Gordio
http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/10/16/gonzalez-h...mself-to-blame/ Thanks for the read. This is the diasadvantages a team like Buffalo has competing against teams like NYs/Dallas/Philly/NE/Wash. I think after reading Shefter & the piece from Lombardi it is pretty safe to say that Gonzales was never willing to come to Buffalo. Oh yeah, one more thing, F*ck you Gonzo. The Big Cat
http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/10/16/gonzalez-h...mself-to-blame/ This belies the assertion here that it was Petersen that clamped on the deal.
CJPearl2
Great article. Schefter is the best is the business, and not just because he wrote this article. He consistently breaks all the big stories and has credible contacts with most NFL teams. Unlike Mort and the ESPN douchebags.

VOR
amazing how much praise you all gave gonzo and now that it turns out he wants nothing to do with buffalo i.e. the fans on this board What's your problem? I think it's perfectly acceptable to now hate the guys guts because he refused to play for the Bills, and to be happy that he'll rot in KC for the rest of the season, wondering what could have been. kota
Gonzo is dumb. This offense suits him. Short quick passes and Trent likes going to the Tight End.

Sure we threw flowers at him -he's a sure fire HOF with no records left to break for his position and we provided the best offer in an attempt to shore up a glaring weakness. That he didn't do his homework on our team, cost him the chance to play for a contender. Please explain.

Guest three3
i had a feeling he was too metro / glamourish for buffalo. he wants the attention. tv time, radio time, jersey sales. buffalo is not the place for your star to shine the brightest. green bay gets way more media even though that is also a small market. tony g is an aging TE with declining production and is overpaid. i didnt want him, i wanted TJ
SKOOBY
Personally, if TG decided that any contending team is not for him, he really narrowed his window of escape. The Bills are one of the top teams in the AFC right now and have the potential to go real far based on how Trent plays. If Trent plays awesome and the line uses it's size to block on the field and not at Mighty taco, we'll do great.
stevewin
He limited his opportunities and denied the Chiefs the chance to take the third-round pick, and other compensation, the Bills were offering Interesting - first I've heard that - wonder what else was on the table
ieatcrayonz
Interesting - first I've heard that - wonder what else was on the table John McCargo was on the table but the table broke. theesir
Interesting - first I've heard that - wonder what else was on the table Oh My God!! Think about how much it would have sucked if we got TG for a 3rd and John McCargo and then after the parade welcoming Gonzalez to town and all the new jersey buying, the trade got canceled because McCargo failed his physical!!! lets_go_bills
Great article. Coming from Schefter, it is usually true. So then it looks like there was a deal in place and Tony crapped all over it. We need to thrash the Chiefs when we go to Arrowhead in a couple weeks. BeastMode54
This just upsets me to no end. The FO was really trying to get this done. I think that move would have made us serious front-runners. With the uncapped year coming in the near future it will be VERY tough to land top free agents. We needed this BAD. That being said, the Chiefs GM was asking for a second, so maybe a deal wouldn't have gotten done afterall. Either way, I'm really pissed about it and can't seem to get over it. Lee Evans would have been freed from double teams. The offense would have had TG, Evans, Lynch, Roscoe, Reed, Hardy, and Edwards. Unbelievable. I hope we kick the living crap out them when we play them, and I hope his non-acquisition makes no difference (unfortunately, I think it would have been a HUGE deal). Sigh.......I need to get over this, and soon

2003Contenders
You know what? Maybe the Bills don't need a loser like this on their team. I mean, how many playoff games have the Chiefs won since Gonzo has been there? He wanted to play for the defending Super Bowl champs, a team that won the big one last year WITHOUT him. Evidently, he did not want to sign with a good, young team and represent the difference in getting them over the top.

It has nothing to do with Buffalo being a small market...The Bills in Tony's opinion were just not good enough to be a strong SB contender. The bottom line is in Tony Gonzalez's opinion he did not think the Bills were a Super Bowl bound team. He wanted to play for a team that had a chance to win the super bowl. In respect of that the only team that matched to his need was the Giants being the defending super bowl champion. How many people on this board think the Bills are a legitimate Super Bowl contender. I think the Bills will likely have a pretty good shot at the playoffs and may even win a playoff game, if they host it. But this team is not yet ready for the SB, they just have too many holes. Let us respect Tony's wishes. I would have loved to see him a Bills uniform, but if you take a hard gut check, you would have done the same thing... TheChimp
Gonzo. Good name for him. They call bad, gross porn "Gonzo". So saying he can !@#$ himself is ironically apropo. When the talk was all about giving the Chiefs Freddie Jackson for that big washed up goofball, I almost puked. A third rounder, though, that was intriguing. I hope we all breathe a sigh of relief that the turdburglar decided BEFORE he got here that he hated it, though, am I right? *cough*McGayhee*cough* I hope he likes where he's at. And I also hope the Bills take this snub as a way to motivate them to play better than they have so far, because they don't stand a chance in the Playoffs with such a poor pass rush and O-Line push. I hope this motivates them.

The Dean
I was passing by a TV earlier today and on NFL Live (I think), it was suggested that Gonzo wanted to go to Green Bay, because they play on natural grass (like KC). Not sure if they even mentioned the Giants, as I only had about 30 seconds or so, to watch. Just throwing that out there. If anyone saw that segment, maybe they can expand on it.
