Any interest in bringing Von back to take over for Hoecht?

The Bills DL kicked ass yesterday.  Mahomes got hit 15 times- the most in his career.  Pats has never been hit like that in his NFL career.  They did it with cage rushing.  They closed off escapes- Pat had no where to go.  They surrounded, and rushed inward, and constricted.

As opposed to Von, who runs behind Mahomes, and Mahomes escapes for 15 yard run where Von vacated.

First of all, Alexander is not a "quality starter" at this point if the Ravens cast him aside for nothing. And the Eagles not only overpaid for Phillips, but they gave the Fins an option to send the player out of the conference to a team that they only see once every 4 years. Their move to get Carter was really good because it allows them to move DeJean out of the slot, so they strengthened two spots with one move. That was the key move for them. The rest is just activity to say they are doing something.

What the Bills want, by every account, are players that other teams also want. You can't force another team to trade with you. Also, we have the misfortune of having two of the worst teams in the league in the division. The Dolphins and Jets will NEVER trade with us, even if we overpay. This board will melt down sometime over the next 24 hours when the Fins trade Waddle to Pittsburgh or Denver, but Miami could never trade him to us, even for two firsts.

A lot of quality excuses but that doesn’t help the cause. Please don’t talk about overpaying or competing with other teams for players. No one cares. A GM’s job is to fill positions of need period. Accepting excuses from inept management puts you into the category of being satisfied losing every year to a team you beat in the regular season four years straight.

I revised my response to your previous message to remove ad hominem attacks. And I will resist responding in kind to this post. We can talk about football without accusing other posters of being "bad fans."

A GM's job is also to manage the team's salary cap so they can be competitive unless they're electing to kill their cap in order to get under in the following years to make such improvements. To say Beane hasn't done his job is a slap in the face and to all the players he's re-signed or added this offseason. Bosa has been significantly better than Von Miller, our running game is as good since the days of OJ Simpson thanks in part to addition of Hawes. Josh Allen's playing well, MVP level? Debatable as to me Cook been the real MVP this season. The secondary has taken some lumps but might be on the upswing with Poyer and Hairston now starting. All this despite injuries to our 2 starting DTs and limited production from our best LBs in Bernard and Milano.

I was just thinking the same thing.  But I wonder if Solomon might be better suited to the role.

Right now you could have them both on the active roster, split time and see who fits better.

I think I said it earlier in the thread if you want another Hoecht then Kaden Elliss of the Falcons is your guy. He’s an impending free agent and think they would consider it for the right price

Cuz Solomon proved he could in the first six games? I think not. I wouldn't bring back Von back, I mentioned Alex Wright before who's second on the Browns in sacks and has similar size as Hoecht and is in the last year of his rookie deal so he won't be on the books next year when Hoecht is back unless we elected to re-sign him.

Would you call fans who accept a GM not making needed additions to a team with Josh Allen and James Cook good fans? Don’t take this good fan/ bad fan stuff personally. We need a receiver. We need a better corner than Tre. We need depth on the D-line.

On this point, I believe we have one.

Go get a LB that can play fast and physical and rush the passer. Play him the way we were playing 55. There’s no real reason to add a Dlineman. We have so many guys. And I just want the big bodies inside. Get a guy that can stand up at the line and run and make the QB uncomfortable. That’s what 55 was giving us. We don’t need a DT the dude was like a big LB

Truth! I saw them use Dorian in the same manner yesterday when Hoecht was getting a breather. Dorian at the line was bouncing around pre-snap and actually made a push on the O-line. I wonder if they will use Dorian in this role now that Hoecht is gone.

He’s in cap hell every year.Bosa’s  been great, no doubt, but if I told you  in the preseason our starting secondary in week 8 would include Poyer,Tre White, you’d say we’re done. Hairston looked ok in a limited role, but he’s a rookie. With Hoecht , Jones and Oliver out indefinitely a Dtackle is a must. Finally, we  should unlock our MVPs unlimited potential with a vertical receiver. We haven’t had a #1 receiver since Digg’s first couple of years. Concerning the players extended, only Cook has been impactful. Rousseau had a good game against KC, Shakir is a good slot and Benford is our best corner but none have made real statements this season. Milano, Miller, Jones, Samuel should either have been traded or cut long before they ate up cap space.

Only a rookie recovering from a serious injury. Let’s see him in a few more games.

I absolutely love Dorian Williams. His usage is maddening. You got guys that can play on the bench and wastes like Bernard, Tre white and Tarron Johnson glued to every mistake on the field

I would like it if we could get Waddle or Olave but it seems pretty unrealistic at this point.

Rashid Shaheed really should be a Bill by tomorrow. His contract is manageable and would provide a vertical outside element to our passing game. In addition to that, there is immediately a roster spot for him as he would take Coddringtons spot as punt returner. He was an all pro there in 2023, currently the Bill with the best punt return average is Keon with 6 yards per return which is 43rd in the NFL.

His receiving production through his first four years is similar to that of Jameson Williams who signed a 3 year $83 million dollar contract extension this year. So even if you give up a third rounder this year, if he walks in free agency you are likely to recoup a similar pick in 2027. An acquisition with upside and very limited downside.

Yes, Bernard was suspect yesterday. Seems out of place.

Dorian was lined up at the line, similar to Hoecht. But only for a few plays (that I saw/noticed). Did you see this too?

He looked strong on the rush!

They didn’t run much joker until yesterday.  And he looked ok in limited snaps.  Had at least one pressure in Q4.   Also might have the body type for it.  Like anything else in life, it depends on the

price.  But the may give Solomon a shot there.

He was in his seek and destroy role against them chiefs.  His job is to trigger on Mahomes.

Either we trade for someone, or we don't.  Who cares?  We roll out with the players we have and we leave it all out on the field.  Bills fans for life, no stress, no strife, enjoy every moment it's just a game so cheer it up and have some fun yall!!!! go bills!!!!!!!!!

Regarding Hoecht, other posters posters have suggested Landon Jackson, Solomon and Williams as potential replacements for his role.

That is somewhat encouraging, normally the in-house options are easily dismissed.
