the trade down), 25 in 2023 (27 before the trade up), 23 in 2022 (25 before the trade up), and 30 in 2021. We're *consistently* picking outside of the forecasted number of 1st Round Grades (regardless of Beane's yearly "we got the last guy on the board we had a 1st round grade on" rhetoric). Also, each time we traded out of our 1st, we've given teams Justin Jefferson and Patrick Mahomes. Things continue as they are and we'll finally be in the position to land a Difference Maker or at least be able to actually trade up for one. And we want to leap at giving it away? Last year, Davante Adams went for a 2nd at the Deadline. Olave has an extra year on his contract that Adams didn't. Offer them a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year plus Elijah Moore, Curtis Samuel (if they'd take him), hell, even throw them Keon Coleman if they want. Hold on to that 1st, if you can. That's what happens when you hire a good Coach and spend the past 3 years Drafting an All-Pro CB, a Franchise QB, and a STUD OT in 3 straight Drafts. They made the most out of their high Draft picks when they had them.

I was hoping for that after the 1st one year contract… yet here we are.

Does Keon have the same skill set? Maybe he needs couple years? I have no clue about Mould’s speed. He was my favorite player for years.
-
Fair point with the kick returns! I was thinking WR specific and initially drew a blank. I still can’t think of anything impressive Moulds showed from scrimmage those first two years, but it was a while ago obviously.

Josh Allen didn't work his ass off from unranked recruit to NFL superstar to be in a buddy cop movie lol

There is a democrat running in Maine with an actual Nazi tattoo that had to be covered. You were quite absent in that thread.

My take is similar to @SCBills. My guess is that years ago Beane and McD agreed the NFL was a passing league. And they're not wrong: about 2/3rds of the yards gained in the NFL come through the air. They also decided that it's impossible, under the salary cap, to be good at every position group and every facet of the game. So they logically focused on pass offense and pass offense. This philosophy dictated who Beane drafted (e.g. Josh) and who he signed to big FA contracts (e.g. Diggs, Von). Beane has a preference for rangy LBs who can cover, DEs who are sack artists, OL who are better at passpro than road-graders who can push a DL back, and so on. Until Cook opened some eyes and proved his worth, I think Beane would have been happy using cheap RBs on first contracts. This think-pass-first philosophy certainly dictated McD's defensive behavior as well. He runs the nickel more than anyone in the NFL. But on offense, he's a little torn. He likes the chunk plays a passing offense delivers, but he dislikes turnovers. So he's settled on balance, rather than committing primarily to the pass, to help keep defenses guessing and TOs low. But there are a number of problems cropping up. Some teams are complementing their offense with a power running attack that we're not equipped to stop. On offense, our OC is not a passing game whiz. To make matters worse, many of Beane's draft picks and FA acquisitions - on both O and D - haven't panned out which means we're not elite at the two areas we should be philosophically: Pass O and Pass D. Injuries and suspensions haven't helped either. Not only is the think-pass-first philosophy somewhat problematic, its execution has been flawed.
