Ray Stonada Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Hopeful but cautious... we had so many guys come through and not make an impact--Tim Settle, Poona Ford, etc, etc, Quote
JoshAllin Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think huge upgrades, we're going to finally see a real competent defense again, especially once Hairston comes back Quote

We have to hope our 1st rounder can take the reigns, once he sees the field. And maybe, Dorian Strong will come back this yr. To your original post, Hoecht & Oji --- its about improving on depth + bringing something to our pass rush. Vast improvement on depth, translates to better 1st/2nd down results and pass rush opportunities. Strong is the most overlooked loss of all the injuries, in my view. He might have quietly saved the day as CB2, allowing Hairston time to get his feet under him and keeping Tre mostly on the bench. He was playing well, especially for a rookie. If he returns, he could have more of an impact than Hairston, who has missed so much time. Dream scenario: We muddle through until late in the season when Strong returns, Hairston is making an impact, the PED twins are making a difference upfront, and the Olave-Allen combination is starting to click. 😀 1 Quote
Pete Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’m not sure Strong ever returns. Neck injuries are very serious. Micah retired because of a neck injury 38 minutes ago, nucci said: still same coaches and same scheme. Brady is killing the offense and must go imo. Babich gets a pass from me for now. 60% of DL snaps have been rookies or practice squad players. It’s tough to design D schemes with Tre and Rapp. Brady has zero ***** excuses 1 Quote
CSBill Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago No idea, but we hope and pray they add something. 1 Quote

Agreed, Douglas is an upgrade over Tre by far, and probably costs a 7th rounder. I’m still clamoring for Olave for a higher pick. He gets injured, but with our stable of WR’s may not need to play every down. 1 Quote

frostbitmic Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago If either of them can tackle they'll be a great addition. Quote
Mat68 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Two NFL quality players on defense added in late October will help. Curious how Hoecht is utilized. Is he simply in the DE rotation. Will they use his flexibility on early downs or just third down rush packages? Ogunjobi instantly is the 3rd or 4th DT. An upgrade over Phillips, Logje and what Sanders provided vs the run. Regardless of Jones status I think you have to elevate Walker to starter. No matter how you pair them Oliver, Walker, Ogunjobi and Jones is a formidable DT rotation. Do they make a massive impact no. Will the defense be better with them? Yes, I think it will be. Hairston starting to on board back will greatly help the back too when he is ready. Quote

JP51 Posted 46 minutes ago Posted 46 minutes ago (edited) I think the answer is "we're gonna find out" LOL... that said... In a world where Beane signs 72 middling DL every season and none of them pan out to the extent we hoped (palpable improvement on the DL) what makes us think these two are different... especially if they are now off whatever they were taking LOL... my guess, they dont move the needle... my hope, is ogunjobi doesnt eat into the playing time of Deone Walker he is literally the one bright revelation on this defense... I am fine if he eats into John McCargo's errr I mean TJ Sanders time when he comes back. Hoecht might be an interesting rotational piece, not sure you can rush the passer worse than our newly extended QB repellant Rousseau i cant see him overtaking him just because of the contract.... to spell him and Bosa, sure, probably gonna eat into Epinesa and Landon Jacksons time... lets hope he is a mild upgrade... If he is the second coming of Leonard Floyd or Jerry Hughes back in the day... Home run... but I am not betting on it. Edited 45 minutes ago by JP51 Quote
harryS Posted 31 minutes ago Posted 31 minutes ago You'd have to be a dope to think these guys will significantly change the team. They may raise Buffalo's EPO/play a little bit but their juice will run out soon. Quote
T master Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago Well Daquan being hurt recently in some ways is perfect timing for Oganjoby to come back, Daquan is 33 years old - 6' 4" 317 lbs in his career he has 19 sacks 3 FF . Oganjoby is 31 years old and is fresh while being on suspension so that might be a good thing, he is 6' 2" 305 lbs but in his career has 27.5 sacks & 3 FF so if he continues to be the same player that might keep Daquan from getting a active spot on the roster . Then when you add to that Walkers production of late and with Oganjoby coming back to the rotation if they can stay heathy and have Daquan as a reserve player I think it can only be a upgrade for the team going forward because the D needs it !! 1 other thing if Babich can integrate Hoetch and use him as this so called chess piece that they have been raving about since he got here and the reason why they signed him to a 3 year contract it should relieve some attention on Bosa and hopefully Groot will play more to his new contract and then that will also be a much needed shot in the defenses arm ...
