Why fantasize about coaches when we don't even know who will be hot in the winter of 2027?  Seems like a fools errand to me.

Because you could well be wrong. All it would take is for Josh Allen to have a heart-to-heart with Uncle Terry…

Pegula will never make a change before that.  Bet the house.

All it would take is a phone call or two from Josh Allen, and I think he’s almost ready to pick up the phone and start dialing.

If MCD stays, the OC has to go and I sincerely hope someone othe than him picks the new OC.

I am curious to see how things change with offensive philosophy in our new stadium. I think McD believes that with the wind and elements that we currently play in, he wants and needs a strong running game and short yardage game, just due to the wind in OP in the winter.

Now that our new stadium will deflect the wind, maybe things change with his run heavy, conservative philosophy?? Just spit balling here. Trying to hype myself up for what's probably the inevitable with McD!

If the idea of trading for a HC crosses your mind, beat yourself about the head with a ball peen hammer.

We have a bottom 15 roster as it is, there is no need to compound that problem by losing 1st round picks.

Hire the hottest HC, then give him nothing to work with--great plan.

I agree with your point but Sean Payton was traded for a 1st and a 2nd for Payton and a 3rd. The Broncos had also just given up 2 1s, 2 2nds and a 5th (plus a few players) for Wilson

They have the best record in Football (even though they still dont have a QB IMO)

You are probably right. Even if they miss the playoffs this year, I think Terry will still give them next season to fix it.

Well, in Pegula's defense, the Rex hire was at the urging of Russ Brandon, who was more interested in marketing than building a quality team.

Russ Brandon's primary interest was neither marketing nor building a quality team, and it lead to him be shown the door by Kim......

I have little to no interest in a recycled guy. I don’t “need” to see someone that won a long time ago. Bill Cowher was never the answer for the 20 straight years of people screaming for him. I also don’t think Shanahan and McVay are realistic so cross them off. Those teams aren’t trading their elite coaches because we want them to. Curt Cignetti was my guy but don’t think that we can afford him at this point.

I think that Lane Kiffin is my guy now. He has just enough ego and edge. The Bills have lacked a swagger and killer mentality. This offense would be explosive. Lane would inject that confidence. Schwartz would be my goal at DC.

If Schoen gets fired he would be my GM target. He seems to be the scout. He’s drafted elite talent and the Bills roster was better when he was here. If not Schoen, I’d try to pry Nick Casserio away from the Texans. I don’t know what that looks like either but he’s excellent.

what is crazy is that we have josh freaking allen and we aren't that appealable to the coaching and gm audience like we should be... it makes a man wonder.

Josh and Terry are the only people in this organization with the power to make a change. Josh has reached the LeBron level. If he wants Beane or McDermott gone, they’re gone.

I think that we could be because of Josh. Outside of him it is a bad roster. If you plug league average QB play in (think Tua) this is like a 6-10 team. Someone will be excited though to have Josh for a while.

I have no ideas about GMs except for someone from Philly or KC. As for HC, I like Klint Kubiac. He's getting a lot out of not too much in Seattle. But Pegula will probably hire Gruden. Remember, the only NFL coach that Terry hired on his own was Rex.

Who hired McD?

Just now, Simon said:

Doug Whaley

For Rex, Terry was a brand new owner and relied on Russ and Doug, and while Whaley needed to be convinced he ultimately came around on Rex.

After that, Terry used an outside consulting firm and they are the ones who helped him identify McDermott. Whaley was barely involved as he was on the hot seat and on his way out as well.

So the only HC that Terry has hired himself has been McD.

I'll also point out that in Novemeber of 2016, no one in Bills Country was talking about Sean McDermott or likely even knew his name. So when you see folks present the "well give me the name of who is going to be better" argument, it doesnt really stand and it doesnt really matter. We all knew a change was needed, just like we all know a change is needed now. The pros will figure it out. Or not.

If the Browns fire him I'd prefer Kevin Stefanski with Jim Schwartz coming with hi as d-coordinator.  I thought Joe Douglas did a pretty good job building the Jets roster but just couldn't get the QB right.

To the 2nd part of your point, I think Robert Saleh got a screwed over by Jets.  He had a great defense and was saddled with QBs that he didn't want and were terrible.    Its still stuck in my head a couple years ago in a game against Jets where his confidence in Zach Wilson couldn't have been lower, but he daringly went for and converted a 4th down trying to manufacture a win.  I think he's a good coach who would do well in better circumstances.

Doug wanted him and fought hard for him to be hired.

It was the first and only time in his tenure as GM that Pegula gave him who he wanted as a HC.

And it certainly was the right choice at the time.

This is pointless to discuss this season because:

- Neither will be fired this offseason barring something crazy happening

- Any candidate you like this year will likely be coaching elsewhere or remain in their role for now, meaning they would likely not be options even a year from now.

i understand the sentiment, but this is not going to be the year we blow up the coaching staff or GM/scouts.

To answer the question in the title...

My top choices all got hired over the last couple of years. They were, in order:

1. Vrabel

2. Payton

3. Harbaugh

With them out, I dont have a top candidate I'm hot and heavy on. That said, I'd lean towards Klint Kubiak.

I also like @Kirby Jackson's idea of Lane Kiffin. Big Lane fan here and agree he would bring what we're missing with McD.

Whose the Buffalo Bills version of Kevyn Adams?

Any former players or low level assistants, interns, etc that Terry is having secret meetings with?
