Less athletic players who happen to be smart often make good coaches. They are used to getting the best out of themselves and know how to teach others to do the same.

One of the things I liked about Pettine's time (Rex disciple) was that he knew that he had something special in the Dareus, Kyle and Mario combo but on base sets would roll in a 5 tech (which is a lot easier to find than a 0 tech) to gum up run lanes and give those three one on ones. Plus Hughes rotating in for double digit sacks Man we had some amazing defensive talent that got wasted.

he’s always been a handful to manage. that said, if managing him for a few months - and you let him play - I do imagine he’d like it here and give the defense a little more spunk

Contract information I could find says his salary this season is 7.75 million with a workout bonus of a quarter million. If the Bills could get him for that, it would probably be worth it, but if he clears waivers he'll probably want a bigger deal. It sounds like he'd prefer to sign with a team that plays a more aggressive style of defense than the Bills though.

He's really damaged his reputation the last few years, but what about Russell Wilson? 10x pro bowl, 1x 2nd team all-pro, 1 SB ring. Every single eligible player with 10+ pro bowls is in the HOF.

Is Gardner-Johnson the problem or is he the canary in the mine? The Texans are 0-3 because they've sucked on offense, scoring only 4 TDs in 3 games.

I mean Hyde and Poyer weren't washed until they were and they both fell off a cliff fast. Just because he was a good safety a year ago doesn't mean he's still got it. If a team like the Eagles was like "nah we're good" I think that's enough for me to also think the same.

I'd try to trade him to an NFC East foe if I could. With Russell Wilson, what you see is what you get. He has unquestioned talent but he is enamored with throwing deep passes. Smart defensive coordinators are going to know it, and if they have quality defensive personnel, they will defend against it. He'll make some big plays, but he's always going to be a risk to throw interceptions. Jaxon Dart is a smart young QB. He's going to make some mistakes, but he has a ton of upside. In retrospect, I think it was a mistake for Daboll ever to start Wilson.

Can’t disagree with any of that. I’d like to get your thoughts on the team in 3 or 4 weeks just before the trade deadline. I feel like they need to bolster that secondary with another quality corner. I’d also like to see more of Hancock and Strong.
