Might as well keep a thread going, even though it is early for the MVP race

after a quarter of the season basically done now, Allen is the front runner and took a bigger lead over everyone after yesterday based on the betting odds. I can update it each week as the year goes on. Assuming Allen stays in it.

Josh Allen -105

Just Herbert +600

Patrick Mahomes +850

Lamar Jackson +900

Jordan Love +1000

Matthew Stafford +1600

also as an aside,

James Cook is listed in 6th place for offensive player of the year at +1,600

Jackson deserves to fall for faking an injury to get out of the game.

1-3 doesn’t help.

Trevor Lawrence will make an appearance on this list at some point.  The Jags are not a mirage.  Lawrence looks like he might have turned a corner.  Stafford?  Shirley.  Love instead of Goff?  Not sure on that.  Non-QB vote getter?  Bijan Robinson.

The MVP race is wide open right now. If the Chiefs have flipped that switch, then Mahomes' numbers should continue to skyrocket. He could climb to the top fairly quick. They also get Rice back in 3 weeks. Josh will of course be in the convo.

No, he's still as meh and overpaid as ever. He has a 58.3% completion percentage right now.

Surprised Allen is front-running, he hasn't done anything particularly impressive stat-wise. Cook's been the engine of the offense so far (not that I'm complaining). I'm guessing that Week 1 comeback is still driving those odds.

Also where is Daniel Jones? I know he's Daniel Jones but he's been playing very well so far.

Lamar still better than Allen?

Did he injure his hammy?

Or did he quit on his team in the 3rd quarter while down 17.  3 weeks after losing a 15 point lead with 4 minutes left?

this is part of what sets the 2 apart.  Josh all day baby.  All heart

Hes the best player in the world.  Thats why you shouldn’t be surprised.

but i agree with why you are surprised.  Cook has been the engine this year.  Partially because the defense is so worried about Josh

He also gutted out a couple big wins including yesterday.  He is playing with more fire.  I by no means think he will win.  I just said he’ll hit the odds board.  Either they are a good team or the 49ers are bad.  Because watching that game yesterday it was 100% clear which team is better.

Allen is

2nd in QBR

4th in passer rating

6th in passing yards per game

4th in total yards per game by a QB

2nd in Total TD’s

6th completion percentage

5th net passing yards per play

Buffalo 2nd in ppg offense

Buffalo 2nd yards per game

Buffalo 1st in rushing yards per game

All of that along with Buffalo being 4-0 is why Allen is leading.

None of the other QB’s are even close to the top 5 or top 10 in this many categories, other than Lamar, but since Baltimore is 1-3 and he looked bad yesterday he has dropped down.

Yes...Herbert should be MVP while struggling every week to hit 20 points a game...

So tired of (*^*&%^$^#Harbaugh saying Herbert is the best QB.

Betting odds mean nothing. How about a thread with running totals for the frontrunners?

They don’t mean anything? lol… (you wanna bet)

They mean everything. These are the front runners.

Every person that has been the betting favorite at the end of the year or all but one the last 25 years has won the MVP. So I would say it matters more than anything else when trying to figure out who wins it.

Did you see him run out of bounds when they needed to run clock. He tends to get a little worse the higher the stakes. He torched Elam, but who doesn’t?

But why isn't the QB who's #1 in QBR, passer rating, TDs, or yards per game the leading MVP candidate.

As you know, stats matter.  But so does the eye test, context, hype, personality, and wins.  It's a complicated, subjective evaluation with many considerations, not all of which are fair.

With KC and Baltimore losing games, it makes sense for Allen to be leading. The MVP usually goes to the QB of the best team, and the Bills are the best team in the league right now, even if his numbers aren't eye popping. But it is really early.

Best QB at putting up a bunch of meaningless stats instead of scoring points which is what actually matters.
