Hairston changed the dynamic of this defense.

Bosa played out of his mind.

front 4 were great all day except….

4th and 17 and the defense gives up 29 yards….

Of course mahommes goes to lead a td drive and why wouldn’t a bills kicker miss a game tying/putting game out of reach fg?

This game had the feel of a comfortable Bills win, both lines were dominant, they went to the 4th with a 15 point lead. But McDermott is cementing his reputation as a coach that keeps both teams in the game. His latest iteration would be referred to in poker as a "chip mover" - trying hard to be aggressive but not very smart about it, beause it's not really his nature.

Mahomes is like a vampire.  If you don't put a stake in his heart, he's always going to come back.

He is a pain in the azs that way for sure,

Alls i know is without the timeout, Mahomes was flinging it up for grabs under duress with very little hope. But there was a timeout by McD. After the timeout, the Chiefs had figured out how to get their WR1 WFO beyond the line to gain, because their coaches are good. It was exactly 13-seconds reprised.

As for the 4th and 17, I said it in the game thread. That play was completely on Bernard. The Bills had a great call defensively and Kelce ran a seam route. I think it was Lewis on him but he was in Kelces hip pocket.

Bernard for whatever reason felt he needed help and vacated his area to go double Kelce while Rice slipped right in behind him wide open for the first down. If Bernard stays put and gets more depth than there has to be a hell of a catch and throw there

Can Bills fans be happy for a great win for a few days, or do people need to be terminally miserable?

It’s one thing that we couldn’t hold them on 4th and 17. I fully expected that. It’s the fact that McD wasted a timeout to draw up a play and the receiver was still WIDE open in the middle of the field.

I'm not going to obsess over a 4th and 17 conversion in a tough fought game that we won an hour after the victory. Now isn't the time for that.

That said, the problem is clear. It's the "exotic" scheme. Rather than keeping with the top options of teams like Rasheed Rice, we just let them go to the next guy. And too often there's confusion on who's assignment it is with other things going on or they just completely blow the assignment. Crossers are a nightmare for his Defense.

And how did the game end?

BTW...Bosa had a good game.... except that play. He was chipped and left unblocked...and promptly forgot how to run. He froze.if he bears down on the rush he plants Mahomes in the turf ...or hurries that throw.

I’ve noticed Bernard on more than a few occasions and not for good reasons. He always seems to be giving up big plays that he never had before. He was supposed to be an instinctual coverage LBer, but he’s had poor awareness in space this year.

4th and 17 doesn't matter now.  We don't have to talk about it or hear about it again.

The Bills won.

It kinda does matter because it is a remainder of two major flaws this team has.

1. Poor game management and timeout usage from the head coach.

2. The inability to get off the field on 3rd/4th and long.

Those are the types of plays that lose playoff games.

Bosa's controller froze there

Looks like he thought a screen was coming because he had easy access to Mahomes. Yeah, he should’ve kept running, would’ve disrupted the play at the very least.

Sometimes elite players make elite plays.  When Josh pulls some insane play out of thin air, it’s not because the other coach is an idiot.  It’s because Josh is a freak.  Mahomes is pretty good.

I do not freaking understand how somebody in the organization isn't crawling up his ass about his insistence on bailing teams out of their own chaos over and over and over again. I don't hate him but that single issue means that if I ever sit next to him on a plane, he's going to punch me for sure.
