RIP Nick. it doesn't really work that way. the waiting list for a kidney is very long. if he had a living related match, then likely would have gotten one, so you can't assume no one in his family stepped forward. since living strangers rarely donate a kidney to another stranger, most recipients rely on matched pre-deceased donors.
