Can everyone just take a freakin breath?
CodeMonkey replied to transplantbillsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall
Honestly, I just think reality is starting to set in a bit. The Bills four wins have come against teams with a combined record of 3-21. Since then, they lost 2 in prime time and frankly got pushed around by Atlanta. Maybe they will turn it around after the bye and finish out strong, or maybe with the exception of a few like Allen and Cook they collectively as a team, players and coaches, aren't quite good enough yet for Bills fans to be making their superbowl reservations. We will see, but "taking a breath" is good advice. -
Random talking head says something about the Bills

I wish some of our uber optimistic fans would wake up and realize how close this team is to 3-3 or 2-4. Both our offense and defense are in trouble right now. We we're only up 21-19 half way thru the 4th Q with New Orleans. It took a 15 pt miracle to beat Lamar. Vrabel set the template to pressure Josh and bracket our weak ass wrs. Beane has failed this team and fanbase. But most importantly he's failed Josh. And let's not forget who brought Beane to this organization.....🙌🙌🙌 -
You convinced me. Now the question for me becomes more about ingenuity. Joe Brady has a couple of weeks to make some changes. Clearly lack of separation at the WR position is one of the problems. Diggs reminded everyone of what a WR1 should look like and it's becoming more and more doubtful Keon Coleman will ever fit the Bill. My suggestion is to bring someone into the fold that can consult and assist Brady in adding much needed wrinkles in the Bills offensive play book. The Bills need some Fitzmagic IMO Pete

I think the bigger issue is this can’t be fixed in one or two off seasons. Whiffing on top draft picks and paying complimentary B players like their A’s sets franchises back for years. when you pay your qb 50+ million a year, you have to hit on your draft picks, because you can’t afford to go into free agency and overspend to make up for whiffing. this has been coming for years. You could see it in the playoffs the last few years. The bills have had the benefit of beating up on a terrible division. Any time they play a good to great qb and wr 1 they get exposed. Any time they play an elite rb they get exposed. This is nothing new.

I can't answer this question until after this season ends but I have this uneasy feeling that we are less talented then last year. Part of it is that players who I thought were on upward trajectories, like Knox, Rousseau, Bernard, Benford, Bishop, Coleman, Shakir, Williams, & Davis have leveled off or might be regressing. Only Kincaid seems to be clearly playing better. The other issue is that some players are regressing or hurt a lot: this would include Milano, Rapp, Epanesa, and BOTH Ty & Taron Johnson. Overall the O line, Allen & Cook are playing about as well as last season and the FG/XP kicking might be a bit more consistent but the punting has been worse. And the draft with 2 exceptions, Walker & Hawes, has not helped the team. Ditto for the FA signings whose contributions to date have been mediocre at best. Elam & Douglas were better at pass coverage then White has been so far. So yea, the 2025 Bills seem to have regressed from an overall talent perspective. And unless Allen can replicate last seasons extraordinary performance the rest of the way this Bills team may be in real trouble. Like you I'm hanging my hat on the fact that the Bills have been here before over the last few seasons and rebounded nicely. Correct and if it did work in the NFL I could make a great argument for why a lot of those lost years sucky Bills teams were Super Bowl caliber starting with that Bledso team that beat the Pats 31 - 0 in a season opener. -
we have one total trucking game every year, we have two losses in a row, almost always in late sep/oct every year, and our d always has drives/games/several games where it looks totally fragile and allows explosive plays underneath (runs and shorter/mid passes) and also either gets take aways or attacking stops. i suppose we have to just accept that this is the rhythm of this team. the team will be better this year if and only if the defensive reinforcements get us over the hump and the O just figures out what it is good at and does it well instead of this gadget trash. honestly, we have had the too cute on O stuff many times in the past where a couple of simple plays might have won us the game. it does get tiring, but this is nothing new.

Plausible X/#1 receiver trade candidates — are there any?
stlbills13 replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
There's nobody out there Use the assets to get a CB and a safety and maybe even a linebacker Survive on offense with a lot more James Cook and hopefully a healthier Kincaid and just less stupid play calls -

I keep seeing these posts about trading for 2 or 3 new pieces to the team. Do we all honestly think that Beane will even trade for one player, let alone several?? It wouldn't shock me to see the Bills roll with who they currently have. Do we even have any cap space to make a significant trade(s)??? -

If you’re looking for a #1 the best guy out there is AJ Brown. Now, to get him is gonna be pricey, and that’s even if Philly decides to play ball. It’s going to be a first and then some… A more realistic option would be Shaheed. Not sure if he’s a #1, but he’s fast and brings skills to our team that our current WRs are lacking. The problem here is that a lot of people have noticed his play of late, so you’re probably going to have to overpay if you want him. I could see Pats and KC looking to make deals as well, so then you have to leverage the cost to benefit there a bit. Ridley doesn’t inspire hope in my eyes at all. He should be getting fed like crazy with a rookie QB and isn’t producing Bengals have Burrow (sometimes) so they’re not selling. Same with Baltimore. Giants aren’t selling, Jets won’t sell to us, Miami has Waddle but he’s injured more than I’d like, Saints likely want to keep Olave given their investment in him, Vegas has empty cupboards, and most other teams have noticed abandoned hope yet. The options are limited and expensive, but something has to change. -
Most of them. This October swoon happens every year and every year people freak out and claim the sky is falling and every year the Bills rarely lose games coming out of the bye.
-
Using hindsight they both should have been fired after this, maybe we would have a SB trophy by now Me too, but Beane would be holding the door for McDermott on the way out of Buffalo

Same here. There are womens flag football coaches who would of done a better job in that same scenario.

There's really no good options. I thought of Cooks for a second, but the guy hasn't been an impact receiver in almost a half-decade now. Shaheed is probably the best obtainable option, but is he really any better production wise than guys like Palmer or Samuel were before we signed them? I suppose his speed could possibly open the field a bit, but we need an impact guy, not another #3 or low end #2. I think we just suffer through it and find a way to get Kincaid, Shakir and Cook the ball as much as possible. Never thought I'd say this, but we actually miss Mack Hollins as a receiver. That's how bad the receiver room is currently. -

I think a lot of this mess is fixable without mass firings and unloading a draft class of picks for talent. The Bills need some legitimate man defense corners and run a man defense. I don't think zone coverage fools your football-smart NFL quarterback anymore because they all see a ton of it in their college games, and the OCs at these colleges are not DIII level strategists. They know where the open pockets will be. It's easy to get the ball out and find the running lanes. Bills have to play man defense and get some personnel that can do it for long stretches of the game. White and Benford are getting penalized because they are literally hanging on for dear life out there keeping up with their assignments. Need quicker legs out there. I'd be trying out corners and trading for man corners. -

You never had an easier path to the 1 seed and you got tripped up by the patriots and falcons. The chiefs are 3-3 and the ravens are 1-5. In what way is this good? Let’s just take the baby gloves off and get real -
It's annoying this team seemingly goes on cruise control after a few weeks of the year where they have it easy and then have to get smacked back into reality that it isn't easy if you don't put the work in ahead of time. Happens every year and every year they course correct and get it humming the further into the season they get. Don't expect it to be any different this time. There are a lot of details that are not being attended to properly by this team mentally and it's showing up on the field. And I want to know if this is a known thing why McDermott keeps allowing it to happen and doesn't make them aware of this troubling trend.

as long as we dont promote him to the active roster correct? -
You are right on. We have put every receiver into a box as to what they do and every team knows this! We need more versatility. Having a receiver or two thats considered a gadget player (and cant stay healthy) does us no good Yeah, getting tired of new players needing to fit the "culture"! Maybe talent and athleticism count even more. The first way is definitely not working lately

How dare you be optimistic. The sky is falling!! In all seriousness, I agree with you OP. Its so early in the season, no need to panic. I guess I just remember the 17 awful years of sucking that ever since 2017 Ive had rose colored glasses on. The 1 seed would be nice, but KC came to our house last year and we still lost. All that matters is peaking in December, get to the playoffs and pray at the altar of the football gods. -
It feels like they come in with the same exact gameplan every week. We rarely see the Bills take advantage of a matchup or weakness. We don't ever see anything exotic to stifle an opponent's strength either. I'm not smart enough or knowledgeable enough to see the nuance in the gameplan week to week, but wasn't the "everybody eats" plan supposed to be very matchup specific? It doesn't look like they're tailoring the gameplan with that mentality. Somebody make it make sense.

Are you saying fans are prisoners of the moment and hyper reactive? That doesn't sound like this place this is a very measured place good sir! In all seriousness this team has issues but I'm also not writing off the season just yet. The Bills are hurting for a bye and they got one at the right time. Hopefully a lot of the "week to week" injuries are rested and ready to go for week 8. Then you also have the PED Twins coming back for a depleted defense with Mad Max and some of the other week to week guys coming back hopefully soon. I also think the secondary could use a shot in the arm at corner or safety but I think Cole's getting better and they can add a piece via trade. What concerns me is that this team needs a boundary WR. Keon's not gonna consistently win against good corners and Palmer's solid but doesn't command respect on the outside. This is an exact repeat of last season where the first 6 weeks the team was having trouble against teams playing single high jamming the box and slot and daring the Bills to beat them on the boundary 1 vs 1. It wasn't until they added Cooper that they got good on offense and took off. Adding a good WR and maybe a piece in the secondary will help a lot, the season isn't lost far from it. But there's real concerns out there.
