Tee Higgins back in Protocol

There is mention of Tee Higgins nice catches after the first head bang, but he also dropped a few.

At least, not coming off a concussion. You see healthy players smack their head on the ground like that. Sometimes they are completely fine and the helmet does its job, and sometimes they are concussed. But a guy who suffered a concussion so recently, there is no way a smack like that does not concuss him.

 

And he should have been wearing a guardian cap. The league needs to mandate those for any player coming off of a concussion. Those players should wear them for the rest of the season.

 

The difficulty is the NFLPA needs to agree and they have fought for choice over mandate as the NFL has tried with things like OLine/DLine in preseason.

 

In this case - I really don’t get it - multiple times he held his head after plays - the NFL has a protocol, but it is also up to the players.  The questions asked aren’t hard and the players have talked about gaming them by answering slowly during offseason testing - so they look better during a game and can pass the testing.

 

The players need to be honest and help themselves and that should be driven by the NFLPA.

Maybe?  Read an article a month or so ago about how players know what to say when being tested to pass.  There's an independent doctor, if he says the right things, hard to argue the player was taken advantage of.  Seems the players don't want to sit out so game the system.

 

Maybe the hope for the player is to says the right things, passes keeps playing, next day he comes in and says his head hurts, gets a week off of practice and with a little luck he's ruled eligible to play next week, worse case he sits out next week. But in the heat of the game, they want to keep playing.

 

And yes worst case he's a vegetable in 20 years, but not sure the players worry much about that.  Does the league need a better system probably, but likely hard to figure out what that is without having half a team often ruled out of game.

Guaranteed there was conflict between player and doctors - these guys know how to cheat the tests and how to answer the questions.

Mike Brown will give you all his draft picks if you let him keep his money. He has his priorities, after all. 

 

It was obvious he did not belong out there and I said so before he even got up after the first hit. He was pointing to his head after it slammed on the turf. There really should be some kind of price to pay here.

It’s hard when players will lie to get back in to the game. I understand it’s a tough situation, but this was “immediately obvious to the most casual observer”, as one kid in my high school geometry class would say.

Right, how can I tell sitting in a bar and drinking beers that a guy is concussed, but the NFL and “independent neurologists” have no clue?  And the irony is that Tee Higgins’ head almost killed Damar Hamlin on the field.
