Beans and Sean - Should we miss the SB again
mjt328 replied to Cubanmist 1's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is a very fair and complicated question to answer. In some ways, I do feel like Beane has provided a supporting roster good enough to win the Super Bowl. In other ways, I'm tired of him struggling to find high-impact players at key positions (D-Line in particular). At the same time, I feel like McDermott has done a good job with building the locker room/culture. But I also think his defensive scheme fairs poorly in the playoffs, and is becoming more outdated with each passing season. Every January for the past five years, I've asked the same questions... "What is holding us back, and what do we need to do to change it?" Why do we keep winning so many games in the regular season, but just can't get over the hump in the playoffs? Is it injuries? Bad luck? A mental block against the Chiefs? Is it purely a lack of talent? Lack of execution? Poor gameplan? I'll be honest. I'm not 100% sure of the answer. But I do know this. Josh Allen is not the problem. And he won't be playing at this level forever. Maybe it's McDermott. Maybe it's Beane. Maybe it's a combination of both. My point is... if we can't get over the hump THIS year... with literally everything falling into place for us, then we just need to take the chance and replace them both. The worst thing that can happen is we get back to the same place with a different group. -
Stadium Construction Discussion (No PSL/Seat selection posts)

I saw the warming pipes laid under that turf. I hope they remembered to put them under the fake turf sidelines too -
Yes, hindsight is very helpful that way. Nobody knew just what Jefferson would become, so it’s not really that easy.

Maybe we should be proactive and bring Rex Ryan back before the Dolphins get him? -
I agree but my concern is that the defensive coordinators of the better defenses have an answer for the methodical, run/short pass heavy offense and we're going to struggle against those teams going forward.
-
Let's not forget that Watson could return soon. LOL the Browns.
-
Perhaps I should have better qualified the worry I have as I’m not concerned about our offense; it’s the matchups we have on defense vs their offense.

All 22 Review: Bills vs Patriots

I don’t think Samuel is tradable due to that contract. -
Well, it doesn't sound like he was in favor of it. Just like he wasn't in favor of drafting Sanders. Haslem makes decisions on his own.

I'm not criticizing. My point was that a more aggressive offense attacking a stacked box should result in some big plays and 2 or 3 play TD drives. And from what I can tell McD wants to stretch offensive drives out, not shorten them. -

Thank you for this!!! I will add that imo there is virtually no such thing as equal power in alomost every phase of life, let alone employment, except perhaps in an ideal marriage. If McDermott and Beane completely disagree on what to do in round one when they are on the clock, what are we to think that these "equals" do? Toss a coin? My guess is that McDermott holds the deciding vote. Could I be wrong? Of course, but the evidence tell me I'm correct. I have had this discussion with a poster who I hold in the highest esteem. He is a football expert and it really isn't so easy to go against him. I don't know, maybe the next time we discuss this issue, he and I should toss a coin. -
I didn't read that as he wasn't consulted, more that it just happened quicker than he expected. Probably something like the Bengals needed a decision that day or they were moving on.

Some teams just keep finding new ways to entertain us! 🤣

I get it. And roc nation runs the whole thing. I don't have much faith in the integrity of that group, either.

Return of the Tre! (Tre White signs with the Bills)
TheBrownBear replied to FireChans's topic in The Stadium Wall
Hate to say it, but everyone is likely to get their wish soon. Given Tre's age, history and heavy usage it's only a matter of time before he breaks down again. yeah, what's the deal with Rapp? He was never great, but at least he used to fly around and hit aggressively. He flat out stinks now. -

big huge facts. everyones still all starry eyed that he "saved the bills" which he did... but he's weak. the rex ryan hire should have told us that. The franchise simply got LUCKY with Josh Allen falling to them at 7. NOTHING more... without 17, Sean and Brandon would be schelpping auto insurance. -
Wow. Stefanski wasn't consulted and said that the "Joe trade" took him by surprise. [Yakov Smirnoff voice] What a franchise [/Yakov Smirnoff voice]. https://www.si.com/nfl/browns-kevin-stefanski-shedeur-sanders-will-back-up-dillon-gabriel

Game strategy continues to elude McD
Goin Breakdown replied to WIDE LEFT's topic in The Stadium Wall
His worst game since Houston last year that just so happens to have Diggs playing on the other side as well. I really hope he can get past Diggs. Getting swept by the Pats is going to make for a long offseason. -
Well Colts just grabbed Pratt. I guess we have Spector though...

Game week thread - Bills at Falcons MNF
DrDawkinstein replied to BillsFan619's topic in The Stadium Wall
Those were great days in Atlanta. Not only could we get cheap tickets, we often got FREE tickets by going up to the ticket window at game time and saying "I was emailed a code for free tickets, I forget what it was but it was a player's name", and they'd just print us out free 300 level tickets. And for the record the Thrashers had a lot of die hard fans. Hockey was and still is big down here. But there are so many transplants, that games were often 50/50. For what it's worth, the Thrashers consistently averaged attendance around 14,000-15,000 in an arena that holds almost 17,000. The "new" Winnipeg Jets arena that they moved to holds a max of 15,000. Atlanta losing the Thrashers wasnt due to lack of fans. It was the ownership group that didnt know what to do with them. -
It would be pretty shocking, but they better figure it out quick. They have 2 wins against the Giants and the suddenly terrible Ravens. They have the Lions this week and if they fall to 2-4, with both the Chargers and Broncos in front of them, they are looking at the 6/7 seed. Meanwhile, the Colts and Jags are both 4-1 and the Pats* are hanging around too at 3-2 The AFC isnt a cakewalk anymore and right now the Chefs are having trouble closing games

The Upcoming Trade Deadline: 2025 Edition
Blank Stare replied to ryguy101's topic in The Stadium Wall
Not a trade, but go get me Stephon Gilmore to run at CB2 this season. Then sprinkle in Hairston when he’s ready. While old, Gilmore can play man and tackles. Speaking of tackling, go get me another LB, and I don’t care if it’s some mid guy in FA. Tackling is foundational and doesn’t require anything elite. Just a desire and want to. Wrap the F up. We’ve been so maddeningly poor at tackling this year. So frustrating. Hopefully, Shaq can fix it, but he’s basically just Carolina’s version of Milano. Hurt all the time. Like others have said, the need here with respect to a trade is receiver. Go get one of these guys disgruntled or rumored to be available. Olave, Shaheed, Addison, Moore, or AJ Brown. Enough with this patchwork unit that can’t separate. Josh deserves better and this is two years now of a terrible receiver room. Bunch of twos, threes, and fours, masquerading as ones, twos, and threes. It’s embarrassing with an MVP at QB. Doesn’t have to be this hard.
