Will Josh Allen want to stick around for a rebuild?

Most of this season and especially after last night, people have been calling for the firing of Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane. 

 

It's pretty clear that the coaching and the systems aren't working anymore. And that the roster is in terrible shape with no easy fixes. Both have had a number of fireable offenses.

 

While I understand fans frustration and wanting a new regime, the question I keep coming back to is would Josh want to stick around for that?

 

He'll be 30 years old next season. We've already wasted much of his prime. A new Coach and/or a new GM will surely want to rebuild the roster, the staff, and the systems in place in their image.

 

This is likely to take time and the odds that they'll come in and get back to where they were immediately while rebuilding is unlikely. It will probably take a couple off seasons. And there's no guarantee whomever we bring in will actually improve things. 

 

My concern is that at Josh's age and with the clock ticking on his prime that he would rather ask for a Trade to a team that has a roster in place and a good coach and GM in place than waste time and roll the dice on a rebuild under unknowns. 

 

There's no easy answer as it's pretty clear that Sean isn't the answer and Brandon has mismanaged the cap and roster. So a lot of things are going to have to be done after this season. But I worry Josh won't want to stick around for a total blow up.

I hate Sean and Brandon even more after reading this thread. Josh was meant to be in Buffalo for his whole career. He has been exactly what the city and the franchise have been looking for close to 30 years. The fact that we even need to have this discussion is a sign of their malpractice. Through arrogance, or ineptitude , they have got us to this point.

Josh will probably stay - but the primary adjectives I'd use to describe him this year are "weary" and "frustrated."  Maybe I'd add "exasperated."

 

Beane has to step up and we have to go all in on receiving targets.  Allen needs to have fun again - that's when we win.  If he had legit #1 & #2 receivers, along with Kincaid & Cook, everything would look completely different.

We don't need to rebuild. We need to make some tweaks. Not tear it all down

We already see small signs of slowing and ability to break tackles. Just the reality of aging. He is still in the top of the QB group in terms of mobility, but each year that will slightly change. I have zero confidence in our current coaching staff to be able to adjust a system for an Allen 2.0 version that cannot do the same stuff he does today.

A defense has to defend twice as much space 

 

it opens up all the underneath 

 

cook and Allen get less abused

 

playing with a lead lets our defense key in one dimensionally 

 

it is the most complimentary football we could ever play. And speaks to my point that this isn’t a 10 year process. Picture this team with George Pickens for a 3rd this year.

As I understand it, he has been learning how to make fly puppets out of pistachio shells, and has approached a number of flea markets in hopes that he can pedal his wears

O line isn’t cutting it, can’t pass protect, you’ve seen it slipping all year, wideouts room is one of the weakest in the league, LB’s are small and always hurt, secondary has a couple of younger nice pieces but needs help and for  all the resources we threw at the d-line it’s the same old story.  This roster needs a lot of work, not to mention the OC isn’t really good and McDermott appears to have hit his ceiling.

I think each season we move a little bit more in the wrong direction.

There will be no “rebuild”

 

If they have to, they’ll do what Philly does or what the Saints did with Brees… push a ton of money into future years, knowing that once Allen retires, we absolutely suck for a year where we eat dead cap.

Only if…… let’s face it this isn’t a great supporting cast, it’s older smaller  & overpaid !  Beaner hasn’t made the greatest moves.
